Uh...

This was a “WTF?” that I didn’t care to see tonight. I’m hoping it ends in “WTF, whew.” instead of “ZOMGWTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

by neumdaddy on Mar 5, 2010 11:45 PM MST reply actions

The most WTF realization...

… even if he didn’t opt for surgery, that means he’d be playing at 60-65% for the rest of the season… God!

I can’t bear the thought of Nene and Birdman playing 37-39 mpg… why don’t someone bring the sledgehammer and shatter their knees right now? Playing them those many minutes is just the same as breaking their kneecaps now…

Congrats to FO for “TRYING” to acquire a big man… for TRYING to acquire Tyrus Thomas, Antonio McDyess, Big Ben, DeAndre Jordan (how awesome if he’s here)… “Yeah we tried to acquire a big man you know…” sounds just like “yeah we tried to win a championship you know..”

Sorry it’s either you did or you didn’t. There’s no moral story such as “tried”. If we don’t win a championship we can point it directly to the depth problem of frontcourt, although we knew this like before the season even started.

possible hope?

http://nba.fanhouse.com/2010/03/06/martin-in-dark-about-possible-knee-tear/

if there’s a knee tear, it’s hard to believe Kmart doesn’t know about it yet. guess we will find out soon.

Straight from the horses mouth

Tomasson knows whats up. This came out of nowhere today so to assume the worst already is premature

Im surprised Spears didnt sit on this till he had confirmation

Considering he knows most of the Nuggets personally youd think he’d be more careful

Time to face facts.

The Nuggets are a significantly worse team without Kenyon Martin and Ty Lawson. Yes, I’m glad we’re beating up the Indiana Pacers and Detroit Pistons of the league, now. But with the roadies we have to close out the month, where will our defensive intensity come from? Kenyon’s been pulling down incredible numbers for boards and been our team’s defensive quarterback. Ty Lawson’s speed is going to be sorely missed, and if Carter goes down we’re really screwed. It’s looking more and more likely that Lawson’s injury is potentially a Labrum tear, like Jeff Francis had.

I just don’t know if the Nuggets can make it to the WCF, if both Lawson and Kenyon are done; much less out of the first round.

At this point, I think it might be in the best interests of the players and the team if we just shut Lawson and Kenyon down for the remainder of the season, to at the very least give them ~6weeks to heal, and let ourselves fall – if we do – in the standings. Their careers and futures with the Nuggets are more important than a single 3rd-seed season.

lawson to play Wed

according to the Tomasson article. Claims its feeling much better, but will sit out tomorrow and Wed should be ‘definite’. Fingers crossed…

by Ski Bum on Mar 6, 2010 1:25 PM MST up reply actions

I hate to agree with you, but if KMart is hurt badly then yes, shut him down.

At this point, because it does look like KMart is hurt badly, we just have to pray that he will be ready by next season…

Knowing is half the battle

We gotta wait until Hochman and Tomasson confirm that shit.

by runningdonut on Mar 6, 2010 3:13 AM MST reply actions

I've got more trust in Spears word than...

Spears used to the be Nugs beat writer, still has the connections (probably better relationships than Hochman)… Spears has moved up in the world because he’s good.

I like Tomasson’s work but I really wonder about Hochman at times… Which is bigger:
The paycheck Hochman receives from the Post for being the Nuggets beat writer;
or
The paycheck Hochman secretly receives from the Nuggets for being their propaganga mouthpiece?

Inquiring minds want to know?

I know being a beat writer is a thankless job; but Dude, try to publish something objective and that doesn’t run identical to the team’s company line.

"I was here for Brown, Moe, Westhead & Bernie... what do you bring to the game?"
"Maxie Miner Rules"
"Remember the Alamo", "Remember the Maine", "Remember the Hunter Trade"

On beat writers

The Nuggets have a former beat writer already on staff to be their “propaganda mouthpiece”.

No need to pay Hochman or even Tomasson.

Trust me, I think both those guys do a great job covering the team. I don’t know Hochman, but his reporting is solid.

I will say that beat writers need the coaches and players to talk to them so that they can write a good story. This is always going to require delicate handling and sometimes and hands-off approach to more controversial storylines. But I think both Nuggets writers do a great job and have enough professional pride that they wouldn’t sit on a big story.

didn't you read that link above?

Martin said he’s not worried about it too much &
Ty will be back next Wens. so George will let him backup Carter!

I kinda like the idea of Ty backing up Carter actually because ya know Carter is doing pretty well right now and maybe its time to make some roster changes that can shake things up right before we go in the home stretch of the season.
I wonder if theres a way we could get Skita back, and then we could get
Diawara back and then we could ask Elson back and then convince A.I to come back…………..is there still time?

by InboundingLobPass on Mar 6, 2010 3:45 AM MST reply actions

Looking that way

Even being a forever “hopeful” fan on the title quest, I’ve felt the die was cast back in the fall when the team chose to go low dollar & cost cutting rather then build for the title run.

Going into the season:

  • The team has no depth
  • The team’s lack of size is a concern
  • Your superstar point guard has worn out late in the playoffs the last several years
  • Your bigs have an established history of injury problems; especially KMart and his knees
  • The rest of the league knows the secret to beating the Nuggets is to throw everybody at Melo and dare the rest of the team to beat you
  • Gotta say, yes LeBron is all that. but is there anybody else other than Shaq back in the day who takes more physical abuse than Melo?
  • Consistency is an issue with the team
  • The coach adamantly sticks to a 8man rotation the Entire year

What happens:

  • The team is tired
  • The team has injuries
  • The team, and specific players are still inconsistent
  • Billups has been overused and will likely run out of gas… again
  • Melo is beaten up
  • KMart’s knee is injured

It makes you want to smack the owner, front office & coach on the back of the head with a rolled up newspaper and yell “You’re not really surprised things are turning out this way”

I hate it I hate it I hate… but can anybody really say they didn’t see this coming?

Don't be doubters yet

Even IF he needs surgery and he’s lost for the season, it doesn’t mean the season is lost. You just gotta have faith in your team and believe they can top anything.

Sorry man

We will not beat the Lakers without KMart. I’m very optimistic about the Nugs chances this year but no KMart is a backbreaker

i hope its not that serious... and the fact that KMart sounded surprised by it is making me feel a lil better but still scared

the only thing i could see us do is start Petro against big teams and start graham/balkman against smaller teams
but knowing karl, hell just give malik allen 30 minutes…

When it rains, it pours....

If Kmart is done for the season, or even if he is 70% going into the playoffs, the Nuggs are toast. We talked about this from the beginning, without another solid big man, beating the Lakers in 7 games will be almost impossible. It’s a shame knowing Kmart’s and Nene’s history that the Front Office didn’t grab another solid big man. Last night fealt like a funeral at the Pepsi Center, and now I know why… By the way, Bird looks like he is playing on one leg. . though gutting through the pain, he’s not going to make it to the end of the season either by the looks if his hobbling and grimace.

Time to sign Dwayne Jones?

I don’t care if he sucks, he’s gotta be better than Mikki Moore, Mark Blount, or Brian Cook.

From Rotoworld:

Kenyon Martin was surprised by a Yahoo! Sports report that he has a partially torn left patella tendon.

“I don’t know where [the writer] got that from,‘’ Martin said after Friday’s game. “It’s a little more than tendinitis, but I don’t know if it’s torn.” He expects to hear the results of his MRI on Saturday.

hes going to see some vail surgeon soon

http://www.nba.com/nuggets/news/nugs_pacers_20100306.html

"I’m going to talk to Dr. Steadman and see what he says," Martin said after sitting out Friday night’s 122-114 victory over the Indiana Pacers. "It’s still up in the air. I don’t want to speculate. I don’t want to say something it could be and (then) it’s nothing. We’ll see in the next day or two."

Ugh

Not time to panic, but certainly time to be worried. Kinda makes passing up Dejuan Blair a bit more troubling…although had we drafted Blair we would have set some NBA record with “most big men that have had a history of knee problems,” with Nene, KMart, Birdman, and Blair. But hey, the Nuggets have inquired about Mark Blount and Mikki Moore!…

Just thinking about those names made me puke. I’d rather see Joey Graham get 30 minutes per game at PF, with Malik Allen and Petroman getting 5 each.

We just need a productive bit who can help out Nene and Bird.

If Rob Kurz were taller...

GK likes Kurz’s playing style, but he’s about the size of Linas Kleiza.

Here's a wild thought....

IF Kmart is out….AND if the Nuggets fail to sign a big….would they consider using Petro at center and moving Nene to 4….then sprinkling Graham in to spell Nene.

We all know Karl won’t play Balkman….so maybe this is a “worst case” solution

STIFF LIST (as of 1/30 by Jeff Morton)

1. THE ORLANDO MAGIC
After starting the season so well with the Dwight Howard trade drama (10-3) - the Magic have fallen apart (2-5 since) with embarrassing losses to the Celtics (twice), Hornets, and Pacers. Trade Dwight already!

2. CHAUNCEY BILLUPS' FLOP VS. NUGGETS
In the waning seconds of Sunday's game against the Clippers, Chauncey pulled off an acting performance so good it deserved an Academy Award. If he was still a Nugget we would love it, but he's not. STIFF!

3. JIMMER FREDETTE
Dude, if you are going to take the game-winning shot, at least draw some iron: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mNO1goJOruQ

4. GEORGE KARL'S 4TH QUARTER AGAINST THE CLIPPERS
Getting out coached by Vinny Del Negro should be a nice wake-up call. Going away from Gallo. Leaving Al Harrington in. Using Rudy Fernandez at point guard. And going ultra small contributed to the Nuggets loss.

5. JEFF MORTON
For saying that the Nuggets would skimp on payroll and go cheap like the Avalanche. Clearly I was wrong and deserve to be on this Stiff List. I can only hope that the gods of basketball forgive me.
