The Nuggets need to Swish more Game Winning Shots

I want to see more J.R. at the end of games.

I think he is ready. I honestly think he is more disciplined than any of the Knicks that came over as far as shot selection - at least as compared to their skill level/difficulty ratio (Felton). I hope to see Ty Lawson, Aaron Afflalo, J.R., Gallo, Nene in a situation like tonight where they need to score a hoop. I like Lawson and Felton together in doses, as I know Karl will continue to dabble with - he is notorious for playing dual point guards.

I think J.R. is a good enough ball handler and passer that he qualifies as a 3rd point guard in a pinch. I also think he operates the offense closer to the free throw line than Felton or even Lawson. He is known for those long threes, but generally tries to get to the paint and has developed a underrated, and quite stellar, midrange jumper.

He's not ready to be that go to guy, and Karl might not trust him, but he and Afflalo and everyone else who steps up can fill the void as our go to scorer in those situations.

Poll
Assuming all of these players are having a decent game, who do you want taking the last shot? (and I didn't put Afflalo on here because I believe that is the consensus #1 choice)
Felton (don't underestimate the teardrop)

Ty (same reason - and faster with better outside shot)

Ill Will (because he is usually ill - though occasionally nil)

J.R. (see reasons above/insert personal opinion here)

Nene (Leads the league in FG% - too bad the man was a ghost - looking like playing hide and seek behind the 126 pound Fernandez in the pos. On a possible last posession!!!t)
3 votes
Gallo (that ALMOST went in)

K-Mart (Did you ever see that show Beast Wars as a kid? K-Mart is Beast Wars: sometimes in BEAST mode, sometimes transphorms into sissy robot mode)

You left one of the best options off of your poll

Afflalo is tough, clutch and definitely deserves mention.
I agree that JR deserves more playing time and although he didnt have a good second half, I think he should be on the court when we need a hoop at the end of games.
Karl is going to drive me crazy. Stop with the 2 point guard lineup and give those minutes to JR. Give some minutes to the Russian. Karl this team can be very good. Dont screw it up.

+1

Felton and Ty can’t coexist. They are good PGs but very bad off guards. They just stand there when they don’t have the ball.

Exactly

Let them do what they do well. Run the point. Good coaching means putting your players in the best possible situations to succeed for the good of the team. Just because he gets away with playing them together sometimes doesnt mean its a good strategy. Put a true shooting guard next to the point guard. Its not that difficult. What a joke.
Felton played way too many minutes last night and JR deserves way more.
Also, at least play the Russian on the nights Kmart cant play. Lets see what we got.
We are 2 deep at every position. Take advantage of it.

i think gallo needs to be the guy

it would be sweet to see a NO PG lineup to close out the game

JR
AAA
Gallo
Chandler/Kmart
Nene

That lineup could work

I like this lineup

But I know GK won’t play it with two North Carolina PGs on the roster

Solid idea

If we’re talking last possession though, definitely Chandler over K-Mart.

Doesn't have to be one guy

With Chauncey and Melo gone any number of guys can take last shot. My 1st choice is AAA, who has been clutch since UCLA. 1a is Lawson, Galli, and maybe JR. JR is a wingnut whose ironic enough to make a game winning shot.

Haha love it!

JR is a wingnut whose ironic enough to make a game winning shot.

Exactly

With Melo, everyone knew it was going to be him taking the last shot. It’d be great if we could have 3-4 guys out on the floor and really make it hard on opposing defenses.

J.R.

J.R. has the best handles on the team, and has good enough passing and court vision skills as well. Also probably the best at getting his own shot. It’s his Basketball IQ and decision making that probably needs work, but what else is new?

I think that when we had 1.6 seconds left before inbounding to AAA

I thought that that was a terribly drawn up play and AAA had to take a shot even the best shooters will only make 30% of the time, I think that J.R taking the last shot could work depending on the situation, but he was cold last night.

STIFF LIST (as of 4/26 by Andrew Feinstein)

1. METTA WORLD PEACE

Metta resorted back to Ron Ron last Sunday by clubbing James Hardenwith an "inadvertent celebratory elbow", landing him a 7-game suspension. Apparently, changing his name didn't prevent NBA commissioner David Stern from overlooking Metta's past behavior problems.

2. CHARLOTTE BOBCATS

The 'Cats are on the verge of securing the worst winning percentage in NBA history. Given that the guy who runs the team - Michael Jordan - had previously drafted Kwame Brown and Adam Morrison, should this really be a shock?

3. OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER
The team that was supposedly built to overcome the lockout-shortened season managed to lose 7 of its last 14 games, ceding the Western Conference's 1-seed to the Spurs in the process. Their reward might be a first round matchup with defending champion Dallas.

4. BILLY HUNTER AND DEREK FISHER
With report after report coming out about NBPA union head Hunter's shady, nepotistic dealings and questions arising about Fisher's own role in dealing with NBA owners behind Hunter's back during the lockout, this off-the-court scandal could prove to be more exciting than the playoffs themselves!

5. STEVE NASH AND THE PHOENIX SUNS
The Suns are on this list for squandering the last few great seasons from Nash. Nash is on this list for his stupidly stubborn loyalty to a franchise as awful as the Suns.
