NBA Rumors: Nene back to Denver, Chandler to NY
Another crazy day in the NBA rumor mill! On the same day baseball star Albert Pujols elects to leave the St. Louis Cardinals for the Anaheim Angles ... NBA news is starting to break that center Tyson Chandler is close to agreeing to a deal with the New York Knicks (4 years, $60M) and the Houston Rockets are still searching for a center as they believe Nene is heading back to Denver to re-sign with the Nuggets.
While following the crazy Tyson Chandler and Chris Paul rumors today, I started seeing rumors of a three way trade between the Houston Rockets, New Orleans Hornets, and Los Angeles Lakers. The reason the Rockets are involved? Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated tweeted this out just minutes ago:
@ChrisMannixSIChris MannixRockets, sources say, were hot after Nene. Rival execs believe he is headed back to Denver at a max or close to max deal.
Pretty surprising news, if you can call it news. Pretty exciting rumor at this point. We could find out as early as tomorrow if Nene is truly coming back as teams are allowed to start inking deals at 12:00 MTN Friday December, 9th.
More on Nene:
- Adrian Wojnarowski is reporting that Nene is still considering Denver, Indiana, Houston, Golden State, and New Jersey.
Some other tidbits floating around the interwebs:
- Woj also reporting teams that will offer restricted free agent DeAndre Jordan a contract tomorrow: Denver, Golden State, Houston, and New Orleans. Clips would have three days to match any offer.
- Nuggets talking to Knicks about a deal for Ronny Turiaf. This would be a salary cap dump move by the Knicks as the Nuggets are so far under the cap they could take back Turiaf's $4.3 million salary.
- Knicks close to terms with Tyson Chandler. How can the Knicks afford to bring Chandler aboard? Well, New York is over the cap, so reports are they'd have to do a sign-and-trade for Chandler and send Billups to the Dallas Mavericks or a third team. Billups is in the last year of his deal making $14.2 million. The Knicks could amnesty Billups, meaning they'd pay him $14.2M, but that wouldn't count against their cap and that would allow them to sign Chandler to a similar deal around $11-$14 million per season.
- If Chandler goes to NY then I believe it's a two team race to get Chris Paul. Between the Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks. The Lakers have been working on a three team deal that would land Pau Gasol in Houston and CP3 in L.A., and Luis Scola and Kevin Martin (K-Mart Lite) the Hornets + picks.
- There was a tweet about Billups winding up back in Denver, but with Ty Lawson and Andre Miller on the roster, that makes little sense. I also think there would be a high enough demand by a few teams in need of a veteran point guard that Billups would land elsewhere ... maybe quite cheap since the Knicks must pay him if they amnesty him (just wont count against their salary cap.)

That would be nuts.
But it would also make a ton of sense for both.
I love the rumors. It is fun.
Just to clear things up: It doesn't work that way.
Players waived via amnesty go through a waiver process where teams under the cap can bid on those players. So teams can bid on Richard Jefferson, who has three years left on his deal. If, say, the Pistons wanted him, and they bid $5 million, they are guaranteeing they’d pay $5 million per year for the remainder of his deal. The Spurs would pay the rest. But if they cut him afterwards, they eat the whole thing in one lump sum.
It’s a bit complicated, and it’s not the free agent free-for-all some people expected it to be.

Why wouldn't a team put in a claim?
They only have to pay whatever their bid is, and the original team plays the rest.

Owners of the NBA or MLB?
People complain about the NBA, but MLB is insane.
Mark Buerle signed for 4 years and 58 million. He is an average pitcher on the downside of his career.
Not to mention Pujols.
Make NBA money seem almost reasonable.
How about CJ Wilson getting 4 or 5 years at $77.5 million. It truly is insane. A guy making $25M can play next to a guy making $180,000. Funny stuff. Gah!

All true...
I hope Denver offers him a front office job once his career is over with.
On Dallas would he be a backup to J. Kidd
Now that Barea is gone?
I would really like to give him a shot at backup SG behind AAA, but I don’t know if he would like it since the Nuggets treated him like crap during that trade.

I think he's not happy about the idea a team like Minesota could get him
and he’d waste a year of his career
The Knicks looks like a shitshow too
And it seems Amare may be traded to get Paul, when one could contend Amare is better than Melo lol.
Gotta love the haterz. Keep that hate a comin'
I would think Chauncey might be excited about being the first player to play for every team in the league
I kid. I feel bad that he gets tossed around.
by Pusherman on Dec 8, 2011 1:33 PM MST up reply actions 1 recs
I don't think the Hornets would take Amar'e and his shitty knees
I bet the hornets would ask for Melo. Could you imagine melo + his 3 year extension running around New Orleans with Jarret jack, Trevor Ariza, Belinelli, and Okafor…. I’d be eternally laughing at him.
Amare's knees are why it would be him
assuming New York amnestied Billups, cause they burn up there Amare insurance. Which makes me doubt they will amnesty Billups.
I agree they'd rather have Melo, because of his knees
but what team is gonna take Amar’e’s bloated contract and injury issues.
Houston is delirious
I thought they had a smart GM. They seem so desperate its ridiculous. A frontcourt and Nene and Gasol without any real perimeter players (assuming KMart lite is traded) might not even make the playoffs. The only way Houston would get Nene is to sign him to the max to, so their cap would be tied up and they might not make the playoffs.
Is Morey the second coming of Isiah Thomas? It can’t be Morey, he is too smart for this, it must be the owner pressuring him. I have a message for Houston…Hey you guys won a championship already, you are far away from contending, so accept being like the Golden State Warriors and Sacramento Kings and wait for a draft pick.
Gotta love the haterz. Keep that hate a comin'
Morey is a genius.
Maybe this move isn’t the most perfect, but I see it as a move for the next couple of years, not this upcoming season. I mean, if their biggest problem is not having perimeter players, you could have a lot worse problems.
For one, there are plenty of perimeter plays they could get. Terrico White is a F/A now for example. They still have Kyle Lowry, Jonny Flynn, Courtney Lee, Terrence Williams, and Goran Dragic. Pair those guys up with Nene and Gasol, that’s not a bad team. Plus, they also have New York’s first round pick this year, which could be anywhere from the late lottery to early 20s. At that range players like Teague, Kabongo, Lamb, Marshall, Hairston, and possibly even Austin Rivers or Terrence Jones if they trade up a couple spots or they fall.
Let’s not overreact, Morey =/= Isiah.
"J.R. SMITH! WITH NO REGARD FOR COMMON SENSE!" - Future Kevin Harlan Quote

Plus Scola is better than Gasol at this point in their careers
I really don’t understand what Houston is doing.
Gotta love the haterz. Keep that hate a comin'
And Nene would have to play center
With another guy who plays better at the 4 spot. I think Nene ends up in Denver because he is a center everywhere else.
And if Karl/ Ujiri got to him the guy is loyal enough to stay in Denver. Still don’t know what Houston is smoking.
Gotta love the haterz. Keep that hate a comin'
Gasol >>>> Scola
He’s a much, much better defender and a more efficient offensive player.
Chauncey:
If you want to retire early, we’d love to have you back here in Park Hill.
Brutal career. Getting traded by your home town team twice and jerked around like crazy. It’s not right.
"No one likes a beggar slightly overdressed"
I feel bad for Billups
Goodness, how crazy that Billups gets tossed around like a $2 hooker. He is an excellent PG. But then again, so has Andre Miller. It seems solid to above solid PG’s can never find a home as teams are looking to always upgrade to a superstar.
But what is shocking to me is that the Knicks would even consider rolling into the season without a legit PG. You need guards to win in this league. Chandler does them no good. Plus, isn’t D’Antoni a huge 3 point shooter guy. Who do they have now!!
Can we say it together now – introducting JR Smith to the New York Knicks.
nah, this is the golden age of point guards. Lots of them all over the place
Getting a good big is most important. It tickles me that the knicks are trying to overpay for tyson chandler.
Caron Butler to the Clippers.
I got the chance to watch 2 Clippers home games live last season, and it’s no joke, SF is their weakest position by far. It was painful watching Gomes and Aminu bring down EJ and Blake.

It's just a temp move.
With Minnesota’s 1st Round pick in the hands of the Clippers, we could be seeing a core of EJ/Griffin/Harrison Barnes come next season.

That would be hilarious but make perfect sense.
"No one likes a beggar slightly overdressed"
Its in the same article as the Chandler deal
It appears whoever gets Chandler gets CP3. I think that trio of Melo, Chandler, and CP3 is better, but they still won’t get far and are way too injury prone.
Gotta love the haterz. Keep that hate a comin'
the problem is Amar'e and his 100million dallar contract and bad knees makes for bad trade bait
they may end up having to trade melo which would be hilarious
yep
They’re going to have to amnesty him, if they want to be in the running for CP3
They can't
Amnesty him if the amnesty Billups, which they would have to do to get Chandler. Maybe they just amnesty Amar’e, keep Billups and use him in a trade for Paul. That would be crazy, since Amar’e is was started the exodus to NY.
Best off-season EVER
They should do this every year: compress all the free agent activity to a narrow time frame.
So much more fun, amirite?

He must think Nene is a complementary player to his game or something. Denver does need some help on the wing with Will Chandler and JR Smith in China. I’d be OK with that.
But not at the expense of not signing AAA. Need a SG more than a SF.

It would be like the Knicks have taken over from the Pistons as our trading partner. What would be giving up in that deal? What do people think of Ronny’s game? Seems like there would be more to this story…

I wanted Turiaf on the Nuggets
3 years ago when we still had melo and had no rebounder. Now that the Nuggets have an abundance of bigs and are lacking in the wing category a deal for Turiaf makes no sense to me.

Well if we were to trade the following for Chris Paul
It wouldn’t be a bad haul for the Hornets…
Ty Lawson
Mozgov
Al Harrington
NY’s 2014 1st rounder
Denver’s 2013 1st rounder
And we’d be in good shape…
Chris Paul/Andre Miller
AAA/Hamilton
Gallo/Forbes
Nene/Faried/Bird
Chandler/Birdman/Koufos
MOZGOD Member #35
But I'm afraid it wouldn't be more than a 1-year rental of CP3.

I'm in the minority
But I don’t want anything to do with CP3. Or Tyson Chandler.
I like CP3
but if we have to give up a lot of cap space for Chandler and picks, the difference between him and Ty isn’t really worth it imo.

Guys, relax
I’ve heard that Knicks want us to absorb Turiaf’s contract. Not sure what Sac has to do with this though

We have almost as much cap space as Sac

I love how you guys are going nuts over Tyson Chandler to Denver via NY and Sac.
That is a trade that can’t even possibly happen. If Chandler is part of a sign-and-trade it’d be with the Dallas Mavericks, the team that owns his bird-rights.
Chandler is signing as a free agent with the Knicks, or is close to doing so.
In order for Chandler to sign in New York:
A) the Knicks have to get rid of Ronny Turiaf and Chauncey Billups. Knicks looking for teams to take on either guy.
B) Knicks have to trade Turiaf and amnesty Billups.

The team gets to acquire Pau Gasol while coming out about $13 million below the salary cap, enough to potentially sign Denver Nugget free agent Nene.
"No one likes a beggar slightly overdressed"
As I said Houston is delirious
If they can’t get Nene, they won’t because we will offer Nene more money and have a better backcourt.
They better trade Gasol quick, cuz they aren’t doing a good job of rebuilding right now.
Gotta love the haterz. Keep that hate a comin'
the want to improve without, rebuilding
They managed to improve the pf spot, but still lack a center, and they ditched their best player with kevin martin. The move was stupid imo
I might be alone in this thinking
But I think the Lakers are gonna be worse with that deal…Pau and Odom were such a crucial part of their success and I just don’t see those 3 egos being able to co-exist
If this is all they do
They will certainly be worse.
But the aren’t gonna stop there. No way. Something is going to happen where Bynum gets dealt and D12 ends up there. Not right away. But surely before the trade deadline.
when is that, by the way?
"No one likes a beggar slightly overdressed"
You aren't alone
They lost their biggest edge which was their size. If Nene re-signs we will now have the biggest frontcourt in the West
Gotta love the haterz. Keep that hate a comin'
But we can't forget AAA
Having a solid SG who can check Bryant and others and hit clutch 3s is essential to being competitive.
I’m serious. All Denver needs to do is bring in its two restricted free agents and the Nuggets are a contending team in the west. That simple. Ujiri best not mess this up.
"No one likes a beggar slightly overdressed"
AAA in Denver is pretty much a given.

But I keep hearing things that make me scared, like him Tweeting that Simmons article that puffed him up.
"No one likes a beggar slightly overdressed"
and even bigger and better if we get R. Turiaf
Masai and josh are pushing GK into a bigger lineup. I like it. Nuggets will be excellenct rebounders
Hmm so
we got the Heat with Bron Bosh and Wade, the Knicks with Amare, Melo and CHandler and now the Lakers with Paul, Kobe and soon to be D12.
The Knicks are the worst by far, LA is an injury away from not having a competative team and with Kobe getting old and CP3 injury prone that’s not good for them and then Miami is just Miami.
In short, if Denver can keep Nene and AAA as well as add a piece like Thadeus Young I think the Nuggets still have a legit shot at competing with all these teams. Miami slowly is getting deeper but older at the same time. Honestly when it comes down to it I think I would take the youth and depth that the Nuggets have over what LA and New York have. Should be interesting. Lets just hope AAA and Nene resign, Moz turns into a beast, Nene can average around 20 ppg as a PF, Gallo around 20 ppg, Ty and AAA around 15 each and then our rookies actually turn into something.

I bet you the first few weeks
of the season will be used to pad Bynum’s stats to make a push for Howard
But Bynum isn't playing early in the season because of well doing the Bynum in the playoffs
Gotta love the haterz. Keep that hate a comin'
So
I love how Miami and LA build around superstars who score and play D yet New York builds a team full of chuckers all around rebounding center. Interesting and funny at the same time. LA looks like the most complete team with a star PG, C and then a scorer with Bryant yet they are the most injury prone team. Miami is the most freakish team but lack a true PG and C which is arguably the two most demanding positions to succeed and then New York has the best front line in the NBA yet has no guards or true PG and no defense.
Each team has a definate flaw and in can fail in many ways. The only reason the Heat made the playoffs is because the East is extremely weak and the teams that can compete are old a la Boston. I thought I was extremely mad at these megateams forming but when really dissecting them they all have serious flaws. Denver as constructed and barring the resigning of AAA and Nene shows has the potential to address all the serious hole the megateams have. Key word is potential thus meaning Ty, Gallo, Nene, Moz etc all have to improve from what they have been doing. The key is the megateams have their flaws but really no way to address them. Im glad to say im more optimistic than I was a week ago. This is all based on if the Nuggets indeed keep Nene and AAA.

all the more reason
to love the nuggies. The heat have talent but lack depth. Same thing with New York, fragile front court with old punch and run. In LA- If you blow on Bynums knees it would be assured that he would out three games. Basketball is about depth and proper talent, something the Nuggets had and must keep.
The Knicks have no depth
And Chandler can’t operate without a decent PG so he will be ineffective (btw how did Chandler ascend to stardom anyway? Wasn’t he washed up in Charlotte?)

A couple points
First, I think it’s kind of funny CP3 is going to the Lakers rather than Knicks because Melo expected CP3 to end up in NY with him the whole time. Second, these deals make me proud of our front office for the Melo deal. In my opinion, we got a better deal for Melo than any of these other teams are getting for their big names.

But I also see the Hornets getting hamstrung for the next 2-3 years. Middle of the road team, MAYBE makes the playoffs, no cap space, no high lottery picks, nothing. The team would literally HAVE to tank to have any hope of rebuilding.
All while the Lakers, while a little worse off now, attract free agents around the country for years around CP3/Kobe, and eventually just CP3, in the biggest market in the league.

owners blocked it, because without cp3, the hornets lose market value
BUT, anyone who is thinking of buying this franchise should know Cp3 wants out anyway, so the value is reduced. It is moronic of the owners to think Cp3 there keeps the value up. They should just let the hornets operate normally, and hope the Gm rebuilds correctly. They don’t want to sell the franchise for less that they bailed the old owner out of, but they have no choice.Let the hornets rebuild into a new playoff team and hope the value returns.
From Woj on the uproar

Oh man that is funny
Apparently Pau hated the thought of going to Houston and who can blame him. The same thoughts should be going through Nene’s head. I don’t think Nene is the type to enjoy really disgusting summers and strippers/night clubs everywhere.
Gotta love the haterz. Keep that hate a comin'
I actually lived in Houston in the summer
And stuff in my fridge got bad after a day because it is so humid and gross there. It is probably like Kupchak’s armpit when he has to deal with Odom and Gasol.

If CP3 does end up in LA then we need to contact the Pacers about getting Dontay Jones back
I just tweeted the same thing but had to mention on here too. That year’s team was the best Thuggets team ever. Between DJ getting to CP3 in round round to Kmart hip checking Dirk in round two….classic

I'm loving this
first the Lakers almost make themselves worse, now don’t but in the process completely alienate Odom and Gasol and possibly Bynum, thus make themselves worse. If anyone thought the Lakers were just going through the motions last year they haven’t seen anything yet. 3/5’s of their starting lineup couldn’t care less about the “team” anymore. haha.
Are you talking about World Peace because he is in the starting lineup
While Odom is on the bench. Either way I think World Peace is distracted by himself a la Ochocinco these days.
Gotta love the haterz. Keep that hate a comin'
no, i was talking about odom

I don't feel bad for the Lakers organization
I hope Pau and Lamar don’t report to training camp just to show the Lakers how they think the Lakers are disposable to them.

If i'm Orlando
at this point i think i hold strong on an offer of Howard, Arenas and Turkoglu for Bynum, Odom and Gasol. Being that there is not threat of Paul being traded now.
Well I think LA is down to trade all 3
I think the Lakers would be better off than CP3 trade, but I wouldn’t be calling them the champs either. Of course if Kobe just play like Kobe and can have D12 rebound everything it could work out.
Ugh god damn it Stern, you may have made it much worse!!!
Gotta love the haterz. Keep that hate a comin'
I'm kind of see Orlando being like us last year
Give us everything we want, or we are dealing him to Jersey
Kobe can't all the games himself
And other teams can always play hack-a-howard.

Salaries for Faried and Hamilton
How much are we going to be paying Faried and Hamilton? Is it set for picks based on their pick number?
last year
the 22nd and 26th picks had 1,045,600 and 894,400 salaries. and it is based on draft position.
sorry, was off just a little bit
1,254,720 and 1,073,280 respectively.
Looks like Dan Gilbert had a big hand in nixing the deal
He does make a good point.
http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=ys-nba_dan_gilbert_email_lakers_hornets_trade_120811
I don’t like how the Lakers shed salary and didn’t include a draft pick. Now it makes it interesting with Pau and Odom returning.
Gotta love the haterz. Keep that hate a comin'
I really hope
all of this Chris Paul drama happened after Chandler “signed” with the Knicks, especically if Billups was Amnestied. Could be looking at next year with a broken Chandler and Amare with no amnesty to use on Amare and now i’m really, really, really liking that 2014 pick. Not to mention that they may have been able to pick up Paul in free agency, cause there is now way they are getting him in a trade if Stern wouldn’t let the Lakers do it.
Nothing is official
until noon Mountain Standard Time.
I think. 2 p.m. EST is what I heard.
"No one likes a beggar slightly overdressed"
Thanks, was wondering about that
and i guess its never too late to “fail” a team physical.
I suspect Chanlder will still sign with the Knicks
That organization is run by Dolan and it doesn’t matter who the GM is, his stink will take over and bring the Knicks down.
I am really loving that 2014 pick. Does anyone know it is lottery protected??
Gotta love the haterz. Keep that hate a comin'
Oh hell yea!!
I can already smell it, Gallo, Moz, Faried, and Hamilton will be a pseudo big four with Gallo, Faried, and Hamilton having all-star appearances (or maybe snubbed because they are in Denver) and Moz being voted MIP.
Then we end up getting a lottery pick in 2014 after the Knicks have a terrible 2013-2014 season when Amare is sitting the whole season from a second microfracture surgery and Tyson Chandler has foot surgery.
Melo becomes the new Antoine Walker and has gained 30 lbs (mostly fat) since the trade. There is no salary space to sign anyone and the Knicks are in luxury tax hell.
I can just see it now. We could be a dynasty after that pick if everything goes well.

Sources: Dwight Howard eyeing Nets
By Chris Broussard
ESPN The Magazine
The New Jersey Nets have been told by Dwight Howard’s representatives that they are his preferred destination and that the Orlando Magic superstar is preparing to ask the Magic to trade him to the Nets, according to sources close to the situation.
That same report states...
“The Nets are continuing to pursue free agent center Nene in case their plan to acquire Howard falls through.”
Which doesn't make a ton of sense
as the D-Howard trade make take some time as they allow other teams to
make offers as well…. which they’d have to do, otherwise we’re back to the
player forcing his choice.
If Dwight does end up on the Nets
I really would have wanted that CP3 deal to go through. I expect there to be backlashes from this attempted trade. The sooner D12 goes to the Nets, the better for everyone.
I actually think a D12, Dwill pairing would be scary and they would have enough cap space to sign legit help.
That is a team to look out for in the East. I think they can beat Miami, Boston, and whatever other crap is in the East. The Knicks won’t even make the playoffs after Amare and Chandler blow out their knees and back respectively, and they have no depth lol.
Gotta love the haterz. Keep that hate a comin'
Well except Orlando
But they have Disneyland and Tiger Woods so they don’t care.
Gotta love the haterz. Keep that hate a comin'
dam it, I wish the paul trade went through.
Lakers won’t attempt it again now that they can’t get Howard. FTW
Spend a couple hours in the studio
Drinking beers, laying down tracks….
Come back to find the Paul to the Lakers deal nixed. Can’t say I’m too thrilled. Really thought the trade was bad for the Lakers. And anything bad for the Lakers is good for the Nuggets, right?
I don’t know. If the last 12 hours proves anything, it’s that the NBA is every bit as dysfunctional as naysayers like I have been saying for the last 10 years.
It sucks. Basketball is such a great sport — I love the speed and athleticism — but the National Basketball Association is such a piss-poor professional league. Stern should resign.
I like to laugh, but the NBA is the laughingstock of pro sports right now.
Granted, that mostly because NASCAR and pro golf are on haitus.
"No one likes a beggar slightly overdressed"
So according to Dan Gilbert, the hornets can still send paul to the lakers
The lakers just have to take back more salary crap…Emeka Okafor, and give up some picks. Basically he’s hating on the lakers.
He did make a big deal about how they were getting a
great player AND saving like $20 ml in cap and luxury.
Glad the Lakers arent getting Dwight
Although I wish the Lakers were getting CP3 at this point. Such a weird day for the league.
they still might get paul if they give up more
the only bad thing is if they rework the deal to include a sign/trade of david west, so that the lakers take on more salary. It wouldn’t be a good thing if they got a solid pf, but then again that guy’s knees are also pretty bad. I guess we’ll see.
I think one sentence in Gilbert's letter makes it obvious why this happened
Most teams would miss out on that sweet $21m in luxury tax. It has nothing (directly) to do with competitive balance.
The frothing laker hater in me is not sure what to make of this. I feel like somehow we are still heading for Howard to LA. The league will not allow them to miss out on both D12 and CP3.
by Rainbow skyline on Dec 9, 2011 12:07 AM MST reply actions
I think D12 is going to the Nets
It makes too much sense not to happen and the league can’t intervene since they don’t own either team.
I think Pau and LO will play for the Lakers, but I think they will go through the motions for sure. I wish the trade went through but all 3 of their big men are butt hurt and Metta world peace has lost his crazy edge. Mike Brown has a lot of work to do.
Gotta love the haterz. Keep that hate a comin'
well, the league can't intervene,
but it can “intervene”. (See Pau Gasol trade)
by Rainbow skyline on Dec 9, 2011 12:18 AM MST up reply actions
Yeah I understand that
But if Howard really does want to go to Jersey which makes more sense since DWill is in his prime, then he will make it happen.
Gotta love the haterz. Keep that hate a comin'
what does Jersey have to deal?
They’re not trading Dwill (I don’t think), and they gave up all their real assets to get him. LA can now outbid the hell out of them, and pretty sure Howard isn’t nixing that trade.
by Rainbow skyline on Dec 9, 2011 12:30 AM MST up reply actions
Jersey offering Brook Lopez
Who may be a better prospect than Bynum as well as draft picks and taking back Turkoglu. I don’t think LA could take back Turkoglu, maybe they can from some trade exception.
Gotta love the haterz. Keep that hate a comin'
Danny Granger says
Due to the sabotaging of the LA/NO trade by david stern, and following in the footsteps of my athlete brethern Metta World Peace and Chad Ochocinco, I’m changing my last name to “Stern’s Bi#&h” #effectiveimmediately
Cut and paste from somewhere else, no attribution:
Chauncey Billups has left New York’s training camp without the Knicks’ permission and gone back to his hometown of Denver.
He was broken the news that he likely won’t be in New York this year, and with the amnesty rules written as they are he’ll have little say in where he lands. Needless to say, he’s pretty angry right now. His fantasy value is likely to fall, and possibly plummet, outside of New York.
"No one likes a beggar slightly overdressed"
Obviously from something like Rotowire
… and, Billups was in town earlier in the week. Welcome home, buddy.
"No one likes a beggar slightly overdressed"
I feel for him. He's making rounds around the league
He’s had one interesting career. I wonder where he’ll end up next.
My guess:
Paid $14 million not to play, coaching somewhere around town, but far from the NBA and the hometown franchise that traded him. Twice.
He’s too good of a person to have to deal with this insanity.
"No one likes a beggar slightly overdressed"
Ujiri better give him a basket of puppies.

Unless an elite team is able to claim him...
Bet he retires. If so, I hope we can pick him up for a coaching or front office position.
retires?
with 14.2 million on the line? at the very least he has play one more year just so he can stick it to the Knicks. and at the very those morons in New York were dumb enough to pick up his option.
Going to be hard to do that...
If he gets picked up by a bad team. Sure, if he clears waivers and can play for the Heat, he’d love nothing more then to do it.
Can’t see him playing if Minnesota or Charlotte pick him up.
thats a lot of dough
and we don’t know if he’s been amnestied yet, the proposed 3 team deal could have him going to Sacramento. Taking a quick look at there cap, just under 30 million, i think its completely possible they would buyout his contract to get to the salary cap floor.
You guys should be rooting for DH12 to Nets...
then you can have Nene for yourselves.
Also, I would predict that the CP3 trade would be back on.
This was all about the fear that Broussard started, by predicting DH12 would follow CP3 to LA.
Nene for max or close to max? Yikes
A baseball park is the one place where a man's wife doesn't mind his getting excited over somebody else's curves
I think the media is making such a big deal about the CP3
because now they don’t have the big story to develop in LA and they can’t build their dream team that they wanted of New York, LA, Chicago, and Miami. I could give a rats ass less about it because I know what its like to get your star traded away.
A baseball park is the one place where a man's wife doesn't mind his getting excited over somebody else's curves
yep, media loves the super-teams
I personally would like to see NBA play chicken with Paul and see if he really rides out his contract and signs with less money to a contender or gets max deal with a non-contender or NO. I for one and tired of guys forcing their way around.
Just read about NBA saying no to Paul to LA
Here is what happened. 20 some owners called Stern and said “no way.”
