Top Possible Bigs

With Free Agency only being about 3 days away now, I'm going to look at the top possible (realistic) bigs that the Nuggets might be looking at. I'm going to look at scoring, rebounding (offensive and defensive), assists, turn overs, blocks, and steals all per 30 minutes. I do 30 minutes because that's a reasonable amount of time for starters in the league. I'll look at David Lee, Udonis Haslem, Brendan Haywood, Hakin Warrick, Amir Johnson, Brandan Wright (stats may be deceiving since he only played 121 minutes last year), Jason Maxiell, Chris Wilcox, Tyson Chandler, Drew Gooden, and Andris Biedrins. If you have any other players that you would like to see up here, just ask!

Overall, I think all of these players would be good fits. Biedrins would be amazing if he could stay healthy, I'd love to add his defensive game along with his athleticism and size. Brendan Haywood would be a nice option as well, if we could sign him to the MLE. I like David Lee, but he might be too expensive. Udonis Haslem would be a great addition, but he seems extremely loyal and it sounds like he's a top priority for the Heat this off-season. Hakim Warrick will probably be available, he'll want to play with Melo, but I don't think he'll help a ton in terms of a big. Amir Johnson looks to be a good defensive player and a very efficent offensive player. I also like Brandan Wright because he's big (although he needs to add weight), he's talented around the rim, and he looks to be solid defensively. Jason Maxiell and Chris Wilcox are nice options, they're solid in almost every aspect of their game, but not great at anything either. Tyson Chandler adds nice height, but he's extremely injury prone and his contract is huge. Drew Gooden is one of my favorite options, he's good offensively and pretty good defensively as well.

Here's my idea:

1. Trade K-Mart and JR to Golden State for Biedrins, Azubuike, and Wright

2. Sign Amir Johnson

New Lineup:

PG: Chauncey Billups, Ty Lawson

SG: Arron Afflalo, Kelenna Azubuike

SF: Carmelo Anthony, Joey Graham, Renaldo Balkman

PF: Nene, Brandan Wright, Amir Johnson

C: Andris Biedrins, Chris Anderson

Andris Biedrins: 10.2 rebounds (2.5 offensive, 7.7 defensive)

Is that before or after injury?

Chris Andersen could be in a porno with his 'stache. Too bad he still wouldn't know how to box out.

Last years numbers.

He had 259 rebounds last year, divide that by 762 (total number of minutes last year). That equals about .339 rebounds per minute, multiply that by 30 and you get 10.1 rebounds per 30 minutes.

Thanks

…Too bad he’s still not the answer though.

you never know

he could be if he can stay healthy.

what do they care about?

I used 30 minutes because 30 minutes is at least what most effective players play.

Piston

Looking to get rid of wilcox and maxiell acording to realgm. If we could work a trade for both of them plus rip Hamilton would be sweet.

by tknuckle on Jun 27, 2010 8:08 PM MDT via mobile reply actions

That would be good

Except those players aren’t 7’ centers, which would mean nene would be our center.

by Monkfish on Jun 27, 2010 9:47 PM MDT via mobile up reply actions

I just don't think a

True 7foot center is going to fall in our laps you have to remember the whole league is trying to get better and we are in a medium market so not to many FA’s are jumping at the chance to come here so I say trade for who ever you could get right now.

by tknuckle on Jun 27, 2010 10:16 PM MDT via mobile up reply actions

Isn't really nesessary

But a banger and good rebounder would be good, like biendrins.

by Monkfish on Jun 27, 2010 11:10 PM MDT via mobile up reply actions

Beans is soft

Plus the guy can’t hit a FT. So folks will just hack-a-bean. we already have nene who can’t hit FT’s. I think we should stay away from biendrins and he injurie prone.

by tknuckle on Jun 27, 2010 11:23 PM MDT via mobile up reply actions

Beans is a 50% career ft shooter

Martin shot 55% last year. Not that different. Last year was too small a sample size to draw any conclusions. And every time he was at the line, he was really nervous.

by Monkfish on Jun 29, 2010 10:39 AM MDT via mobile up reply actions

He is really nervous at the line because he knows he can't shoot FTs (that's not a good excuse)

Also, Biedrins isn’t aggressive at all.

Nene-Biedrins would be the least aggressive big man tandem in the league (well, Diaw-Mohammed maybe)

Try this on for size

Trade kmart and jr to Detroit for rip, maxiell and wilcox. I think all the #’s work out plus old dumars likes to deal with us. Great trade

by tknuckle on Jun 27, 2010 8:16 PM MDT via mobile reply actions

I crunched the#'s

And we save 3 mil if we could pull off this piston trade .

what else is new?

HA!

"I believe that basketball, when a certain level of unselfish team play is realized, can serve as a kind of metaphor for ultimate cooperation. It is a sport where success, as symbolized by the championship, requires that the dictates of the community prevail over selfish personal impulses. An exceptional player is simply one point on a five-pointed star. Statistics—such as points, rebounds, or assists per game—can never explain the remarkable interaction that takes place on a successful pro team."

Only 3 votes for Haslem?

He is a good defender, and he’s tougher than 90% of the big men in this league

how much can the heat offer him?

id take him for the MLE

let's go nuggets! who u wit?

by 808inDenver on Jun 29, 2010 10:22 AM MDT up reply actions

The Heat won't offer him anything because they want a Wade-Bosh combo

The Nuggets are too cheap to offer him the MLE, so some savvy team like the Thunder will snatch him up for less than he’s worth

Actually...

he’s extremely high on the Heat’s priorities list for the off-season.

too small

he’s not any bigger than Melo. That won’t cut it against Gasol and company

just read the Mavs have been in talks with Twolves

They’re thinking about pairing BIG AL with Dirk. Though might encounter similar issues as with Big Al and KLove…

Nuggs aren’t going to make any smart moves, Big AL to Dallas makes them a tall team since they still have Haywood and Dirk etc. The trades start happening soon, and Denver is gonna be left out in the cold if they don’t make a move. : (

by InboundingLobPass on Jun 29, 2010 5:00 PM MDT via mobile reply actions

Big Al sucks.

He is a ball hog, fat, slow and immature.

by Monkfish on Jun 29, 2010 7:33 PM MDT via mobile up reply actions

What about Francisco Elson

He’s a decent 7’ center who has experience with the team, and I always liked him. Yahoo’s reporting the 76ers won’t be resigning him, so why shouldn’t we look at him?

Personally, I think resigning Petro, adding a guy like Elson, and praying for the health of Andersen, Nene, and Martin is our best bet for this year.

by NugsRoxHusker on Jun 30, 2010 7:05 AM MDT reply actions

Health of Martin?

no way that Martin’s healthy.

STIFF LIST (as of 4/26 by Andrew Feinstein)

1. METTA WORLD PEACE

Metta resorted back to Ron Ron last Sunday by clubbing James Hardenwith an "inadvertent celebratory elbow", landing him a 7-game suspension. Apparently, changing his name didn't prevent NBA commissioner David Stern from overlooking Metta's past behavior problems.

2. CHARLOTTE BOBCATS

The 'Cats are on the verge of securing the worst winning percentage in NBA history. Given that the guy who runs the team - Michael Jordan - had previously drafted Kwame Brown and Adam Morrison, should this really be a shock?

3. OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER
The team that was supposedly built to overcome the lockout-shortened season managed to lose 7 of its last 14 games, ceding the Western Conference's 1-seed to the Spurs in the process. Their reward might be a first round matchup with defending champion Dallas.

4. BILLY HUNTER AND DEREK FISHER
With report after report coming out about NBPA union head Hunter's shady, nepotistic dealings and questions arising about Fisher's own role in dealing with NBA owners behind Hunter's back during the lockout, this off-the-court scandal could prove to be more exciting than the playoffs themselves!

5. STEVE NASH AND THE PHOENIX SUNS
The Suns are on this list for squandering the last few great seasons from Nash. Nash is on this list for his stupidly stubborn loyalty to a franchise as awful as the Suns.
