Agreed

Nuggets play entertaining basketball, that’s for sure. Wait until you see JR throw down one of his patented “ridiculous dunk-contest dunks” in game.

Oh I know what JR and the Nuggets can do. My favorite game of the year was the Nuggets thrashing of Los Angeles earlier this year.

Agreed

This game dragged in the 1st half because of the fouls called, once the refs swallowed their whistles, this became a very entertaining game. Let them play. The fans don’t want to see two teams shoot FT’s the entire game.

I was at the game

Officiating definitely favored Nuggets in 4th quarter. Millsap in particular was getting held by Nene continuously. Nuggets shot lights out though so it didn’t matter.

by Bouncy Phillips on Apr 18, 2010 12:38 AM MDT up reply actions

GREAT WIN

we blew it up in the fourth

Melo was on fire!!! he did all his 42 with only 4 FTs!!!
JR really got hot in the fourth, great game for him
Chauncey was good, great that he got some extra rest
Ty really proved how special he will be, g-d i love this rook
Nene had a quiet yet good night
AAA great D on D-will
Kmart worked the boards
Bird got some bothers and boards
AD coached well (no AC and rested CB1)

lets keep this up team… 15 more wins til champs!!! (knock on wood, fingers crossed)

btw, side note:

That was a trademark Denver win

a tie game more or less with a five minute stretch of JR 3s, inspired D and fast breaks that breaks the game open.

I'm sure I speak for all of us Rockets fans back at The Dream Shake when I say:

thank you for wrecking the Jazz. But beware, if Andrei Kirelinko comes back and guards Melo, Melo won’t have his way in the post due to Kirelinko fopping all over the court, we have seen him do it first hand. Good luck in the rest of the series. It would be awesome if you guys sweep Utah. Get it done!

I loved that preview

I don’t know if you could hate the Jazz more than me. I’ve hated them since Malone and Hornacek flopped and cheated to two Finals appearances, and delighted in their awful fans crying when Jordan ripped out their hearts. I think the look on all the Jazz fans’ faces behind the hoop in the SI photo of Jordan’s final shot is my favorite image in sports (Ok, maybe not my favorite, since my teams have won four championships in my lifetime, but it’s up there).

And the flop is horrendous. I think Ken Mauer was reffing that game so that explains the call.

How great was it to see Ty as a serious factor again?

Melo & JR were the heroes tonight, but it seems like everything started with Lawson getting to the rim in the 2nd half. Got Utah’s entire D out of whack, and once the 3’s and pull-up J’s started raining down, it was over.

An all around kickass game from our Nuggets – that early season swagger is back!

+1

watching AD’s press conference and he seems to have gotten his swag as coach, he probably wants to beat his old team bad and then GK can come back and beat LA.

Proud member of Thuggetz nation.

by Phil H. on Apr 17, 2010 11:44 PM MDT up reply actions

That reminds me

Is anyone else worried that GK coming back might possibly be a bad thing? Obviously from a team point of view it would be a great thing and we all wish him the best, but from a purely basketball perspective…maybe switching coaches in the midst of the playoffs could hurt them?

Then again I’m probably worrying over nothing

by Mini Hulk on Apr 17, 2010 11:49 PM MDT up reply actions

I've worried that we might depend on him being back to carry us

similar to the way we thought coming home would carry us in game 3 against LA last year after getting the split in LA. I’m worried that Karl may need to get back in the flow a bit at first, and if the team is expecting his presence to carry them, I think it could be a trap. If not, I think it will be an overall positive, just maybe not as huge as we’ve been saying the last couple weeks.

I saw it live, if this was a regular season game he would get at least 2 games. It’s the playoffs and David Stern is a PoS. He will probably get one game. However if there is no suspension I’m calling pure anarchy and this league is surely fixed.

I just watched the Jazz post game show

Those announcers were definitely pissed. First of all they did not take kindly to the Pepsi Center crowd chanting “Utah Suck!” (I was chanting with them from home).

Next they talked about how the Jazz have to contain Melo by constantly giving him hard fouls “If he gets to the free throw line, so be it.”

The main thing I picked up is that they are worried, but have confidence that coach Sloan will come up with some game plan to defeat the Nuggets.

My opinion is as biased as NBA refs and Im telling you this series is all but over, If the Jazz struggled against the Lakers last season in the playoffs, there is no way they can beat this Nuggets team!

On FSN Utah...

Dont know why I get on on Direct tv… Probly cause I dont live too far from Utah, mebbe they figure there are some Utah fans in this part of CO.

It also seemed like they were trying to draw a pity party for the Jazz. Every player interview they asked…
“Does it seem like the injury situation is getting ridiculous?”
I mean Every player got asked that… Miles, Milsap, Williams, even Sloan.

by distortedman on Apr 18, 2010 12:13 AM MDT up reply actions

I hope they know that they're the only team that causes that chant

We’re normally a little classier than that, but let’s face it, Utah sucks! I’m glad we give them that chant. I chant right along. Fuck the Jazz, their fans, and that whole state. Am I being juvenile? Hell, yeah! What’s Utah going to do about it? Nothing! Suck it worst fans in the league. I hope we can dispatch them quickly so we don’t have to offend the Utah broadcaster’s sensibilities too much.

Isn’t Harpring a Jazz announcer now? That guy committed sexual assault every time he took the floor. How can he get offended by a Utah sucks chant?

by airforcefoo on Apr 18, 2010 12:11 AM MDT up reply actions

What the fuck is your problem?

Worst fans in the world? Dude, I was at the game tonight. The guys in the row behind me cheered as Okur writhed on the floor and again as he was carried from the bench.

How can you be basketball fans if you want to see the game spoiled by injuries? Should Utah fans be stoked that George Karl has cancer?

Get over your hatred. Don’t you just wanna see good basketball?

by Bouncy Phillips on Apr 18, 2010 12:47 AM MDT up reply actions

I have seen Jazz fans making fun of Karl having Cancer and cracking jokes at his expense

Trust me there are always fans that are the outliers in any fanbase, but I do think that Jazz fans, and SLC Dunk especially, takes big offense to anyone saying anything that could possibly be against their team or any sort of words that might be interpreted as a bad word, sucks comes to mind.

by ColoradoAggie11 on Apr 18, 2010 12:54 AM MDT up reply actions

I just wanna see a good Jazz ass kicking

I can’t speak for the guys behind you, but I don’t think there were many people cheering for an injured player (and if they were, well, it’s because most of your players are so easy to hate, not that I’d excuse it). There isn’t a post long enough to go over all the reasons I hate the Jazz (although that gives me a decent idea for a fan post). I sat next to Jazz fans and they were the most annoying, rude, and ignorant fans I’ve ever encountered. They also knew every Jazz player’s name and that they thought Iverson was a punk, but not much about basketball. That didn’t stop them from making obnoxious remarks the whole game, of course. And these were old guys. This is just one sample anecdote from the volumes I have stored in my head on why I hate the Jazz. You guys always boo and flip out when you’re consistently wrong about plays or calls during home games (all fan bases do this, but Utah beats everyone else by a mile). Your team’s style of play has been questionable at best as far as playing clean my entire life, during which you’ve been coached by the same guy. Anyway, don’t tell me to get over my hate of the Jazz, because I won’t. But I will lick your tears after we stomp your ass.

by airforcefoo on Apr 18, 2010 12:57 AM MDT up reply actions

Nuggets fans were chanting that last year too.

I guess the announcers haven’t figured out that we hate Utah

What Would Brian Boitano Do?

by Mini Hulk on Apr 18, 2010 12:14 AM MDT up reply actions

These Utah people don't understand

Get upset because we hate the Jazz? I certainly don’t hate Utah as a state. But the Jazz never really had the Nuggets number over the years — they just got calls PERPETUALLY on obvious flops. I will always, ALWAYS hate the Jazz. It’s a dumber name than the Nuggets too. At least we have legendary Jazz clubs in Denver and the “Nuggets” can be shortened to the “Nugs” or even the “Thuggets”, which we are not. If anything the Jazz should be renamed the Utah Choir, to stick with the musical theme.

In fact, I may just begin calling ’em that. The Utah Choir.

And yes, Utah Suck! (sic)

by ortolan on Apr 18, 2010 12:15 AM MDT up reply actions

This is gonna be a good rivalry playoff series

Im sure when the series shifts to Utah we will be serenaded with “Nuggets Suck,” or “Colorado Sucks,” or something of that nature. The Utah announcers certainly did their part to incense the Salt Lake masses.

When we finally beat the jazz in this series, they are gonna resent the Nuggets. Just like the Hornets resented us this year… but times 10.

by distortedman on Apr 18, 2010 12:19 AM MDT up reply actions

They should hate us

because I hate them! Bring it on. I’d love for some Jazz troll to come along so I can crush them.

by airforcefoo on Apr 18, 2010 12:23 AM MDT up reply actions

Yeah, cos when the series moves to Utah

There definitely won’t be any “Denver Sucks” or “Nuggets suck” or “Thuggets suck” chants. Because Jazz fans are much better people of course.

Utah does not care about winning

they just care about being average. Thats why Sloan has been their coach for FOREVER

Jazz reporter just said to Sloan that this was a "really winnable game for you guys"

Yeah, up until we turned it on and blew them out of the building in the fourth quarter. Other than that, really winnable game for the Jazz. I even hate the people that cover the Jazz. That organization brings out the worst in me, the way only the them, the Red Wings and the Raiders can.

Im gonna watch the replay of this game in its entiretly

I am that excited I cant sleep. Just to watch Williams sad face…

Remember the '94 playoffs?

Man did we go apeshit about some calls like maybe game 3 at McNichols! Shit was thrown on the court. I think it was an obvious Malone flop.

But the Utah Choir fans need to face it, they were spoiled by having perennial cheaters on their single solitary pro team lo those years. Alex English, Fat Lever, Calvin Natt any day over them. Players.

by ortolan on Apr 18, 2010 12:25 AM MDT reply actions

I was only 5 at the time,

and I remember despising Karl Malone. Besides deciding that Chris Jackson was my favorite Nugget (mainly because I liked his name, I think, which he of course changed) and saying to my dad, “Maybe we will come back” after we went down 0-2 to Seattle, and then watching us win game 5, hating Karl Malone is one of my earliest Nuggets memories. So yeah, Utah sucks!

by airforcefoo on Apr 18, 2010 12:31 AM MDT up reply actions

I was a Junior in high school

And I sung in a band and went to that game before going to prom that same day.

Needless to say I couldn’t sing after that series and couldn’t talk to my date that night either.

But apparently we were sitting next to Tom Chambers’ mom that day and somebody came over to us and asked us to “keep it down”, we had made his mom cry — she was sitting near us I guess. God, how I hated Tom Chambers too.

by ortolan on Apr 18, 2010 12:46 AM MDT up reply actions

What was that old quote by Nugs center Brian Williams back in the day?

It was during the ’94 playoffs.

It went like: “The only thing good about Salt Lake City is that Vegas is right down the street”.

Anyone remember?

I'm not as impressed by this post

While I hated him, Karl Malone was a slam dunk hall-of-famer. And how can you call Scottie Pippen overrated? Pippen was underrated, and the comparison to Mo Williams is just insulting. Also, Dennis Johnson is a definite hall-of-famer, as well. He was before my time, but the stories of his defensive prowess are legendary and he did so many things well and won plenty of titles. I think he was an obvious choice. And I know that it’s a Rockets blog, but I’m pretty sure every neutral NBA observer would say that DJ was better than Horry.

by airforcefoo on Apr 18, 2010 1:31 AM MDT up reply actions

I see your points about Pippen and DJ.

Pippen may never have been elected though if he weren’t in Chicago in the 90’s. Same goes for DJ on the Celtics in the 80’s. And Karl Malone is a dirty player. He is a cheap-shot artist. Plain and simple.

And whenever Deron is on the floor, Afflalo needs to be too.

Jazz fan at Nuggets game

Nuggets were outstanding in the 4th. There was no stopping most of those shots. Just an awesome hot streak to win it. You should be proud of your team. Shoddy defense though, as a team with basically no frontcourt hung with the Nuggets for three quarters.

As for the handfuls of fans all around me that cheered as Okur writhed in pain, you are the worst kind of sports fans. You disrespect the game and are probably just shitty people to know. You make Denver great!

by Bouncy Phillips on Apr 18, 2010 12:55 AM MDT reply actions

Denver is great, compared to Salt Lake City. In so many ways I wouldn’t even know where to begin.

FU Rob Blake, and I mean that in the most gentlemanly way possible

by Bob in Boulder on Apr 18, 2010 12:56 AM MDT up reply actions

I live in Greeley, which is great compared to SLC

Their slogan should just be: Welcome to Utah: Home of hypocritical religious zealots (as evidence by their belligerent sports fans — Jazz and BYU) and black hole of fun. The only good parts about that state are the one’s that aren’t populated.

by airforcefoo on Apr 18, 2010 1:02 AM MDT up reply actions

I don't love it, but I go to school here

It does have stuff to do for fun, though. And you don’t have to have a license to buy a drink.

by airforcefoo on Apr 18, 2010 1:20 AM MDT up reply actions

Denver is great

I was being sarcastic. Obviously SLC skiing is far superior to Denver’s, but no need to get into it.

I’ve lived in both places, both are great, and you guys just love to hate. Not much trash talk about Colorado coming from Utah though.

by Bouncy Phillips on Apr 18, 2010 1:02 AM MDT up reply actions

That's because there isn't skiing in Denver,

but if you drive 90 minutes, we have mountains that trump yours. So even the parts of Utah that the people who inhabit it had nothing to do with, aren’t as good. In other words, there’s no reason to go, unless it’s to do some hiking or biking in the Canyonland and Moab area, where there aren’t a bunch of Utahans (is that right? I don’t know) ruining the experience.

by airforcefoo on Apr 18, 2010 1:07 AM MDT up reply actions

Oh please

Colorado rules! I’ve lived for 10 years near Aspen. But you will not the skiing argument. The fact is: Both Utah and Colorado are awesome places to live, and both have great basketball teams. Get over it.

Are you anti-Utah, or just anti-Mormon. Two different things.

by Bouncy Phillips on Apr 18, 2010 1:10 AM MDT up reply actions

I’m just anti-Jazz. Utah is OK. No other major pro sports teams, so that would suck. Much more to do in Denver and in the whole metro area.

FU Rob Blake, and I mean that in the most gentlemanly way possible

by Bob in Boulder on Apr 18, 2010 1:14 AM MDT up reply actions

True

Denver metro is funner than SLC metro. But the Wasatch, the desert, the bizarre alien culture. Fascinating place…

by Bouncy Phillips on Apr 18, 2010 1:17 AM MDT up reply actions

I would assume people cheered because it meant the edge that was being given to the Choir by the refs was now out the window. The NBA wanted the Choir to have this one. But the bad calls couldn’t overcome the Swish factor in the 4th or your injuries. You guys are so used to calls going your way over the years, you don’t really know what basketball is anymore. And no offense to you either. And no human cheers an injury to another. But, what I said at the time was, “Karma for your years of cheating Utah.”

I’m serious. Shit in the midwest division and now the northwest division has always gone your way. As diehard Nuggets fans, we hate you. Rockets fans hate you too. You know who you have to thank for that. No, I don’t hate you as a person.

Utah Suck!

by ortolan on Apr 18, 2010 1:26 AM MDT up reply actions

paranoia

conspiracies, hidden agendas….

go watch zeitgeist again… The Jazz are just a good basketball team. Get over it. When was the last time Jazz won the division? Hmmm? You telling me they get favorable treatment compared to say … the Lakers?

Anyway, I haven’t noticed the cheating over the years. I must be so used to it.

by Bouncy Phillips on Apr 18, 2010 1:52 AM MDT up reply actions

Whatever dude

It’s so obvious it’s not even funny. You think over the last 15 years I’ve been chillin at the Denverstiffs? Well, in some way, I suppose I have. Without the site “denverstiffs.com”. Man, pull your head out of your behind and understand that the Choir, the Jazz, have been flopping for years. They cheat and the NBA has always let them get away with it. Everybody knows it.

And fuck you and your zeitgeist reference man. Don’t fucking tell me the NBA ain’t corrupt. I have memories, not the games or even years of when those games were, but times endlessly you guys got the call on OBVIOUS bullshit. You’ve been trained to flop — hence the zeitgeist reference. Why do I care? I don’t have the slightest idea. I was born a Nuggets fan who also happens to love the music of Jazz.

I hate your choir. But love the state. And you fans suck. Worst in the country. More homer than anything ever. Is Colorado better? Fuck yeah it is. Do I live in CO? No I do not. But don’t fucking put words in the mouths of Nugs fans, man. Your team has lived on the flop for over about 20 years. They should rename the flop the “Sloan”.

Granted the Choir doesn’t flop or “sloan” as much as they used to — this is history we’re talking about. And I hate the fucking Choir. But love jazz. Also have no problem with anybody from Utah people.

Utah suck!

Nuggs in 4. Lets do it boys!

by ortolan on Apr 18, 2010 4:32 AM MDT up reply actions

Yeah I agree Lawson kills the Jazz!!

We know how to win this one. If its Melo’s focus or just the fact that the team is more prepared for a run, i think we are primed for a run, in fact i would bet on it!! But maybe I’m just optimistic! Nuggs over lakers in 6!!!

If the moon were made of spare ribs would you eat it?

On another note

K-mart looked great tonight, he is our x-factor, without him, we crumble, he is our most consistent player and the heart of this team, we gave him a lot of minutes tonight but only because I would be afraid to give Petro playing time in the playoffs unless we are up by 20 with 3 minutes to go.

The way its shaping up, in my opinion is that this will end in 5 games

STIFF LIST (as of 4/26 by Andrew Feinstein)

1. METTA WORLD PEACE

Metta resorted back to Ron Ron last Sunday by clubbing James Hardenwith an "inadvertent celebratory elbow", landing him a 7-game suspension. Apparently, changing his name didn't prevent NBA commissioner David Stern from overlooking Metta's past behavior problems.

2. CHARLOTTE BOBCATS

The 'Cats are on the verge of securing the worst winning percentage in NBA history. Given that the guy who runs the team - Michael Jordan - had previously drafted Kwame Brown and Adam Morrison, should this really be a shock?

3. OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER
The team that was supposedly built to overcome the lockout-shortened season managed to lose 7 of its last 14 games, ceding the Western Conference's 1-seed to the Spurs in the process. Their reward might be a first round matchup with defending champion Dallas.

4. BILLY HUNTER AND DEREK FISHER
With report after report coming out about NBPA union head Hunter's shady, nepotistic dealings and questions arising about Fisher's own role in dealing with NBA owners behind Hunter's back during the lockout, this off-the-court scandal could prove to be more exciting than the playoffs themselves!

5. STEVE NASH AND THE PHOENIX SUNS
The Suns are on this list for squandering the last few great seasons from Nash. Nash is on this list for his stupidly stubborn loyalty to a franchise as awful as the Suns.
