Ty Lawson's Summer League Performance

Overlooked by many of the summer league reviews was the performance put in by our PG of the future (and hopefully the 2010-2011 season: Ty Lawson.  He was understandably lost in the shuffle of how good John Wall looked (23.5 PT, 7.8 AST, 2.5 STL . . . wow!), as well as all of the other much hyped rookies: some good (Cousins) and some bad (Turner).  My problem is the fact that other PG's received much more pub than did TyLaw, including Cleveland's Pooh Jeter, and New York's Toney Douglas, despite the fact that the numbers tell us Mr. Lawson had a better summer league performance.

Anyone that watched the Nuggets' games would tell you that Ty controlled the game when he was on the floor, and he was super efficient.  But for those of you who need tangible evidence (i.e.-statistics) let's compare some of his stats after the jump . . .

I've included Wall, Jeter, Douglas, Houston's Ishmael Smith (who impressed me), and New Orleans' Darren Collison (highly publicized rookie PG from last year) for comparison.

Tell me, what numbers from this list would you choose for Denver's back-up PG next year?

Think 20-25 minutes, doesn't require many shots, but hit's the ones he takes, provides a spark off the bench, get his teammates involved, very efficient.I don't know about you, but I'm looking at Player C . . . across the board.

Now the big unveil, who belongs to the stats from above?

That's right, our man TyLaw is that very player that I would choose to be the Nuggets' back-up point guard.  And if you look into it a bit deeper, Lawon's efficiency isn't that far off from Wall's . . . Mr. All-Everything super hyped best PG since Derrick Rose

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have John Wall on my team, I think he's going to be a stud, but Ty Lawson is looking like a very good back-up PG for the coming season, and a very effective/efficient starting PG in the years to come . . . if not a star in his own right.  This is why I cringed upon hearing that Ty was being discussed in trade scenarios (whether accurately or not).  Please, let's keep Ty on the Nuggets for a long time to come.
