Kroenke buys the Rams and Ujiri looks to be our next GM... (Golden Nuggets)
Nuggets owner Stanley Kroenke can now add the St. Louis Rams to his sports empire. And all signs are pointing to Masai Ujiri becoming the next Nuggets general manager...

Could someon provide some information on Ujiri?
What’s his back story?
It’s looking very clear that all the “deal making” will be done by Boy Kroenke and Bearup.
Also….I completely agree on Bucher. This is completely irresponsible reporting AND from what I’ve been told Bucher is as good as dead to the Nuggets organization….good luck getting any information leaked to him.

I second this emotion
I don’t want some guy who’s going to usher in an era of Euro’s here like there has been in Toronto… frankly, just don’t like that idea.
Yes
all Europeans stick together because it is such a small and non diverse part of the world

Thats not what he was saying
Look at Toronto’s roster right now. First of all, look at how terrible it is. They really might break the record this year that the Nets luckily escaped from last year. But second, look at their starting 5. Calderon, Kleiza, Barbosa and Barniani are 4 of their likely starting 5 and none of them should be starting on an NBA team except for Barniani, and what a surprise, their all foreign. Don’t get me wrong I like an eclectic group of players on my NBA team, but I dont’ want a team full of foreign players!

Toronto is a different situation
but OK OK fair enough, I had forgotten about Toronto’s European influx over the last few years. My apologies.

Agreed 100%
See, jpage, we can agree on something!
At least when I comment on NBA-related matters, I acknowledge its just my opinion or innuendo. Bucher has been beyond the pale on this Melo stuff.
Lest we forget that is was Bucher who “guaranteed” that Kobe Bryant would no longer be a Laker during the summer of 2007.

I keep wondering why Bucher would so recklessly speculate like this
considering (as I’ve been told) this “wedding” column was so widely discredited it would be better used as a North Korean press release.

Man, Buchner is really starting to piss me off.
I don’t think he has a clue as to what he’s reporting . . . talk about reaching for an angle.
He said he would stake his integrety and reputation on his “leads” . . . well, that isn’t saying much.
I’m bummed about Griffin, I hope we don’t have the collapse of the Nuggets because of nepotism and an over-inflated sense of worth from a 30 year old.

Ugh. this offseason keeps getting worse
no real GM wants this crappy job, because there is no real decision-making power. Our team’s fate is in the hands of the owner’s son. Think that makes Melo feel good about the future in Denver?
I’m off to go chug some antifreeze, again.

I don't really blame Griffin
On the other hand I’m not ready to convict Kroenke and Nuggets management of Clipper-like offenses for this process. At least they are being honest about the GM position that it’s going to be a team thing was it was with Warkentein. And I don’t see why everyone is short-changing the importance of the GM role because it’s the same one that got Warkentein exec of the year and turned him into a Golden Boy in so many “experts” opinions. The GM is still going to be in charge and get all of the credit. The Nuggets FO doesn’t need to be traditionally structured like every other team to be successful, it’s worked fine for us so far.
Bret Bearup really shouldn’t be taken out to the shed so frequently by the media. The guy is qualified and he’s delivered for the Nuggets time and time again. There’s nothing wrong with having him in the front office and there’s no basis to say he’s undermining any GM that would come here. The Nuggets need a guy who wants to work with the executive team and lead it. I think we all have to accept the Nuggets are going to do this thing their own way and maybe this GM job isn’t for some of the big name guys like Pritchard or Griffin.

im willing to accept the GM job
kroenke could low-ball me with a $60k/yr salary and id be more than willing to work with josh and thedenverkid. as the GM, im also open to being the fall guy if any transactions go wrong.
give me a call, stan.
let's go nuggets! who u wit?
+1!!!
So Kroenke can buy the Rams, but can’t pay one qualified guy the industry average salary at a time when, inarguably, we need a GM for no other reason than appearances. Hell, just last month he was paying TWO guys in that capacity.
As poster The Word often says, this is a prime example of pennywise and pound foolish, in my humble opinion.

Golden Nuggets
Bucher is a crab apple..However J.Wagners approach is smart. Just not sure if knowing what to expect from a team is a good enough reason for Mel to saty with our Golden Nuggets.
How To Lose 30-Year Fan's Support
Why would any player looking for a competitive franchise stay with or join the Denver Nuggets after the recent machinations of ownership/management. There is no reason.
The bad timing and clumsy manner of firing the top two execs was just the beginning of a multi-faceted meltdown by the Kroenkes and their invisible “advisor” Mr. Bearup. Bearup’s name is worth mentioning because he was seen repeatedly with David Griffin in the playoff period, then the Nuggets insult Griffin with an offer that is under $500,000 a year—-less than half the going rate for experienced GMs. No wonder they were spreading the word that their candidate from the “highly successful Toronto franchise” iwas impressive in his final interview. As for the fallback (last option), his management experience has been limited to seeking out international players, and he was not even a paid employee of the Nuggets during the early part of his several years there
Truthfully, this is exactly what we should have expected. Now they will have a very malleable, low paid, “GM” who will not get in the way of the new 30-year-old owner and Mr. Bearup, whose main job apparently is to protect the senior Kroenke’s dollars.
Stated simply, Stan Kroenke was willilng to put up $750 million to buy the Rams, but not $1 million to get the only quality GM candidate available. This is a real lesson in how to move an NBA franchise from consistently competitive to the bottom third of the league in a single year..
I bear no personal malice toward the new management team but they are way out of their league in experience/savvy when compared to any successful franchise around the league—-and clearly under direction to cut costs (losses) regardless of the impact on the Nuggets’performance.and, of course, us pesky fans. Of course, Stan The Man will want to reduce the financial bleeding elsewhere now that he owns 100% of the totally pathetic St. Louis Rams. Having watched this team through its worst days of the past, I am unwilling to repeat that vigil when it is the direct result of arrogant control freak owners.
exactly what I said earlier...
I pretty much got scared that Kroenke would cheap on a GM and I was 100% right. Fuck I hate being rights and hope that Bucher fucked up again so we do hire Griffin. Maybe the Nuggets leaked the story so it looks like Ujiri will get the job to Griffin lowers his price… but I’m being optimistic :(
These are dark days to be a Nuggets fan
Give the man a chance
Yeah, it doesn’t look good. But let’s see what he does before we jump to conclusions.
Chris Andersen could be in a porno with his 'stache. Too bad he still wouldn't know how to box out.

I will say this...
Bearup understands how to build a team and how to scout players. I think his thought process is sound. I’m not sure how much he understands about the cap, but by looking at our offseason moves it seems like we’re preparing to make a big splash in next year’s free agent market.

Thank god we still have Bearup...
I’m not really sure what about the Toronto franchise we should try to model ourselves off. Toronto hasn’t had success in awhile, their team also doesn’t play any defense, they can’t hold onto their stars, and their drafts have been questionable.
Not to mention, this guy doesn’t have the pedigree (he went to Montana State), he doesn’t come from a successful organization, it’s not apparent to me that he understands the cap, how to evaluate players on defense, analytics, etc. I think the only thing he brings is the ability to scout foreign basketball players. It seems like he’s done more things to advance the cause for Africans in the NBA than actually bring something valuable to a team.
Sigh…

melo to the big screen
I guess melo and dwight are going hollywood. If you check melo’s twitter account it’s day 2 on set.
I can feel a rant coming on
Breathe, Goldennugget, breathe. Ok, that didn’t work. Huh, so lets see here. About a month ago we chose not to renew our GM combo in which one half of it took GM of the Year just a year ago, for reasons unknown. I can understand wanting to go in a new direction, but considering who you let go, wouldnt’ that mean you’d be wanting to upgrade? The news that Wark offered Griffin (a man who should be the only candidate for our GM job right now considering we’ve heard nothing of Pritchard) less than 500,000 per year is disgustingly offensive to me. I can’t even imagine how isulted and repulsed Griffin was of that offer. Not only does that make you Stan, look like a complete jackass considering you sent out this offer within hours of purchasing an NFL team for hundreds of millions, but this offer is likely going to make it’s jolly little way around the league to all the other potental candidates out there, all while we still don’t have a GM, and many of them likely will be saying “I’m glad I’m not in the running for that job.” So now instead of paying just a few million dollars more each year to have a guy running your professional basketball franchise who has proven he can build a championship caliber team you’re number one candidate is a guy willing to take 500,000 per year (that should say enough about how qualified he is alone), has no GM experience and comes from one of the worst franchises in the sport. I’m not trying to be judgemental here, but like a few readers have already mentioned, I don’t want a team full of Euros, which is exactly what the Raptors are under Uriji. What honestly makes you think we’d be anything different if he came here? I’m going to continue this season with high hopes, but a huge part of me can’t help but think like Kizla mentions, that this may be the last year of the best era in Nuggets history and it’s all starting to point to your stinginess with your money Stan. It’s sad that only a few million dollars might make the difference in keeping this franchise relavent and you are unwilling to dish it out, yet you’re willing to spend hunderds of times that amount of money on a terrible football franchise.
Stiff 4 Life
According to the fanshots
we do have a gm now, Uriji.
I wish I could ask Stan one thing:
How could you overpay a guy like Chris Andersen, who would have re-signed for half of what he’s getting, yet play it cheap when it comes to a GM? Why won’t you show your franchise player that you’re willing to spend almost anything to make the Nuggets a Championship team? Playing it safe just goes to show how much you really care. Yeah, you’ve made blockbuster moves in the past, but we were a rising team. Now, it just looks like you’re more focused on the St. Louis Rams then a team who’s so fucking close to winning it all, while the Denver Nuggets are on the verge of going back into “rebuilding mode”.
Yeah, I want to believe in the 2010-2011 Nuggets, but it seems like I’m getting ready to watch the final run of an elite team. It’s killing me.
WHY STAN?!
Chris Andersen could be in a porno with his 'stache. Too bad he still wouldn't know how to box out.
