Reasons to be encoraged: Weekly Pep Talk

Im going to do this every week because....well....we kind of skew negative here on Denver stiffs....

To get us started....here are two songs from completely opposite genre's of music

Megadeth - Tornado Of Souls (Live 1992) (via minigun664)

Ice Cube - It Was A Good Day (HD) (via ibiabou89)

Ok...now that you're all amped...let's count the reasons the Nugz should be encoraged

1. French fries:  Petro started last night and...well...he held it down alright. While he didn't set the gym afire he provided rebounding and size in the middle (as Andrew pointed out) and while he's a long way from good...he's not bad and that gave me encouragement going forward while Kenyon is out.

2. JR Assist: Remember last year when JR ran the point when he came in? I forgot that he is capable of dishing out the assists and quite frankly...he runs the point, at times, better than AC....IF he continues like this it's a revelation. I hope that he continues his semi restrained shootings sprees. Fingers crossed

3. Nene the Power Ranger....errr....forward: Even though Nene didn't have a spectacular game, he showed that he is able to "move" more freely as a 4 and it is, indeed, his natural position. Imagine if he was able to move there permanently...he's going to have to step it up big time while Kmart is out.

4. Dallas is peaking too early: Two things should be VERY disturbing to Mavs fans. First off they have timed their streak a weeeeeeeee bit too soon. No one can keep up the pace they are on for 30 games, and the market will correct itself. Two...Jason Terry's injury. They lost their JR Smith off the bench and that, long term. is going to affect them greatly. The Jazz (as has been pointed out in another thread) have cooled off a bit, and are now on a win one, lose one kind of streak. This will start with the Mavs as soon as they lose to an opponent they are supposed to beat.

5. Melo restored his energy: Nuff said. Melo has been efficient and passing the ball really well the last three games. The smile is becoming an assassins tool. When Melo starts smiling....you know you're about to get your ass beat.

Come on guys and girls.....we GOT this.

Cuz I gotta say it wuz a good day....

Write respectfully of your SB Nation community and yourself.

Really impressed...

with JR’s passing between defenders to Nene off the pick and roll.

"I know the game of basketball is one-on-one (oriented), but the pain of beating a defense by the pass — it confuses and frustrates the defense more than just going by a guy one-on-one." George Karl

If JR could be that consistent

then things will be great. I’m happy he’s been relatively restrained in his shooting as well

true dat

I’m hoping the light goes on over JR’s head and it finally clicks that he should keep doing things he’s consistently good at ….which is passing on the pick and roll to the bigs. If French Fries didn’t have stone hands then we’d have another threat.

We need KMart to win a championship

the season is riding on the news, good or bad, that we are waiting to hear today.

by margabelle on Mar 8, 2010 2:25 PM MST reply actions

Oh I'm sorry

I forgot that we are supposed to give up in the face of adversity. My bad. Oh hey, if Kenyon is down for the year….how about we put a lineup of AC, Petro, Allen, Balkman and JR out there for the rest of they year. Yeah? Sound like a good solution?

I see the light.

Just keeping it real...

Besides, when you’re a pessimist, all surprises are happy ones.

without kmart

he is the best at defending the pick and roll. he can guard players like kobe and dirk inside or outside one on one. he was leading the team with almost 10 rebounds per game. against portland denver had 4 offensive rebounds. i am not giving up. just wondering which nugget player is going to step up and do what kmart did.

And we didn't even have to (ab)use AK

Andrei Kirilenko, that is.

Another ace post my man. I got a feeling we’re about to see something special out of this team the next few weeks, particularly from JR & Nene. Just something about these guys – adversity/disrespect really seems to bring out the best in em.

by CraftyB on Mar 8, 2010 2:37 PM MST reply actions

No doubt

Here’s hoping Stephen A. Smith, Kenny, Barkley, and the two jerk offs from PTI all start dissin’ the Nuggets just before the playoffs. C’mon Kenny rattle the cage.

re: Dallas

I’m not so sure the law of averages will bite them very hard. They did outstandingly well at the trade deadline, and their schedule is a cakewalk compared to ours. Unless lots of things fall into place for the Nugs, I suspect Dallas to finish 2nd in the west.

by Ski Bum on Mar 8, 2010 2:41 PM MST reply actions

Yep

Agreed with jpage that it is very hard for a team to maintain such a high winning % for 30 some games, but unfortunately the Mavs are in pretty good position to do just that. They have an easy schedule coming up and have thus far shown no problems with bad teams the way the Nuggets did. They seem to have meshed pretty well, which is kind of unexpected given the huge number of players involved in the deal.

Oh yeah uh optimism…um…Petro!

by Uh on Mar 8, 2010 3:04 PM MST up reply actions

Yeah but

Haywood’s been struggling due to back issues, and no timeline yet for Damp. Who knows when they’ll get him back. I think Dallas drops 4-5 in the next week or so and allows Denver to retake the 2 seed.

Swats.

by BeefySwats on Mar 8, 2010 3:12 PM MST up reply actions

Dampier is a stiff of the highest order

Remember last year when Nene just made him irrelevant? Good god.

I think the Terry injury is going to hurt them quite a bit come playoff time.

by jpage78 on Mar 8, 2010 3:23 PM MST up reply actions

But won't he back in a week or two?

Granted that might hurt them short-term. But it doesn’t sound like a serious injury and Terry should be back in shape by playoffs, especially given how he plays off the bench.

by Uh on Mar 8, 2010 6:47 PM MST up reply actions

i think his glasses might affect him though

Shooters don’t usually like to have the glasses on and that is most of his game. If he was a banger inside it would be different, but he is not.

by ColoradoAggie11 on Mar 8, 2010 6:51 PM MST up reply actions

the issue with terry

will he be able to adjust playing with wearing a mask? rip hamilton still wears one years after his injury. most players have a hard time with it.

pick up a calf every day pretty soon you will be picking up a cow

by nohoops4u on Mar 8, 2010 7:03 PM MST up reply actions

Good points both of you

I guess I had forgotten he’d have to wear a mask. In that case, I hope he thinks he can shoot at his normal levels, only to take 20 shots a game in the playoffs and sink the Mavs’ chances. Optimism!

by Uh on Mar 8, 2010 7:07 PM MST up reply actions

just looked at dallas's remaining schedule

it is ghastly. besides 2 games in portland (tossups) they are going to be favored in EVERY game until the end of the season. I still like our chances against them in the playoffs, but the 3rd seed looks likely right now. the game at dallas is a must-win for the 2-seed.

Power Ranger

Another nickname for that tall guy in L.A.

First, Pau, Pau, Pau-erwheels

Now, I’ll also think Pau-er Rangers everytime I read his name.

Pau is too soft to be a power ranger

Keep the music coming

Always loved that Ice Cube track. I had a laugh remembering that line about the Lakers beating the SuperSonics.

I had the booz, she had the chronic, the Lakers beat the Supersonics, errr….Thunder.

Then, when I'm done, all their little wizard wives came out and wanted me to have sex with them - which is kinda weird."

That line

about just messing around and getting a triple double reminds of Melo, when he lets the game come to him.

melo's passing last night

to start the game was beautiful. got our offense going big time. melo was killin their double teams.

by 808inDenver on Mar 8, 2010 3:19 PM MST reply actions

Absolutely true.

Melo was dishing out assists AND scoring 30 points. Not a bad night for the smiling assassin.

The STIFF LIST (as of 7/26 by Nate)

STIFF #1: COLORADO ROCKIES
The Rox have lost eight of their last 10, including six in a row. During the six-game losing streak Colorado has been outscored 33-13 ... and they might soon be the reason by buddy Rory has a massive heart-attack. But there are still 63 games to go and an upcoming eight-game homestand is hopefully just what the team, and Rory, needs to turn things around.

STIFF #2: MINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES/DAVID KAHN
Replacing a 24 year-old point guard with a 29 year-old point guard is just a sound NBA move ... uh? Kahn handed Ramon Sessions a 4-year $16 million contract last offseason and just gave the same deal to Luke Ridnour this offseason. In order to make room for Ridnour, Kahn shipped Sessions and young big man Ryan Hollins off to the Cleveland Cavaliers for Delonte West (who is still facing weapons-possession charges). Maybe Ricky Rubio will get to the T-Wolves before Ridnour's contract expires, but don't count on it.

STIFF #3: TRACY MCGRADY
McGrady has been shopping his services this offseason and after getting nibbles from the Lakers, Clippers, and most recently the Bulls ... T-Mac is still without an employer. The 31 year-old guard, with a rich injury history, apparently is not ready to accept a reduced role. Will McGrady's stubborness land him on a lottery team where he'll try to prove he can still be "the man" or will he accept being a role player and wind up in Chicago gunning for that elusive title?

STIFF #4: DANNY AINGE
The Celtics did lose defensive ace Tony Allen to the Memphis Grizzlies, but re-signing Marquis Daniels to a one-year $2.5 million deal is a little crazy. Daniels should be thanking agent Mark Bartelstein ... maybe the rapper can sing his agent a song. (Daniels is in the yellow shirt in the video)

STIFF #5: NUGGETS SLEEPING ON SIZE
The Nuggets decided to bring back Anthony Carter on a one-year $1.3 million deal. Do the Nuggets really need a third point guard heading into training camp over another big body? Check out some names still on the free-agent market: Louis Amundson (yes he'll require more money), Fabricio Oberto, Kwame Brown, Anthony Tolliver, DJ Mbenga, Nathan Jawai, Josh Boone, Kyrylo Fesenko, and Joey Graham. Denver still has the bi-annual exception to spend ... so maybe there is still hope of grabbing somebody.
