ATTENTION NUGGETS FO: SIGN DWAYNE JONES NOW!!!

Dwayne Jones is putting up incredible numbers in the D-League (24-18 just this week), is long, athletic and physical, and does a lot of things that K-Mart does.  Why in the world would the Nuggs not sign this guy to at least a 10-day look??? Some other team is going to grab him and we are going to be sorry.  With the Nuggets talking knee surgery for K-mart, this is a no-brainer.

When it comes to no brainers...

we’ve got just the right guys for the job!

This would make way too much sense for our FO to act.
Sign the guy for 10 days and see if he fits for crying out loud!

M'agree-er!!

I’ve been pushing/pulling/dragging the Jones bandwagon for a while. I have no idea if his performance in the d-league would translate, but the guys a veritable beast. He is made to order for what the Nugs need. Perhaps he could get a 10-day stint with the local roller derby team in order to get on SK’s radar.

Any news on Kmart yet? What did Dr. Steadman come up with yesterday?

by Ski Bum on Mar 7, 2010 10:15 AM MST reply actions

Only if he gets minutes.

If he gets signed and GK ends up playing Malik Allen more, then it won’t help.

by Uh on Mar 7, 2010 11:24 AM MST reply actions

If we were to sign him and play Allen ahead of him, that would imply that they believe Allen to be the superior player. I have an extremely hard time believing that Allen would be even half as productive as Jones has been were he in the d-league. Maybe GK (or Dantley, for games he’ll be at the helm for), just maybe, they would feel the same way. Wishful thinking, given the hx.

Your comment also is underscored by our 8 player rotation, a plan that is working out just marvelously…for our competition, that is, as our bigs are getting overworked to the point of breakdown.

I sincerely hope that the FO and coaching staff is not so obtuse to ignore the reality, but all evidence so far suggests that they are.

I agree whole heartedly however

It’s apparent that Stan is only interested in lining his pockets at the fans expense and doesn’t give a rats ass about a championship.
With Kmart and TY out the window of opportunity for the gold ball this season is 3/4 shut.

that means it's still 1/4 open

here is my big question

if jones is so good why has he not been signed by another team already?

pick up a calf every day pretty soon you will be picking up a cow

from a writer at Sham Sports:

“I’m starting to think Dwayne Jones walks into workouts and shits all over GM’s desks. He should have had a multi year NBA career by now.”

http://www.ridiculousupside.com/2010/2/24/1324282/unsolved-mysteries-the-curious

Maybe he really does suck, and as a fan with an impending sense of doom, I’m just looking for something to address our glaring frontcourt depth dilemma. If Graham was part of the regular (NINE man) rotation, and if Johan got at least some minutes for his development, I would probably not feel this way.

Johan started tonight and has been a contributor, for example. I just wish it didn’t take grinding Bird and Kenyon into a pulp for him to get a chance. After 6 min or so, Johan told Maya Starks he was tired. If he got, say 4-8 min on a regular basis, that wouldn’t be the case.

Commercial over, back to the game…

Some Character Issues...

There have been some rumblings that Jones has has past “character” issues. I hear he has his life together and has a grown up a lot the last year. Chauncey would be a good influence on him…

There's a reason why Jones has not been signed by an NBA team

look at Dwayne’s NBA stats. They are absolutely horrible. More fouls than points per game, no assists, few blocks, good deal of turnovers. He shoots 50% from the field, but only 39% from the line. His per-36 minute stats are about twice as worse as Petro’s. I’ll pass.

Apparently, the Nugs also will pass on Jones

They’re signing uber stiff/benchwarmer/chucker/no D playing Brian Cook.

Go PRP therapy, KMart we NEED you!!!

Cmon, the Guy has Made HUGE Strides This Past Year

Even if all he does is play defense and rebound (of which he is a machine) its a win for the Nuggets. Petro has the slowest reactions in the League, is really soft, and is a foul magnet. How many time did Bayless take Petro to the rim only to be fouled AND score. Jones would have sent Bayless into the 3rd row…He is street tough…

by ACEIII on Mar 9, 2010 6:25 PM MST up reply actions

He has a bad worth ethic and fouls way too much

And his defense isn’t that good. And despite his athleticism, he averaged a paltry 1.2 blocks per 36 minutes in the NBA. As a comparison, Birdman is averaging over 3 blocks per 36 minutes.

The STIFF LIST (as of 7/26 by Nate)

STIFF #1: COLORADO ROCKIES
The Rox have lost eight of their last 10, including six in a row. During the six-game losing streak Colorado has been outscored 33-13 ... and they might soon be the reason by buddy Rory has a massive heart-attack. But there are still 63 games to go and an upcoming eight-game homestand is hopefully just what the team, and Rory, needs to turn things around.

STIFF #2: MINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES/DAVID KAHN
Replacing a 24 year-old point guard with a 29 year-old point guard is just a sound NBA move ... uh? Kahn handed Ramon Sessions a 4-year $16 million contract last offseason and just gave the same deal to Luke Ridnour this offseason. In order to make room for Ridnour, Kahn shipped Sessions and young big man Ryan Hollins off to the Cleveland Cavaliers for Delonte West (who is still facing weapons-possession charges). Maybe Ricky Rubio will get to the T-Wolves before Ridnour's contract expires, but don't count on it.

STIFF #3: TRACY MCGRADY
McGrady has been shopping his services this offseason and after getting nibbles from the Lakers, Clippers, and most recently the Bulls ... T-Mac is still without an employer. The 31 year-old guard, with a rich injury history, apparently is not ready to accept a reduced role. Will McGrady's stubborness land him on a lottery team where he'll try to prove he can still be "the man" or will he accept being a role player and wind up in Chicago gunning for that elusive title?

STIFF #4: DANNY AINGE
The Celtics did lose defensive ace Tony Allen to the Memphis Grizzlies, but re-signing Marquis Daniels to a one-year $2.5 million deal is a little crazy. Daniels should be thanking agent Mark Bartelstein ... maybe the rapper can sing his agent a song. (Daniels is in the yellow shirt in the video)

STIFF #5: NUGGETS SLEEPING ON SIZE
The Nuggets decided to bring back Anthony Carter on a one-year $1.3 million deal. Do the Nuggets really need a third point guard heading into training camp over another big body? Check out some names still on the free-agent market: Louis Amundson (yes he'll require more money), Fabricio Oberto, Kwame Brown, Anthony Tolliver, DJ Mbenga, Nathan Jawai, Josh Boone, Kyrylo Fesenko, and Joey Graham. Denver still has the bi-annual exception to spend ... so maybe there is still hope of grabbing somebody.
