My Challenge To Nugget Fans

"Some Stars align, and some just never will" Game

Star-divide

Hello Nugget fans, I am happy to say It is over.  Yes, the MeloDrama has finally come to a conclusion leaving the Nuggets with tough goodbyes to Denver's favorite child, Chauncey Billups and the guy that brought this franchise back to relevance over the past 7 years.

While it is hard to say goodbye to the great 7 year run Melo brought us, to our favorite home town guy in Chauncey, to Sheldon "Candice Parker" Williams and our old friend AC, we have to move on and say hello to our newest Nuggets.  While I'm sure a lot of "Denver Nugget fans" turned into New York Knick fans overnight, it is up to us die hard Nugget fans to keep basketball going in the Mile High City.

This brings great opportunities for several players to claime the "Mile High Man" status of the Denver Nuggets most notibly Ty Lawson, Nene and yes, JR Smith.  This brings me to the quote I mentioned earlier.  It is a quote that many basketball fans alike can lable on JR Smith at this point in his career.  I for one think JR Smith can find some sort of Star alignment if he's up for the challenge.

Is he up for the challenge?  That is the true question.  While his quotes of the few days say that he is, the question still remains and is a question that can only be answered throughout the rest of the season.  I ask that all you JR haters give the kid one last shot.  See how he adapts to playing without Melo and having the opportunity of being "The main guy" on a basketball team.  Everyone knows he has the potential to do it and with the right motivation and support I think he can.

Now I know some people will read this, shake their head at it and say "NastyNessy when are you gonna get off JR, He's a lost cause" my response is, give the kid a shot.  This is a new opportunity for a lot of players including the newcomers.  There is a chance for them to step up and play for the true lable of a franchise player and of course, that nice pay day.  Gallo, you were never going to have the opportunity to be the man in New York with Amare', so now make your case and show us Denver fans that you should be the main guy.  Same to you JR .  I for one will give my full support to whatever team Denver throws on the court, but I see tremendous upside in this team that I feel many others are truely looking past.  I challenege all of you stiffs to cheer these Denver Nuggets even harder than you did before, and you may be surpirsed with the outcome.

Let's go Denver!  We Got this =)

I thought I was a JR fan

Anyway, I remember the games against Phoenix at home and SA on the road when Melo didn’t play and JR carried us.
Now that there is no excuse for Melo will return from injury or whatever and you have to stop shooting, maybe JR WILL take the next step.
I think the fact that Melo won’t be coming back will boost JR’s confidence immensely. To know that the team is relying on him might make him or break him.
I am excited to find out what happens.
We all know the talent is there, but can this newfound responsibility change his game?

Gotta love the haterz. Keep that hate a comin'

one thing that hurt JR this season

is our inability to get out on the break where he thrives and really gets going. im hoping with ty starting and jr most likely getting more minutes, we’ll see him get out some.

im also wondering if karl will have a more structured offense now? that could help jr a lot.

im a big time jr fan. but i just dont see him being a superstar, even with his athletic ability and talent. id like to see him avg 16 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists now that he’ll be getting more minutes.

let's go nuggets! who u wit?

I agree

and I think GK will at least try to bring a more structured approach to not only his offensive game plan but defensive as well.

JR is never going to be a superstar, or even a star for that matter

that conversation needs to end. But what JR can be is a really solid basketball player. Once he gets that down, the sky is the limit. But he needs to take that step first and I think he has this year. Wtih Melo now gone, I’m really hoping he imrpoves all aspects of his game and occasionally puts up those star numbers in ALL catagories, not just scoring.

JR is Jamal Crawford

I think AAA is a much more important player than J.R but J.R is a Crawford kind of guy you need on your team if you have a lot of talented at every position, but he will never be an All-star.

Why Gallo?, because there is no Me in lo.

Major J.R. fan here

And after the Grizz game, who wouldn’t be. But seriously, the guy has heart, along with talent to spare. It’s his head and his poor choices that have always needed adjusting.

But this year hasn’t been the best for the Swishster. I’ve written this on DS more than once, but here goes one more time: Though J.R. has worked extremely hard to become more of the player Karl wants_; though he has responded to the criticism and worked to make changes; though he has become a much better defensive presence…

All of this has worked against his most effective contribution to the Nuggets: instant offense off the bench. I think he’s thinking too much. He’s trying too hard to make himself into something else. Overthinking. Gripped. Psyched out.

But not tonight against Memphis. Of course, the team needed him to step in for Melo tonight and score in bunches. Which is EXACTLY my point! LET J.R. BE J.R.!!!

Couldn't agree more

JR’s game is all i his head. When he’s calm, collected and confident he plays lights out. When he’s out trying too hard, doing too much, trying to impress the wrong people at wrong times doing the wrong things it leads to a downhill head-on crash with a tree in which in basketball terms thats a 1-12 night and your ass on the bench for the next 2 games. If only last nights JR could show up every night. I guess we shall see.

STIFF LIST (as of 4/26 by Andrew Feinstein)

1. METTA WORLD PEACE

Metta resorted back to Ron Ron last Sunday by clubbing James Hardenwith an "inadvertent celebratory elbow", landing him a 7-game suspension. Apparently, changing his name didn't prevent NBA commissioner David Stern from overlooking Metta's past behavior problems.

2. CHARLOTTE BOBCATS

The 'Cats are on the verge of securing the worst winning percentage in NBA history. Given that the guy who runs the team - Michael Jordan - had previously drafted Kwame Brown and Adam Morrison, should this really be a shock?

3. OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER
The team that was supposedly built to overcome the lockout-shortened season managed to lose 7 of its last 14 games, ceding the Western Conference's 1-seed to the Spurs in the process. Their reward might be a first round matchup with defending champion Dallas.

4. BILLY HUNTER AND DEREK FISHER
With report after report coming out about NBPA union head Hunter's shady, nepotistic dealings and questions arising about Fisher's own role in dealing with NBA owners behind Hunter's back during the lockout, this off-the-court scandal could prove to be more exciting than the playoffs themselves!

5. STEVE NASH AND THE PHOENIX SUNS
The Suns are on this list for squandering the last few great seasons from Nash. Nash is on this list for his stupidly stubborn loyalty to a franchise as awful as the Suns.
