Weekly Optimism: Back from the Dead!
I took last night's loss hard. No more! Cue the music!!

I love Blur!!
Anyway. After some serious thought...it occurred to me that I have way overreacted to this loss. The nuggets have a very legit chance to get to 53 or 54 wins. 5 of the next 7 are at home. The Lakers game doesn't scare me because they will have things tied up by that point. OKC is the crap shoot game to get us to 54 wins.
Listen....after last night I was feeling like this:
Garbage Day! (high quality) (via BrunoMe)
But upon reflection it dawned on me that Dallas will probably drop a few more games to teams that they should beat because, well, they're Dallas. Last night was their Super Bowl against a team on the back end of a back to back and a 5 game....horrific road trip...with Kenyon Martin out. Not a real reflection of the Nuggets capabilities.
Reasons for Optimism:
1. Joey Graham on Dirk Nowitzki: LACK was 100% right. Graham was the the perfect person to put on Dirk. If we can get Graham more minutes at PF (albeit as small PF) then I have more hope.
2. Ty Lawson: Finally we get to see the Ty Lawson pre-injury. It was great to see. Difference making. Bolting down the court. Dallas had no answer for him.
3. Melo and Chauncey can't play any worse than they did last night. Nuff said
4. 5 of the next 7 at home
5. Possibility of Kenyon coming back for the playoffs
6. George Karl's improved health.
Grasping a straws? Maybe. I know some are on a crusade to turn Melo into an oversized point guard who never shoots. That's not the solution. The Nuggets are stuck in what seems to be the most negative mindset I've seen them in....well....since maybe the Lakers series in 08. AD is not a motivator and he seems lost at times. Getting home against a team they've handled pretty well this year (Portland) may well be what the doctor ordered. Otherwise it will be this:

Dude, I love you optimism.
After some of your comments in the recap? I thought for sure we lost the last sane voice on this site that is perpetually filled with negativity. Nuggets had a hard schedule over the whole month of March. Here’s to turning things around in April.
Go Nuggets!!!

Thanks NuggetsLife
After last night I figured I was doomed to join the gloomy gusses on this site…but I found my mojo.

It was a bad slump, yes, but it ended last night. Believe it.

I agree
this is the most frusturated the team has looked since the 08 series w/ the Lakeshow. I refuse to believe that in a 2week span this team can go from contender to pretender. We need to make it through the rough patch and get to the playoffs as healthy as can be. I don’t know about all of you, but I got the feeling in last nights game that the Nuggs could take Dallas. Even though our team played horrible, it seemed that we had a shot. Lets see how it goes once this team gets some rest, gets some players back, and most of all starts to believe in itself againg. Don’t forget, in the playoffs, no team plays back to back. For all of the Dallas players and fans yucking it up, I still just get this feeling that the nuggs can handle em w/ all things equal.
Dallas doesn't....and never will....scare me.
Two words. Dirk Nowitzki. As long as the offense of the Mavs goes through him they won’t win a championship. Look what Joey Graham did to him….Imagine a series with both Kenyon and Graham beating up Dirk….
This was Dallas taking advantage of a Negative…TIRED….team. That’s all. Let’s see how the Nuggets do at the start of this homestand.

Lack just so it's in a public place
I am totally shoving my words into my mouth about Petro guarding Dirk: to make it explicitly clear, I was 100% wrong and you were 100% right about putting Graham on Dirk instead.
Petro is still too raw and too young to play without fouling and Graham did a much better job on Dirk than he did.
There. I said it. :p

Everyone is giving up yet they don’t understand how tough of a trip that was… fellas getting back up to the 2 is just as easy as losing it… I’m not worried even if Denver gets the 5 seed… as long as Martin and GK are back Denver will be just fine!

reading some of the other threads I'm kinda startled
We are Nuggets FANS right?? We don’t actively hate our team do we?

GK done with treatments this Friday
http://mylifeline.org/georgekarl/
We are sitting in one of his familiar rooms at the hospital getting fluids – and found out that he will be done with his treatments this Friday so we are very excited about the news. I asked him while we were sitting here what his thoughts are and he said he wants everybody to go have a party for him- we are still not sure what the future holds for the recovery process but he knows he doesn’t have to get his face burnt everyday. We have some serious hurdles to overcome but we are looking forward to the challenge. Thanks for all the love and support it has been incredible.

Finally got Ty Lawson back
It just can’t be overstated how important that is as the first step towards getting this team back. Keeping him on the bench made things harder than they should have been. The starters have clearly worn down at this point, it’s easy to look at their struggles and say “why don’t you do more” while they are missing their coach and one of their counterpart captains on defense.
Getting Ty back, putting Anthony Carter to sleep and losing all of these tough games can be the first steps in this team taking charge of their fate and accepting who they are without Kenyon and GK. Is it a bad deal? Maybe, but they must stop acting like this is a bad dream that’s going to end when K-Mart and GK ride in with the cavalry at some unknown future date. They are playing a game and trying to win. The only way to move forward is to start a new journey, rebuild the trust and find a new way to play for each other. I don’t think we are going to get Kenyon or GK back for the playoffs. There are real life circumstances beyond the game that nobody can control. These guys have to approach it like that or they won’t be able to grasp what they have to do.
I can’t even begin to tell you how cool that Blur song was when it was played during and after the Avalanche Stanley Cup winning game 7 against New Jersey in 2001. And yes, I was there.
I hope the slump is over. I still think this team, even without K-Mart and GK, can beat anyone if they pull their heads out of their arses.
Jibbles is an older man so you can trust what he says.
i'd rather the Nuggets slip to the 6 seed and play Utah
than stay at the 5 and play Phoenix
a healthy Denver team lost to Phoenix twice, and the one Denver win was a huge comeback late in the game.
agreed
but hell, 3rd, or even 2nd, isn’t impossible. i expect the suns to cool down soon, and the mavs and jazz are way too inconsistent for me to say “shit, we’re stuck down here.”
to be honest though, the problems against the suns aren’t that they match up badly, it’s that the nuggs just fall into the trap of trying to outgun the suns. that, and the sissy-ass zone the suns throw out there that this team has serious issues solving.
i’m still holding out hope. this team just happened to hit a wall at a really bad time. but our problems (save for AD’s deficiencies) are all resolvable and will fix themselves with time. billups and afflalo will find their shots sooner than later. melo will go back to his high-scoring and efficient ways. nene will stop being so soft (or maybe not) lawson is back. carter is finito (hopefully tacos can join him)
i believe. they just need go out there and prove this optimism isn’t unfounded. the rest of the schedule is home-heavy. they have to hold down homecourt, and go and get some wins on the road. if this team can get any momentum going into the playoffs (and hopefully the division title and HCA while we’re at it), they’ll be back to where they were last season, and hopefully even further.

The road trip hurt
It was disappointing, but somewhere among the losing something else happened, the Nuggets clinched a spot in the playoffs. This team is talented enough to play and beat anyone in a 7 game series, not saying they will but they can, therefore the simple fact that we’re in the tourney means we have a shot to win it all
Why live life on the edge, when you can jump off?
I agree witht the optimism
I think that the Nuggets started playing much better in the last two games than the first three. I think that we could have beat both the Magic and the Mav’s if not for things that might not happen again. JJ Reddick(6) getting more free throws than Melo (4) and Chauncey(0)? Ya I don’t think that will happen again. Melo and Chauncey shooting 6-30? Ya don’t think that will happen again. The team played hard in both games and fought back! That has been missing.
Obviously other stuff needs to be fixed (Hello interior defense and closing out on three-point shooters!), but I feel that the Nuggets are primed to go into the post season on a nice streak, win the NW division, get the 2nd or 3rd seed, and play the Lakers in the conference finals! Go Nuggets!
Apr 1 Portland W if they don’t win this one then my optimisim is about done haha!
Apr 3 LA Clippers W They dont have Baron Davis and just barely beat the Rockets to end their 11 game road losing streak
Apr 7 @ Oklahoma City
Apr 8 LA Lakers
Apr 10 San Antonio
Apr 12 Memphis
Apr 13 @ Phoenix

Stupid post didn't let me finish my schedule
Apr 7 @ Oklahoma City L I have a feeling that we lose this one
Apr 8 LA Lakers W I think they have nothing to play for and will be resting some key players (Phil doesn’t care about losing in the regular season)
Apr 10 San Antonio W we have beat the spurs pretty good and need to send a message in case we play them in the post season
Apr 12 Memphis W Grizz are on the road with their chances at playoffs gone they are planning which island they are going to in a couple of days
Apr 13 @ Phoenix L We just cannot figure out that dang zone!

What zone?
They don’t play “zone offense” and they don’t play much defense,
"Left hand, right hand, it doesn't matter. I'm amphibious." - Charles Shackleford
"He’s a stiff." - The Legendary Doug Moe
"We have a great bunch of outside shooters. Unfortunately, all our games are played indoors." - Weldon Drew
"I really didn't want it, but now that I've won it, it's nice. It's an honor. It's nice to know people don't think you're a total idiot. ... It must have been a poor year for coaches." - Doug Moe...talking about winning 1987-88 Coach of the Year award.
"Keep your head up and don't let anything get to you." - Dante Bichette Jr.
The zone defense that makes our players think they can just shoot over the defense
Unfortunately we are not that great of outside shooting team as most of our offense comes from the pain and free throws usually. granted sometimes we shoot lights out from outside but that is not our game.

Was just looking at the Mavs schedule....they COULD
potentially lose their next three games.
At Memphis then Home for Orlando and OKC….
Fingers crossed

I want 7-0, and the 2nd seed.
Because in Denver, people shouldn’t ever give up…
Or make it Colorado or whatever…
I accept BS’s apology (don’t feel like going up there to post a reply)

I’m going to be more positive from here on out. Nuggets can still win the second seed!!!

I'm kinda hoping for the third seed at this point.
Yes we would play either the Thunder or the Spurs….but just imagine if Dallas had to play OKC and the Jazz had to play the Suns….

jazz playing the suns would be TERRIFIC
When you were a baby in your crib, your father looked down at you, he had but one wish, that you would grow up to be a man. Well, look at you now. You just got your asses WHUPPED by a bunch of god damn nerds. NERDS!!
trying to be positive
but seeing all these teams ahead of us racking up wins (phoenix beat the nets, dallas barely survived against memphis and utah is pummeling GS) is extremely frustrating. this team’s slump couldn’t have come at a much worse time. it just pisses me off realizing that it’s the fault of this team that they’re in this position. i don’t think you could say that for any other team in the league (probably my homer vision) this team has shot itself in the foot so many times this season, and now it’s finally caught up to them.
the 3rd seed seems really optimistic, borderline delusional at this point. both utah and phoenix are on fire and don’t look to be slowing down anytime soon. it’s going to take a lot of things to fall our way at this point, but we’ve got to do our part, and that’s win some games, no matter who is on the other side.
and yes
i realize that was a total 180 from my stance just a couple posts above. funny how another day and another perspective changes things.
whatever. let’s go nuggets!
