Iverson coming back to NBA

This brings up a couple of thoughts. Could we get him to be a scorer off the bench.
From espn.com

PHILADELPHIA -- Allen Iverson is working on a comeback.

Iverson Iverson

Gary Moore, Iverson's personal manager, said that Iverson is planning a return to the NBA next season. Iverson returned to the Philadelphia 76ers in December and took a leave of absence in March because of family issues.

"Allen is working out and he's getting himself prepared to make his return," Moore said by phone Friday. "He absolutely will try and play next year."

Iverson left the Sixers to deal with an undisclosed illness of his 4-year-old daughter, Messiah.

"With God's graces, she's doing very well," Moore said.

Iverson has not talked publicly since ending his second stint with the Sixers. Iverson's wife, Tawanna, filed for divorce the same week he left Philadelphia. He posted messages on his Twitter account in March telling fans he expected to overcome the most recent obstacles in his life.

Iverson's most recent Twitter updates were promotions for his basketball camp in July and his documentary "Deconstructing Allen Iverson." Moore said the film could be released in the fall.

Iverson was the No. 1 overall pick in the 1996 draft and spent his first 10 seasons in Philadelphia. He won the MVP in 2001 when he led the Sixers to the Finals.

Sixers president Ed Stefanski said on an NBA.com chat this week the team was "not aware of what his plans are for the future."

Iverson, who turned 35 on June 7, was a four-time scoring champion and averaged 26.7 points in a 14-year career with the Sixers, Denver, Detroit and Memphis. He failed to win a championship.

Iverson made a tearful return to Philadelphia eager to prove he wasn't finished after disastrous stints in Detroit and Memphis. He returned to a sold-out crowd dotted with No. 3 jerseys, but he only showed flashes of his former playmaking self when he ruled the NBA as one of the best guards around.

"Allen wants to come and help a team win a championship, which he's completely capable of doing," Moore said.

Allen is a starter

We’ve seen him off of the bench before. It didn’t sit well. I say no to Iverson.

Chris Andersen could be in a porno with his 'stache. Too bad he still wouldn't know how to box out.

meh... I wouldn't mind if he wasn't washed up... I thought that he still had the talent and ability but aftere last years tender with the 6ers...

like he had the perfect chance to prove he still had game with Philly but he looked old and washed up…

also he won’t go to the bench…
sorry AI I used to like u.. but it would be a bad move

Love Iverson and that will never go away.

Unfortunately…there is no room for him here with the guards we have. If we didnt have Tywan then I wouldnt mind…but we do!

Agree, It's kind of circus freak time now with AI

There’s always been drama, but he did so much on the court that a lot of his stuff could be overlooked.

Now its just bad scripted reality TV.

Iverson is done

He only wants to play if he is starting. At this point, he’s no longer good enough to start, so he’ll show up then retire again as soon as the coach puts him on the bench. Signing Iverson is a waste of time.

If the Nugs package Smith, Lawson, and a future pick to get Cousins

Or if they package Smith, Lawson, and a future pick to get someone like Jefferson out of Minnesota then Iverson would be a solid pickup as a bench scorer to replace JR and Ty’s production. I actually think both of these would be good ideas but I definitely prefer Jefferson.

in what world

is Iverson agreeing to come off the bench? He quit on Detroit when they tried to play him off the bench, he quit on Memphis, and he quit on Philly. It is not happening.

that was my idea... but it also involves us taking back one or two of the Kings bad contracts (Udrih or Garcia) who are both better than Iverson at this point...

also we could easily sign someone like Nate Robinson who has the same impact as AI, but actually will come off the bench…

Never been an AI fan; but I've always acknowledged his greatness

Just seeing the headline is a very sad and pathetic story.

AI is under the same delusion that Starbury has; that they are still relevant NBA players. They’re not. AI is a Hall of Famer but he became irrelevant 2years ago when his skills went downhill.

Could he skill-wise be a valued player off the bench… probably. But AI’s delusions (can’t even call it ego anymore) won’t allow it. He still thinks he’s “The Answer”.

A team may ultimately cave in and make a mistake and sign him; but AI burned his NBA bridges with the Memphis debacle. Nobody wanted to sign him; Memphis offered but told him up front he’s coming off the bench. AI arrives late, misses practice & preseason with an “injury” and then immediately goes AI Diva because he’s not starting… sad

Go to Europe, you can still play and be treated like a king for 3 – 5 more years. It’s not the NBA but maybe it’ll help give a bit of a happy ending to AI’s career.

Exactly

If A.I. can admit he’s no longer starter worthy, I actually think he could be a great contributer to a championship team. I think A.I. has most likely matured and been humbled these last few seasons. If he wants a title, there’s no shame in coming off the bench, but if he’s still too stuborn to do that and wants to start he’ll likely get no calls from any NBA teams this offseason.

I saw this on the news

and right after they said Denver had no interest. so none of this really matters.

STIFF LIST (as of 4/26 by Andrew Feinstein)

1. METTA WORLD PEACE

Metta resorted back to Ron Ron last Sunday by clubbing James Hardenwith an "inadvertent celebratory elbow", landing him a 7-game suspension. Apparently, changing his name didn't prevent NBA commissioner David Stern from overlooking Metta's past behavior problems.

2. CHARLOTTE BOBCATS

The 'Cats are on the verge of securing the worst winning percentage in NBA history. Given that the guy who runs the team - Michael Jordan - had previously drafted Kwame Brown and Adam Morrison, should this really be a shock?

3. OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER
The team that was supposedly built to overcome the lockout-shortened season managed to lose 7 of its last 14 games, ceding the Western Conference's 1-seed to the Spurs in the process. Their reward might be a first round matchup with defending champion Dallas.

4. BILLY HUNTER AND DEREK FISHER
With report after report coming out about NBPA union head Hunter's shady, nepotistic dealings and questions arising about Fisher's own role in dealing with NBA owners behind Hunter's back during the lockout, this off-the-court scandal could prove to be more exciting than the playoffs themselves!

5. STEVE NASH AND THE PHOENIX SUNS
The Suns are on this list for squandering the last few great seasons from Nash. Nash is on this list for his stupidly stubborn loyalty to a franchise as awful as the Suns.
