All eyes on Melo (Golden Nuggets)...

85061_nuggets_jazz_basketball_medium_mediumNot surprisingly, with LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh signed away to Miami, all eyes are focused on Nuggets star Carmelo Anthony.  Oh, and Louis Amundson might be a Nugget?!

I like the idea of Louis Amundson as a Nugget. He’s has good size, is a hustle player and seems to be emerging as a quality NBA post player. He would add much needed depth for a modest price.

It would also be nice to stick it to the Phoenix Suns. I still can’t believe they didn’t at least work an S/T for David Lee with Stoudemire going to the Knicks.

yeah they're dumb

I think Lee would be great for their offense and the pick and roll

I know D'antoni is real interested in Randoph

But the Nugs couldn’t have put together a better deal than what GSW offered?

why would we want Lee

he can’t play any defense, and no way he deserves $80 million.

20pts and 11reb a game and he's on the court not in the trainers room

If you can’t stay healthy enough to play it doesn’t matter how good of a defender you are.

Besides this is the NBA, nobody plays defense.

The most concerning update I've heard was a radio interview with Chris Dempsey of the Denver Post

He was mentioned the Nugs had 4 open roster slots to fill (AC, Tacos, Petro, Graham) and the Nugs likely would just fill those slots with more minimum contract players.

I really hope he’s wrong.

Ugh, why does that not surpise me

Saving money over winning seems to be the motto around here the past few years. As a fan, I’m pretty damn tired of it. Every other team out there seems to be doing something this offseason and here we are again on board to do absolutely nothing. I’ll be extatic if we even land Amundson, but at this point in time I wouldn’t count on it.

Kmart and Kleiza

Why do we get rid of Kenyon? He’s our best defender as well as a tough playoff guy — who was one of the best on the court last year. With his injury, no one wants him. But his salary coming off next year will allow us to sign a big name to go with Melo, and maybe bring KMart back.
Why are we looking at Admundson and Biendrins? They are just like Bird — hustle but not offense. I’d rather us work to get Marc Gasol or Al Jefferson via trade — unfortunately that would be Nene. Or go after a Scola or Gortat.
Kleiza needs to go, but via a sign and trade for Joey Dorsey or Rasho Neserovic — big bodies who can play strong.
I’m not nearly as worried with Coach Karl coming back. I saw us as the number two team in the west last year and again in the WCF against the Lakers if he was our coach. Maybe even beating LA. Why blow it up?
Denver fans crack me up with their blind love of the mediocre Broncos and the constant turnover. Denver is smart to stay stable, and with coach back on board, plus a couple of tough players added to the mix we will be there at the top with Melo leading the way.

Kmart - Nuggest best defender. How sad is that.

Kmart played great most of last season, then the volcano in his knee erupted again and he was back to his old mostly useless self. For some reason he thinks if he can’t play well on the court then a technical will help the team out. Kmart would have been a great player for 7 mil a year but for 16mil a year he sucks.
If any jersey should be burned its not a LeBron jersey, it should be a kiki jersey. He left us with Kmarts terrible contract and for all the other stupid shit that the FO has or has not done, Kmarts contract has always been the straw.

Thank you el Carg for giving me a little hope for this season. I think you make some great points but I have to play devils advocate here and bring up a couple things that concern me and make me think we are at best a 7th seed next year.
1. We have so many players in ‘contract years’ this season who may play very selfishly to try and fill up the box score so they can get a good contract next season. This could constantly keep the offense out of sink.
2. We simply have no depth and no size. It is possible we could start the season without Birdman and Kenyon (and now Petro is gone). I just don’t see minimum salary players filling the void until until they get healthy. Any big bodies on the bench would be a good thing, even if their talents/skill sets are similar to players we already have.
3. We need a reliable 3rd scorer who won’t crumble under pressure. I am hoping this problem will be solved by Ty Lawson or maybe even Nene sliding over to PF but those are not guaranteed.

by chefben2 on Jul 10, 2010 4:33 PM MDT up reply actions

mostly agree

except for i think you’ve understated the big man problem. kmart might not suit up for a long time. i love his game, but he’s no good to the nuggets for the time being. and it seems like nene is never going to live up to what we all expected of him. remember him getting owned by paul milsap in the playoffs? that’s not going to work for a 2 seed that thinks it can beat the lakers. and as i’ve said before, i’d take a ham sandwich for jr smith at this point. but we do need help at the 4/5 spots. don’t know how marc gasol becomes that guy, but he’d be amazing with the nuggets. i’ll let you work out the details…

Kleiza clearly doesn't want to play in Denver

It’s understandable with Melo here, but Toronto has two Euro’s who are more accomplished than Kleiza at his best positions (SF/PF) so I don’t see how he’s going to get more playing time there.

Amundson would be a great add....

but we really need a true center. If we can just somehow dump K-Mart’s contract and get rid of JR we should be able to get it done.

Karl Cures Nuggets Cancer

Having the coach back will solve a lot of the issues, especially concerning JR. He seems to keep him grounded. I saw progress early in the season to where Smith was making smarter basketball decisions. Dantley unfortunately couldn’t connect with him the same way. Amundson would be a great pickup, bringing back the “Najera” type. We missed some of that last season. I think we should take a chance and trade Nene for Jefferson who is a very underrated player. Start him and Amundson and he will make up for the scoring. Keep Bird coming off the bench and play small ball with the second unit. Let Lawson and JR run wild!

Jefferson is overrated

Seriously, are we trying to resurect the 03-08 “no D, just outscore you” nuggets? We need defense. The nugs should use more of the shot clock, rebound more and HAVE A PLAYBOOK. We need someone like gortat or biendrins, who can play D, rebound and get a few points of offensive rebounds and open shots/ dunks.

Walsh: Knicks will have $pace for Carmelo, Paul

From ProSportsDaily

“Everybody Loves Raymond in the Knicks’ front office. The clutch signing of point guard Raymond Felton to a two-year deal puts the Knicks in position to earn an eighth seed in the playoffs and a possible first-round matchup with LeBron James’ Miami Dream Team. But Felton’s short-term contract also has allowed the Knicks to develop a new master plan and dream bigger. The Knicks now can chase superstars who actually want to play in New York: Carmelo Anthony in 2011 and point guards Chris Paul or Deron Williams in 2012. As reported exclusively in yesterday’s Post, the Knicks’ insistence on no more than two guaranteed years for Felton at $15.8 million has given them the cap-space flexibility to”

This is hilarious

So first it was the Summer of 2010, now it’s the Summer of 2012. Even if the Knicks get CP3 or D-Will, they still have a long way to go before they can match up with the Heat.
