The Post's Benjamin Hochman is now reporting that Kenyon Martin "will miss an undetermined amount of time while undergoing platelet rich plasma (PRP) therapy. He plans to return this season, although perhaps not until the NBA playoffs."

The Post writers are ridiculous

Kmart needs to return at least a few games before the end of the regular season. It would be nice if he could be back for Dallas because we all know how huge he is against them. What a huge game too. I think he should schedule his return for the game before that if possible.

Curious indeed

He could be talking to someone close to Kenyon who is echoing his sentiments. The dude is a warrior. However if Kenyon has a torn tendon in his knee and forgoes the best option to safely recover, that’s just stupid.

I don't think Hochman...unlike Marc Spears, would run with this

if he didn’t have SOME idea it was true. He has to value whatever contact he has with the Nuggets and they don’t benefit with him running with shit that doesn’t have at least a GRAIN of truth.

+ he's an actual journalist

his sources are supposed to be confirmed. Truth in reporting.

off topic

@jpage78 – I think No One Came is one of Ian Gillan’s best performances.

GREAT news.

Hopefully Hochman knows what he’s talking about. As long as kmart is good for the playoffs, we will be fine. We need him most against teams like LA and Dallas in the second and third rounds.

by Cargo5 on Mar 8, 2010 4:30 PM MST reply actions

Why shouldn't we believe this?

It’s as legit as any other source. So yeah, encouraging news for our ferocious inside guy. Could be better, but it could be a lot worse, too. I think our March schedule (up until our last 3 games) is mild enough to withstand most of the games reasonably well.

by neumdaddy on Mar 8, 2010 4:44 PM MST reply actions

Yes!

Glad to hear it, but would like a little more confirmation than “sometime this season or the postseason”.

We love you Kenyon. Come back when you’re healthy.

Come on lucky sevens!

If this is the Nugs year, they’ll need him to lock-down on opposing PFs.

Sweet Jesus Let This Be True..

Positive news, but I will say again that the Nuggs Kmart at close to 100% to beat the Lakers and now the surging Mavs…

New detail added to Hochman's story

“Martin will receive platelet rich plasma therapy for his left knee patella tendonitis.”

Good news.

His knee will be problematic. I think resting him during most of the regular season is the best way to go. But so he stays fresh, games against Dallas and LA might be a good idea.

I really, really like K-Mart.

Great news if true

also if true, where does Spears live? Because I’m about to go on a witch hunt for his lying ass.

I'm not positive....

But I think he is based out of Boston now.

Don’t tell him I said that. He’s actually an A-OK guy. I sent him an e-mail about all this. I’ll let you know if I hear back.

Peace,

Silver lining search...

…Petro finds his niche and can turn the Nugs into a 9 man rotation team in playoffs.

by margabelle on Mar 8, 2010 6:43 PM MST reply actions

His minutes when he comes back should and will be cut drastically

Even in the early rounds of the playoffs GK will have to be careful with him. Also, KMart is not going to be nearly the double-double machine he had been pre-injury…hopefully he can play through that adequately.

on the other hand THANK GOODNESS!!!

by Uh on Mar 8, 2010 6:52 PM MST reply actions

Nuggets have the best 4-man big man rotation

In Denver.

KMart will start, but I like the fact that Petro is seeing more PT

Great news

I think Petro will do a good job filling in for K-Mart but we definatly can’t do much in the playoffs if Stone Hands is our starting C.

Then, when I'm done, all their little wizard wives came out and wanted me to have sex with them - which is kinda weird."

so does anyone know what Kmart has?

I take it it’s not a torn tendon like spears reported?

by Rainbow skyline on Mar 8, 2010 8:22 PM MST reply actions

never mind

missed it the first time-article says “knee patella tendinitis”. is that different from what he’s had all year?

in any case, another question: can we put Marc Spears on the stiff list for misreporting Martin’s injury and sending us all into a panic over the weekend?

by Rainbow skyline on Mar 8, 2010 8:31 PM MST up reply actions

This has been shown on nbatv

Kmart is getting treatment and should return before the playoffs. Really the best news I’ve had all day.

by wangstu13 on Mar 8, 2010 8:44 PM MST reply actions

I Love it!

I’ve read comments about not being a religious nutcase and slams against organized religion in general. But when K-Mart is revealed healthy I see aunch of “Prasie the sweet Lord” comments. I just find it funny. Andy & Nate have created the 1st Church of Stiffs…just don’t pass a collection plate.

by Joelsopinion on Mar 9, 2010 8:30 AM MST reply actions

Sounds like it is going to be cook as an outside shooter

and Petro playing more for the body in the middle of the paint. I just hope K-mart gets back soon so we don’t have to deal with Cook for too long!

by ColoradoAggie11 on Mar 9, 2010 10:24 AM MST up reply actions

I'd like Cook

He should help spread the floor for Melo, Billups, JR, and Lawson to get to the hole. He may even help in that way against the Lakers.

by Gasus on Mar 9, 2010 11:12 AM MST up reply actions

I think this might bad news

sounds like some new age therapy without a concrete timetable (2-3 weeks, for example). Reading between the lines, K-Mart is in a ton of pain and they don’t see anything that surgery would fix so they are trying this platelet thingy.

by margabelle on Mar 9, 2010 9:52 AM MST reply actions

New age is rather metaphysical, I thought..

This is NOT metaphysical…It’s physical and scientific…and I really hope successful!

Hate to say this

But this is probably a moral victory rather than one that will help in the playoffs. The man is seriously hurt and will provide some energy but I think his impact will be minimal through the long road that is the NBA’s second season.

by Pusherman on Mar 9, 2010 10:34 AM MST reply actions

Unfortunately I have to agree

Though in limited minutes KMart could still make an impact in the playoffs. Not as all-around awesome, but he should be pretty solid given ten to twenty minutes a game.

by Uh on Mar 9, 2010 2:06 PM MST up reply actions

I have a feeling that if KMart feels ready to play, he’s not going to settle for so few minutes

by Artimus Mangilord on Mar 9, 2010 2:11 PM MST up reply actions

I don't know

He’s one of the few players that listen’s to his body. If he can’t play all out, he won’t play at all.

by Joelsopinion on Mar 9, 2010 4:00 PM MST up reply actions

What about Lawson?

Haven’t heard anything on him. Is he expected to play on Wednesday?

STIFF LIST (as of 1/30 by Jeff Morton)

1. THE ORLANDO MAGIC
After starting the season so well with the Dwight Howard trade drama (10-3) - the Magic have fallen apart (2-5 since) with embarrassing losses to the Celtics (twice), Hornets, and Pacers. Trade Dwight already!

2. CHAUNCEY BILLUPS' FLOP VS. NUGGETS
In the waning seconds of Sunday's game against the Clippers, Chauncey pulled off an acting performance so good it deserved an Academy Award. If he was still a Nugget we would love it, but he's not. STIFF!

3. JIMMER FREDETTE
Dude, if you are going to take the game-winning shot, at least draw some iron: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mNO1goJOruQ

4. GEORGE KARL'S 4TH QUARTER AGAINST THE CLIPPERS
Getting out coached by Vinny Del Negro should be a nice wake-up call. Going away from Gallo. Leaving Al Harrington in. Using Rudy Fernandez at point guard. And going ultra small contributed to the Nuggets loss.

5. JEFF MORTON
For saying that the Nuggets would skimp on payroll and go cheap like the Avalanche. Clearly I was wrong and deserve to be on this Stiff List. I can only hope that the gods of basketball forgive me.
