My personal apologies to the two teams trying to land Carmelo Anthony
There's been a lot of friction lately regarding the Nuggets trade demands for Carmelo Anthony. I'm writing as a fan of the Denver Nuggets apologizing to other teams for our excessive demands.
I want to apologize to the New York Knicks. From all the sources (that are coming out of New York coicidentally) it's all has been but confirmed that Carmelo Anthony will ultimately be a Knick. All you have to do is sit back and wait. Mike D'antoni's system has certainly made you an exciting team to watch racking up all sorts of points without having to play defense! Carmelo would be a perfect fit! We do appreciate the offer of sending us Chandler, Fields, Curry, and an obscure 1st round pick. We also appreciate that those players you've offered already have spoken out against playing in Denver! Thank you for the deal!
Write respectfully of your SB Nation community and yourself.

I apologize to all the Denver Nuggets fans out there
For having this ruin the season and drag on way longer than it ever should have.
Know when to fold em'.

I got people nicknaming their kids after me.
I'll reserve the optimism for the 17-win seasons; now is the time for scrutiny.
Josh McRoberts you STIFF!!!
Why are we apologizing to other teams?
seriously, what is the thought process behind all of this apologizing crap.
Think if this was reverse they would be apologizing to us?
no, no it was pretty thick...some people are just oblivious
Great post BTW, totally agree!

It was on company property, with company property. So...double jeopardy, we're fine.
Of course it was sarcasm. Some fine examples of this are...
This
an impressive 9-24 record
and this
the “dominant” Center Brook Lopez.
and also this.
Mike D’antoni’s system has certainly made you an exciting team to watch racking up all sorts of points without having to play defense!
This is my favorite....
Blockquoted paragraph “We also appreciate that those players you’ve offered already have spoken out against playing in Denver! Thank you for the deal!”
Tebow! Tebow! Tebow!
I almost took u serious after reading the title
but I guess ur sarcasm is justified. I’m a Knicks fan and as a Knicks fan let me say I don’t like the way this thing has gone down and I hate the fact the Knicks were even mentioned in reports whether they’re true or not.
None of this changes the reality of the situation or the decisions that must be made on account of it but know that while every NBA front office lusts after Carmelo Anthony(not just the Knicks) there is a very real possibility that he may stay in Denver.
Money is a helluva thing and from what I hear the Nuggets are trying to talk him into the long term extension but Anthony’s current contract has an option. Should all else fail, with a lockout looming I think it could be just as prudent to offer a shorter 2-3 yr contract so he can keep his money and you guys would have time to retool the team.
I don’t know that he’d go for it but he’s looking at leaving alot of money on the table. I mean if you guys forbid to trade to NY and decided to stand firm and propose a trade against his will to NJ as the only other choice…I’m pretty sure he’d stay in Denver for a while longer.
You guys have reason to be upset but realize as much as NY would love Carmelo there is a strong contingent who prefer to have him play out his contract with Denver. As for myself, despite the salty tone of some of the comments I actually think you guys have a good team and a good enough coach to get thru this spectacle however it turns out in the end. You guys are respected and it’s a shame your fans have to go thru this media storm of bullshit.

Very well written and respectful. Thank you.
Many of us have differing opinions, and as of today (1/1/11), the Nuggets haven’t played one game with our complete roster. Our full lineup has real potential, and hopefully Melo can see this and choose to stay. If not, I wish him well.
I personally believe the front office has tons of power heading into the new CBA negotiations, and I’m interested to see how this all pans out.

I feel bad for the Nets, and I understand why they are mad. Gotta pay to play though, their position just keeps getting weaker and weaker and more desperate every day. That’s not really our fault

Bout fucking time someone said this
I can’t believe all the posters on this site talking bad about the FO. The god-damn worthless NJ Nets should have to give 5 picks, Favors, and whatever else the Nugs want for Meelo. When they said no Brooke Lopez it told me how inept they really are. NJ’s only chance at relevance is signing someone like Melo. Lopez isn’t going to cut the mustard.
Someone also needs to slap ESPN in the face for ragging on the Nugs FO all of the time. Why the fuck don’t they look at the situation objectively and realize that NJ should realistically give up all 15 of its guys to get Melo if that is what it takes? I am so proud of the Nugs FO so far for not caving into any of this bullshit!
NY Is Not Giving You More Than
Eddie Curry
Gallinari OR Fields
Randolph

$3m
for Melo.
Why would they?
They are winning (6th seed), have a star and are not desperate. It’s their 1st year as a real team after a massive overhaul by Walsh. I’d say they are doing pretty well and are rather happy.
They only have to beat out unextended offers for Melo.
What unextended offers are out there (none in the rumor mill) that would be better than that?
That’s not a bad return, by any means.
He’s not going to NJ.
The team sucks, would still not be better than a 1st round team and have little hope.
Why go to that situation?
-it’s pretty much too late for the playoffs
-he would play in the shadow of NY, Miami , Orlando, Boston, Chicago.
-NJ would be devoid of talent and assets and little room for improvement
-He could win, seriously compete, in Denver or NY
-It’s been rumored that he would not go to NJ
-Other have said he was luke-warm. I’m sure he’s frigid by now.
Put it this way:
Melo has not signed an extension with a team who:
a. he has been with his entire career having made the playoffs each year
b. has reached the WCF and knows this team is elite when healthy
c. has offered it to him since the summer
d. is a better team than NY for the foreseeable future
e. plays in the Old West (SAS, Dallas, LAL) versus the Big East (Miami, Chicago, Orlando, Boston). The East will be the tougher conference to win with the youth of the stars while Kobe, TD, Dirk and Manu are all well into their 30’s.
So why hasn’t he signed it?
Because he sees a better situation for himself
It as simple as that.
What other reason could there be?
That’s what I have yet to hear from any Denver fan.
What possible better situations are there?
Winning wise not many.
Denver is better and would probably still be a contender for years given their expirers, talent and picks with which they could still improve. They’ve proven they are a contender when healthy.
Money wise?
Denver can offer him the most guaranteed money, right now. NY could potentially give him near what he can get now in the old CBA but he’s taking a chance not signing the extension…. or not forcing Denver to trade him to NY. (which isn’t out of the question)
Someone on here suggested a possible handshake deal in place around the trade deadline, which I can see. If they both know it’s inevitable, why not?
But NY can make up the financial aspect very quickly and easily in the NY market, in all honesty, it could be possible, Melo could be sacrificing money by not singing with NY.
Location?
Clearly it’s NYC. No explanation needed and pretty much the deciding factor.
Otherwise, why wouldn’t he want to stay in Denver?!
Melo will be a NY Knick next year.
Meanwhile Denver has some options:
1. Try to ride out the season.
a. making trades to contend with Melo now
b. make moves thinking he will extend eventually
c. making moves based upon his exit
2.Trade him to NY
3. Trade him to a team un-extended
Unless you can find an extended offer that tops the one above, that is mutually agreeable trade for the other team of course, than option 2 is your best option UNLESS you think this team can and has a good shot and winning the title this season. (1a)
There is always the hope you can trade Melo to NY in the summer
BUT…. NY cannot trade a #1 until 2017 due to the protection on the pick to Houston and I’m not even sure they can trade a pick that far into the future.
ALSO… Denver would renounce a Trade Exception in favor of cap space.
Ultimately in the summer Denver would expect minimal return from NY to make a s&t possible, much like every sign and trade deal for a big time FA we have seen. This will be no different.
Absolutely
Why trade with those two losers? I doubt their draft picks or expirings even work! Once Melo sees how bad they are he’ll re-sign with the Nuggets for sure.
