Around SBN: NFL Owners Vote to Change Trade Deadline

Melo gives thumbs up to the Nets deal

http://www.thenbascoop.com/hotwater.htm

so Carmelo Anthony (according to this site) has given the green light on the Nets trade.

Nets receive:  Carmelo Anthony

Nuggets receive: Derrick Favors, Andrei Kirilenko & multiple 1st round draft picks

Jazz receive:Boris Diaw & other role players

Charlotte receive: Devin Harris

If you ask me this trade is ehh for me. Favors is not a proven NBA player yet, AK47 has no offence what so ever, but his D will be huge, plus with us having Al Harrington now we have a player that can replace melos' scoring.

New Lineup

PG Billups/Lawson/Carter

SG Affalo/Smith

SF Harrington/Kirilenko/Favors

PF Favors/Martin/Williams

C Nene/Andersen/Mbenga(did DJ sign or not?)

Al should play SF to replace melo.On paper this team is still a 50+ win team. So heres to another great season =)

 Update

according to Stefan Bondy, Denver and Utah are holding up the deal at this point. Other teams on board. Denver wants better deal.

he also said this

The Nuggets are waiting for two things here: 1) they will try one last time to convince Melo on the direction the franchise and 2) Chicago or another team steps in.

this better be a shit load of draft picks.

I want Twill or Damion

on a different article i read it said

both of the two draft picks that the Nets got from GSW… so just two

by the nuggets fan on Sep 24, 2010 7:06 PM MDT up reply actions

that is weak

we better at least get the Nets 2012 1st rounder in addition to the warriors pick. forget second round picks they are useless.

i’d like to see this happen at a minimum:

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=29oajgh
with us receiving 2 or 3 1st rounders (2011 Warriors Pick, 2012 Nets pick, maybe 2011 nets pick)

by skithebert on Sep 24, 2010 7:46 PM MDT up reply actions

REALLY???

So this year’s 3rd overall pick and 2 future #1s and a AK and “that is weak”???

How many other times has a team received 3 #1s + for a player. How much did they get for LBJ?

Wake up people – we’re forced into this and other than losing CA (which is going to happen whether we like it or not), we’re making out like bandits.

i was responding to his assumption

that is was the 2 picks the nets got from GS. Which means 1 first and 1 second rounder. In which case, yes that is weak.

I wouldn't be too surprised if Karl barely plays Favors at all for the first half of the year

The only rookie Karl ever liked was Ty, but Ty really had to work to earn that. I bet management and ownership forces him to play FAvors b/c they’d look retarded for trading Melo for a guy who sits on the bench.

by hvino on Sep 24, 2010 7:16 PM MDT reply actions

Agreed

He will probably sit on the bench, but being as he is the one replacing the superstar on our team, he should get minutes. I guess it all depends if this trade is true and did go through. He would have to prove himself in training camp though.

Maybe I do have the right.... wait, what's that stuff??? - Homer Simpson

Rebuilding and George Karl

Scary! I can see AC getting minutes that he shouldn’t have.
Is GK going to treat these new guys like he did JR?

Melo, be your own man and finish what you started in Denver

First of all, I have to say Melo is an idiot who is being pulled along by puppet masters that are leaching off his skills. I have lost a lot of respect for him as a person as I think about why in the world he would want to go to New Jersey when they will be lucky to make the playoffs with the team that will surround him. He has definately proven that he can’t be his own man, which means he is not a leader and won’t be able to take the nets or any other team to the promiseland without a whole lot of help. If he wants to go, ship him out soon, but we don’t need that stiff kirilenko. Would love to see IGGY somehow in a nuggets uniform.

by BigHarold on Sep 24, 2010 7:20 PM MDT reply actions

the only reason why i see melo

wanting to go to NJ is Lopez, more money and the big city. like you said melo is dumb, the Nuggets have the best team to offer him. he hasn’t even seen how Denver will do with this team. I really did/do think that a frontcourt of Melo, Al, Bird, Kmart, and Nene is a a good one. but whatever its Anthony’s loss. buh-bye Melo. thanks for the ride.

by the nuggets fan on Sep 24, 2010 7:29 PM MDT up reply actions

Love It!!

Favors and Nene should be an impressive duo inside. Throw AK47’s Defense, Harrington’s scoring, Billups leadership, and Ty and AAA’s youthful exuberance, and you have a young team, with lots of athleticism, with lots of picks, and cap room on the way. I Like It!

by ACEIII on Sep 24, 2010 7:54 PM MDT reply actions

Team that does best here

Is Charlotte. then Nets then Jazz then us. Bad trade!! but wasn’t the only reason why we needed more teams involved because Melo wouldn’t sign with nets? Well apparentley hes warmed up to them so we should just do the Favors,Murphy,Williams and picks trade. I thought Devin Harris would hold more value to the Nets though. Nuggets FO needs to make the plays here do things their way and not Nets/Jazz/Cats way

I honestly don’t see what Utah is getting out of this trade from a basketball standpoint. Diaw is a downgrade from Kirelinko, with a longer contract. I guess it’s just the luxury tax and salary savings this year motivating it from their end. Maybe they end up with a pick too.

by asdqqq on Sep 24, 2010 10:26 PM MDT up reply actions

how long is diaw's contract?

trade machine says its one year but i’ve read elsewhere its 2. if its one year then utah is simply cutting costs. if its 2 years they are cutting costs to get under the luxury tax, but are swallowing an extra year.

but anyone know why utah/charlotte are even involved in this trade? we could get the same amount of expiring dollars from the nets alone and they would get to keep harris. which means we could likely get an extra pick or james or t-will from them. why would we sacrifice that to get AK. This has to mean the nuggets expect him to contribute this year and its not just for the contract.

by skithebert on Sep 24, 2010 10:51 PM MDT up reply actions

I agree, if Melo will sign off on NJ, theres no point in bringing in other teams

Because NJ could still keep Harris, so it kind of benifints both sides. Who knows.

All I have to say about our lineup if this trade does go down is we have at least 2 guys at every position on our team that could be legit starters in this league. That I like.

STIFF LIST (as of 4/26 by Andrew Feinstein)

1. METTA WORLD PEACE

Metta resorted back to Ron Ron last Sunday by clubbing James Hardenwith an "inadvertent celebratory elbow", landing him a 7-game suspension. Apparently, changing his name didn't prevent NBA commissioner David Stern from overlooking Metta's past behavior problems.

2. CHARLOTTE BOBCATS

The 'Cats are on the verge of securing the worst winning percentage in NBA history. Given that the guy who runs the team - Michael Jordan - had previously drafted Kwame Brown and Adam Morrison, should this really be a shock?

3. OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER
The team that was supposedly built to overcome the lockout-shortened season managed to lose 7 of its last 14 games, ceding the Western Conference's 1-seed to the Spurs in the process. Their reward might be a first round matchup with defending champion Dallas.

4. BILLY HUNTER AND DEREK FISHER
With report after report coming out about NBPA union head Hunter's shady, nepotistic dealings and questions arising about Fisher's own role in dealing with NBA owners behind Hunter's back during the lockout, this off-the-court scandal could prove to be more exciting than the playoffs themselves!

5. STEVE NASH AND THE PHOENIX SUNS
The Suns are on this list for squandering the last few great seasons from Nash. Nash is on this list for his stupidly stubborn loyalty to a franchise as awful as the Suns.
