April 19: Non-Nuggets playoff thread

Hello fellow Stiffs,

Andrew and I wanted to offer you guys a place to talk about non-Nuggets games as the playoffs wear on. We also got a couple of requests from the readers and we always like to provide you guys with stuff you want and we also like to force you folks to read stuff you don't want ... at least I do (hello Fast and Furious references!).

Anyhow, we'll be posting Threads for Non-Nuggets games in the FanPost sections on the day of those games, so be on the lookout for the correct dates (noted above as April 19th for today) and feel free to talk about the other games going on that evening so we don't litter the Nuggets game threads too much.

Some great games yesterday ... Dallas got a Melo-esque performance from Dirk to beat the Spurs and former Nuggets Andre Miller and Marcus Camby helped the Blazers earn a HUGE road win against the Suns in Phoenix last night.

Tonight's games:

Chicago at Cleveland on TNT at 6:00 p.m. MST.

The Cavs look to hold home court and deliver another big win over the Bulls. Will Shaq's new trimmer self be as dominant as he was in Game 1 ... will LeBron time out any more blocks on Derrick Rose in Game 2? Tune in before the Nuggets game to find out.

Write respectfully of your SB Nation community and yourself.

Portland's victory showed...if anything...you can't take teams for granted in the playoffs

I honestly don't know why it surprised everyone so much.

Portland has great defense against Phoenix (something that doesn’t depend on Roy) and Portland’s offense can get points from lots of guys.

Every time Denver plays Portland they do a great job on Roy and yet the Blazers still are right in the games and even winning. Roy is special and the best player, but they play a style that doesn’t depend on one guy. Although LMA pushed for more shots, but Andre Miller and Bayless did a hell of a job getting to the rim against a team that is very prone to interior threats.

Portland is mapping out a blueprint to the rest of the league on how to beat the Suns…let’s hope Denver is paying attention.

hahahahaha

Did you see Andre Miller’s 3-pointer to basically give Portland the lead for good? Was a huge shot and they left him WIDE open as anyone would.

He held is hand up with three fingers all the way down the floor…he hit 16 threes all season!!! Big number 17 right there.

that was crazy

I heard he held it up because his son asked him to make a 3, that’s why he was looking around for his son in the crowd and smiling. If you didn’t know that’s also why he did that crazy dunk in Denver, his son didn’t think he could.

the blueprint is get amare frustrated and in foul trouble

and exploit nash and dragic’s defensive weaknesses. should be pretty simple but we can’t seem to do it against them. i don’t know why. chauncey and lawson should tear them apart

I feel really dirty rooting for the Spurs....

…but them taking Dallas down would be oh so helpful.

At least take them to 7 games would be fun ...

I'd rather have to face the Mavs than the Spurs

Popovich is brilliant… Spurs will put up a fight

I hate the Mavs more, with Cuban

and their fans. I’d rather beat them if we get past LA.

by margabelle on Apr 19, 2010 1:51 PM MDT up reply actions

I'm going for the Mavs too

Pop just scares the living shit out of me while Dirk and the rest of the Mavs don’t one bit. We have their number I feel.

"Jive turkey is a little over the line my man!"

"I'm kinda grumpy today, dude. I didn't get a lot of sleep last night. I was having those dreams again. Ya know, how it's just me in a castle and I gotta fight, like, a thousand wizards and the only way to beat them is to punch them as hard as I can in their faces. Then, when I'm done, all their little wizard wives came out and wanted me to have sex with them - which is kinda weird."

Carlisle is a great coach as well

Maybe not quite as experienced, but he makes any team dangerous. Eeh it’s a tossup. Mavs are good, Spurs are good. Pop is good, Carlisle is good. I have to say I’d rather face the Spurs just because the Nuggets’ve already gone into SA and won twice…

although I’m rooting for the Blazers to pull off back-to-back upsets in this round and the next…yeh wishful thinking I know.

I'd like the Mavs to lose

because it would be so much fun when they realize they spent too much money to lose in the first round. And they had a big trade this season only to finish lower than last season.

In other news:

Camby reportedly signs an extension in Portland.

Reportedly 2 years for 21mil.

Happy for Marcus he deserves it

The guy is classy and too hard to hate. Too bad for Greg Oden. You don’t pay a guy that much money to come off the bench for you, I think Portland learned that with Andre. Hate to say it, Greg Oden looks like an unbelievably bad pick right now

The way Kevin Durant is developing

That could go down as a Darko pick. Not Bowie-level, but still terrible.

I mean Oden might fulfill some of his potential and become like a 20-10 guy for a couple years…Durant could become a 30-8 guy for several seasons. Perennial scoring champion and MVP contender.

Dear Noah

I love you!
Take it to Cleveland, even though your team lost.

STIFF LIST (as of 4/26 by Andrew Feinstein)

1. METTA WORLD PEACE

Metta resorted back to Ron Ron last Sunday by clubbing James Hardenwith an "inadvertent celebratory elbow", landing him a 7-game suspension. Apparently, changing his name didn't prevent NBA commissioner David Stern from overlooking Metta's past behavior problems.

2. CHARLOTTE BOBCATS

The 'Cats are on the verge of securing the worst winning percentage in NBA history. Given that the guy who runs the team - Michael Jordan - had previously drafted Kwame Brown and Adam Morrison, should this really be a shock?

3. OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER
The team that was supposedly built to overcome the lockout-shortened season managed to lose 7 of its last 14 games, ceding the Western Conference's 1-seed to the Spurs in the process. Their reward might be a first round matchup with defending champion Dallas.

4. BILLY HUNTER AND DEREK FISHER
With report after report coming out about NBPA union head Hunter's shady, nepotistic dealings and questions arising about Fisher's own role in dealing with NBA owners behind Hunter's back during the lockout, this off-the-court scandal could prove to be more exciting than the playoffs themselves!

5. STEVE NASH AND THE PHOENIX SUNS
The Suns are on this list for squandering the last few great seasons from Nash. Nash is on this list for his stupidly stubborn loyalty to a franchise as awful as the Suns.
