NBA Trade Machine

I love the espn trade machine.  There may already be a post for this, but let's throw some Nugs trades out there:

This one will increase our wins by 8

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=33tomaf

Plus Tommy Shepard (former Nuggets PR director) is the VP of basketball ops and may throw us a bone!  I would love to bring Tayshaun and Maxiell here.  Defensive toughness and rebounding.  Get JR out.  Kenyon, unfortunately will have to be the expiring contract causality.

Thoughts?

Chris Paul in Nuggets Blue

We’d have to take on Okafor’s terrible contract and give up Lawson, but I think we’d pull the trigger on something like this.

BTW, I don’t REALLY think anything’s going to happen, but that’s what the machine’s about dreamers dreaming. Like me dreaming about Joe Wolf returning to the end of the bench…

I've been say this for a while, but I'm getting the feeling we won't be hearing any CP3 talk until the deadline...

Once New Orleans realizes they won’t make the playoffs and if the Nuggets are afraid Melo won’t re-sign they both pull off that deal… but kind of risky to do that in the middle of the season, but the Nuggets have always been a team to deal in season opposed to in the offseason (idk why, I think it’s better to go thru camp)

Enough about Paul

He’s not coming here.

Chris Andersen could be in a porno with his 'stache. Too bad he still wouldn't know how to box out.
Honesty may be the best policy, but it's important to remember that apparently, by elimination, dishonesty is the second-best policy.

I would personally keep the untapped potential of Lawson

Instead of dealing with an injury prone Paul. Even for a guy who is smaller like CP3, he will never be the same player again after the knee surgery. I still think he is way better than Lawson, but as a Nuggets fan, I would prefer to see how Lawson pans out.
We need a marquee big man, not a PG.
If we try to get Paul we will most likely ruin a lot of the chemistry we generated the past 2 years.
Remember when we had AI, Melo, Camby, Martin, Nene, Kleiza, Smith, Steve Blake, Najera?? That team was stacked on paper, but lost in the first round two years in a row. It is not about the names, it is about the holes that need to be filled and the CHEMISTRY of the team at that time. When Karl left us in the middle of the season, we definitely lost our chemistry and it showed. That is why I am hoping we re-gain it again in training camp.
That is why I am still skeptical about Miami. That experiment could be a champion team, or just a playoff team that losses in the semis. They can still get by on talent alone in the East, but they need chemistry to win the big games.

marquee big man

Nugs trade Kmart and Renaldo Balkman ( or Jr Smith), 2011 1st, 2011 and 2012 2nd rounders
ATL trades Josh Smith and Marvin Williams.

Atl slashes payroll, its no secret that they cant put asses in seats. Nugs get a younger, better version of Kmart who is healthy!!! We also get williams who is a good defender.

Swing and a Miss

If you were Atlanta would you really trade TWO starters for One 1st round pick? That 1st round pick also likely is a late 1st round pick (pick #25 or greater).

I didn’t think you would… Remember

  1. Does both sides have the assets to make the deal work?
  2. Does the deal benefit Denver
  3. Does the deal benefit the other side?… You have to actually take your Nugs hat off and put the other teams hat on and gauge it objectively.

Yes, Atlanta may have to cut cost… but they have to still sell tickets.

Ha! more like third deck home run

Marvin williams is not a starter quality player, a sixth man at best. Josh smith is a great player, but makes 11.7 mil this year and there are two more years left on his contract. Marvin Williams is overpaid at 7.3 mil this year + 3 years after that. New CBA, Shitty team very close to the tax, low profits. Perfect situation for a salary dump. They will be at 70+ million next year when Al Horford and Jamal Crawford get paid.

Uh huh, um hmm, yeah right

You’re the GM of the Atlanta Hawks, and you’d seriously consider trading Williams & Smith for the value of a 1st round pick. while at the same time you’re responsibilities also include:
Improving the team
Motivating the public to actually want to buy tickets to watch your product, and
Actually want to remain employed

So those two players are so bad, then why heavens why would the Nugs want them?

Oh, that’s right Atlanta’s a shitty team… a shitty team who had an identical record as the Nuggets but I’m sure why there’s an excuse why 53 wins for the Hawks is shitty but 53 wins for the Nuggets means they’re just this close to winning a title.

Don't put words in my mouth, dammit.

I NEVER said that josh smith or marvin williams are bad players. You neglected to mention the 2nd rounders, or that renaldo balkman provides 95% of what marvin williams at 1/3 the cost, or that Kmart provides 90% of what Josh smith does when healthy. It doesnt take much to win 53 games in the east, you know that. The bogut-less Bucks nearly knocked the hawks out in the first round, and not to insult the bucks, but their best player was a rookie during the playoffs. And their starting center, Kurt Thomas.

nothing but a horrible, horrible trade

we’d give up a sg with firepower and athleticsm, plus loose the cornerstone of our defense for a washed-up prince, an totally undersized power-forward and a decent at best young sf.

Yeah, I'm sure the Pistons appreciate you sending them JR & Arenas to keep Ken Gordon company

OK Kids, here's you're chance to trash my trade proposal

I posted this on a different fanpost; and to be fair, I don’t think I’d want to do this move but it sliced through all the unrealistic trade posting for CP3:

Separating the wheat from the chaff

In theory the Nuggets truly could bring CP3 to Denver but a number of changes need to occur:

•Stan needs to be willing to spend hard into the luxury tax for the next 4 years
•Stan needs to do a complete 180 degree turn on his dedication towards chasing a title
•Melo needs to be convinced the owner & FO is committed to winning a title rather than cutting costs
•CP3 needs to be convinced the Nugs are committed… I guarantee when CP3 looks at the Nugs owner & FO today he sees the NOH owner & FO and doesn’t want to go from one situation to a near identical one (one can’t spend, the other won’t spend)
*CP3 would need to push NOH to trade him to Denver. Despite what NOH FO’s may imply CP3 really does have the power to leverage who the trade partner is.
•No posters the NOH isn’t going to hand over CP3 to the Nugs for a bunch of "stuff" that Nugs don’t want. To get value you have to spend value; it will cost the Nugs.
•The Nugs have to be wiiling to take back both Okafor & Posey.
•And no, NOH will not take back Billups; the team will be in full strip down mode they won’t want an over 34yr old player because that would help Denver.
What it would take:
The combined contracts for CP3/Okafor/Posey = $32.9m; based on the 125% +/- criteria the Nugs would need to come up with $27m.

The Nugs would need to offer in return:
KMart, Nene, Lawson = $29.4m and either two-1st round picks or one-1st round pick & AAA.
The Nugs may also need to be willing to help invest in contract buyout of KMart if NOH insists. If Nugs are willing to pay half, maybe convince NOH to take Balkman… that would be fair.
Reality Check: No NOH would not take JR, let’s remember NOH was the 1st team to run him out of town… sorry I think Nugs are stuck with him 1more year.

2010 Nugs roster:
Starters: Melo/Harrington/Okafor/Billups/CP3
Top Reserves: Posey/Williams/Bird/JR/Carter(mostly Billups as backup PG)

Would I do the deal: I’m not sure, the roster is still quite strong (possibly stronger) and Melo really would love playing with CP3. But strategy-wise I’m not sure CP3 playing style (controlling the ball) best fits Melo’s style

With the KMart buyout the Nugs 2010 cap number would be around $90m. Without it the 2010 cap number would be around $84m, a little more than their current projected cap number. The 2011 would still likely to be in the $80’s; 2012 likely still mid-upper $70’s to 80’s

I’m torn on the move myself; I don’t think I’d do this deal Other than Stan not wanting to spend money I don’t regard this deal as mortgaging the future. You have a young in-the-prime PG and at most you’ve given up 2 additional 1st’s (though I hate doing that).

It’s more because in the NBA I’m not sure CP3 & Melo are compatible team mates on the court. CP3’s style takes away from Melo’s… Andre Miller, Billups & Deron Williams’ PG styles fit very well with Melo because those PG don’t have to "own" the ball til the last moment. This allows the rest of Melo’s game to come out.

STIFF LIST (as of 4/26 by Andrew Feinstein)

1. METTA WORLD PEACE

Metta resorted back to Ron Ron last Sunday by clubbing James Hardenwith an "inadvertent celebratory elbow", landing him a 7-game suspension. Apparently, changing his name didn't prevent NBA commissioner David Stern from overlooking Metta's past behavior problems.

2. CHARLOTTE BOBCATS

The 'Cats are on the verge of securing the worst winning percentage in NBA history. Given that the guy who runs the team - Michael Jordan - had previously drafted Kwame Brown and Adam Morrison, should this really be a shock?

3. OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER
The team that was supposedly built to overcome the lockout-shortened season managed to lose 7 of its last 14 games, ceding the Western Conference's 1-seed to the Spurs in the process. Their reward might be a first round matchup with defending champion Dallas.

4. BILLY HUNTER AND DEREK FISHER
With report after report coming out about NBPA union head Hunter's shady, nepotistic dealings and questions arising about Fisher's own role in dealing with NBA owners behind Hunter's back during the lockout, this off-the-court scandal could prove to be more exciting than the playoffs themselves!

5. STEVE NASH AND THE PHOENIX SUNS
The Suns are on this list for squandering the last few great seasons from Nash. Nash is on this list for his stupidly stubborn loyalty to a franchise as awful as the Suns.
