Thuggets Nation Season Two Shirts

Since we don't have any of the new shirt designs up on the site yet, I thought I'd post them up here in the meantime. Someone ordered a couple "Swish Is Sweet" shirts from the last post (thanks Amanda!) by emailing us at info@thuggetsnation.com, so if anyone would like any of the new styles, be sure and do the same and we'll get 'em out right away. The shirts are $19.95 each and are available in Medium, Large and X-Large. Support your Nuggets as we get ready for the playoffs! Above is the "Denver Dream Team" with yellow screen on Navy Blue Tee. We got a few more surprises coming soon too so stay tuned...

"In Bird We Trust".

Money Green Screenprint on White Tee.

"Obey Nene".

White, Blue and Yellow Screen on Black Tee.

"Swish Is Sweet".

Maroon Swisher Sweet Color Screenprint on White Tee. And of course you can still get your "Melo Hope" and "Thuggets" Tees as always on www.thuggetsnation.com.

Write respectfully of your SB Nation community and yourself.

Yeah

None of the new ones have anything on the back. I understand it doesn’t appeal to everyone.

+100

hopefully they didnt preprint a shit load. Pretty fail if you ask me

by RPN on Mar 17, 2010 7:46 PM MDT up reply actions

Thankfully no we didn't.

There’s only 20 of these in existence. 17 left actually. The next round will be a much larger print (the screenprinter fucked up) and we’ll fix that.

And for the haters, I’d rather try something and “fail” than do nothing and make fun of people online.

idk

maybe have like ‘spellcheck’ on the front with his picture and on the back have a checklist that’s like:

smothering D check
open 3 check
kobe stopper check

i’m sure you can think of something better though

Nice

The Nene one is sweet. You should make an Afflalo one too

How much does Melo get paid for each of those Melo T-shirts you sell?
How much does Nene get paid for each of those Nene T-shirts you sell?
What about NBA royalties?

Point being that the whole thing doesn’t look like it is on the up and up to me. You are probably going to need a good lawyer somewhere down the line.

I think that equals Pi, but i went to DPS so whatever.

by Joelsopinion on Mar 18, 2010 10:31 AM MDT up reply actions

I don't think so

Appears they use a player’s likeness in some cases, their names’ in most, but they’re not using licensed logos like Jerry West’s silhouette or the Nuggets emblem. Where’s joelsopinion with his lawyer-speak when you need him…

by Artimus Mangilord on Mar 18, 2010 10:02 AM MDT up reply actions

The use of the player's liknesses has to be

done through either the individual player or the NBPA (National Basketball Players Association). Since I’m not seeing the NBPA logo anywhere, I’d say these are borderline illegal, especially the one with Nene’s picture. (clearly his likeness) The others don’t have a picture, and I doubt Anderson has a trade-mark on “Bird-man”.

The shirt with all the first names is interesting. You clearly know the team. By using all the names, it might be illegal. If some have trade-marked their names trade-marked (I’m guessing “Melo” is) then yeah, it needs to be licensed.

Well, well, well

It looks like we have ourselves a big city lawyer, with his fancy suit and soled shoes, trying to educate us with his slicked back hair and tooth filled smile.

I just play one on TV

though I have had my own “dances” with licensing for t-shirts (NCAA and they have a hard on for unlicensed stuff)

"You have been banned from the Purple Row, for Inappropriate conduct, profanity, (&) telling site authors their articles are crap."

by Redhawk on Mar 18, 2010 10:49 AM MDT up reply actions

Yeah

There will always be some rich person, telling a young upstart, that he can’t make money unless someone richer makes money too.

It’s kind of like organized crime. If Christopher Muldinado makes 5,000k a month selling smack, you better believe that Tony Soprano, and Uncle Jr. are taking the lion’s share. It’s funny, when it’s done under the guile of government it’s ok, but if a couple of thugs do it, it’s illegal activity.

by Joelsopinion on Mar 18, 2010 11:37 AM MDT up reply actions

I was thinking the same thing.

Unless their nicknames are copy written materials then there is no case for infringment. Maybe the Nene shirt is over the line, only because his face (likeness) appears on the shirt. Furthermore nowhere on the clothing is the Denver Nugget logo, or the NBA logo present.

It would be like Obama trying to press charges against those tea baggers, I mean tea party-ers for their NOBAMA t-shirts…Not gonna happen.

Also if the glove doesn’t fit you must aquit. Is that lawyer-speak sufficient to your liking?

by Joelsopinion on Mar 18, 2010 10:23 AM MDT up reply actions

Yeah, that's sufficient

Ol’ Artimus doesn’t know about book readin’ or how to eat at a fancy restaurant but he sure as heck isn’t dumb! Heck, I’ve been called dirty, lazy, smelly, shifty, kooky, spooky & Chinese but one thing I ain’t never been called is dumb!

by Artimus Mangilord on Mar 18, 2010 11:18 AM MDT up reply actions

It’s funny, because the Nene print obviously plays off the whole Obey Giant brand that artist Sheperd Fairey started. Fairey is the same guy who created the iconic red/white/blue Obama print, which he was sued for by, I think, the AP for unlicensed use of their original photograph of Obama on which his print was based. Not sure how that ever played out in court, but it seemed like a coincidental parallel to this.

Anyway, I like the shirts. I’d like to see a K-Mart shirt added to this lineup. I’ve got a shirt a friend made when A.I. joined the team that says “THUGGETS” on the front, “DENVER ON THE RISE” on the back, and then has K-marts “flesh of my flesh, blood of my blood” tat on the arm with his kid’s face. I love it, but don’t care much for the implication of “Thuggets”.

There's another group that has layed claim to the rainbow

and fear of misassociation keeps me from buying a shirt with a rainbow and the word STIFF on it.

Are you making fun of

The city flag of Cusco, Peru?

I was there back in Novembe and our city tour guide Juan was rather animate about confusing the Cusco city flag with that of any other group, or movement. “Please do not even make comparisons,” he said “That has nothing to do with the ancient city of the Inca people.” He kind of had a tear in the corner of his eye…I lauhed a little at his passion.

Playing defense.

You know, we make these shirts because we are fans. We’re not making any money doing this, if anything we’ve lost money (of course that’s not even counting the $6,500 I shell out for season tickets every year). Making the web site, the designs, the shirts, putting photos on our blog (http://thuggetsnation.wordpress.com/) from the games for readers to enjoy… We’re just trying to break even at this point, and make some cool shirts for people to wear to the games and around town to support the team.

And yes, we’re working on an AAA shirt and a K-Mart shirt (and Chauncey too, that one’s gonna be sick), we just need to sell a few more so we can re-invest. Believe me, I’d love to print on American Apparel tees but they are really expensive.

And by the way, Melo loves these shirts. He has a couple in his closet and even showed them on MTV Cribs. He’s a homie, not an uptight, sue-happy chump.

You know I posted these here because I was hoping to connect with fellow fans and stoke some people out, and for the most part, it seems you guys like what we’re doing. So for that, I thank you. If not, too bad. You know, the more time I spend reading blogs and so-called “fan sites”, the more I realize the true fans aren’t the ones that go online to bitch about someone’s crappy play last night or one of Coach Karl’s bad decisions. They’re the ones cheering their hearts out from the 300 level. They’re sitting in sports bars yelling at the television set, or watching at home with their friends and families, rooting on their team through thick and thin. They don’t care about trade rumors or salaries or stats. They just love their team, no matter what. Melo’s ball-hogging, J.R.‘s wild shots, K-Mart’s overpaid knees… it doesn’t matter. Those are the fans we made the shirts for, and those are the fans I hope find us and wear them with pride.

Rant over and out.

I wasn’t saying the shirts were stupid just that I hope the name screwup was caught. If I had money to burn I’d snag a JR and Bird, not sadly money is tight

by RPN on Mar 18, 2010 6:05 PM MDT up reply actions

Hey I hope you don't get the impression that us Stiffs aren't true fans

We love this team. We can root for the team and care about trade rumors and salaries and stats, they’re not mutually exclusive. All of us, if we care enough to devote time to following a sports blog, are obviously big Nuggets fans.

Anyway, the shirts look pretty good (the Birdman one is probably best in the bunch whenever you get the Andersen fixed)…it’s really cool for you to do this, I know I’m looking forward to seeing what you come up with for the AA shirt in particular, since there’s obviously a lot of different things you can do with that.

by Uh on Mar 18, 2010 7:07 PM MDT up reply actions

Yeah I get it.

Sorry if I sounded too defensive in my response. I know you guys are true fans, and I love all the posts on this site. We’ve sold quite a few shirts since I posted this, so I guess people are seeing the blog here and checking out our site and blog. Thanks to all the Stiffs for the support! Go Thuggets ;)

P.S. How about making a “Win It For George” shirt and we can donate some of the proceeds to cancer research?

The STIFF LIST (as of 7/26 by Nate)

STIFF #1: COLORADO ROCKIES
The Rox have lost eight of their last 10, including six in a row. During the six-game losing streak Colorado has been outscored 33-13 ... and they might soon be the reason by buddy Rory has a massive heart-attack. But there are still 63 games to go and an upcoming eight-game homestand is hopefully just what the team, and Rory, needs to turn things around.

STIFF #2: MINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES/DAVID KAHN
Replacing a 24 year-old point guard with a 29 year-old point guard is just a sound NBA move ... uh? Kahn handed Ramon Sessions a 4-year $16 million contract last offseason and just gave the same deal to Luke Ridnour this offseason. In order to make room for Ridnour, Kahn shipped Sessions and young big man Ryan Hollins off to the Cleveland Cavaliers for Delonte West (who is still facing weapons-possession charges). Maybe Ricky Rubio will get to the T-Wolves before Ridnour's contract expires, but don't count on it.

STIFF #3: TRACY MCGRADY
McGrady has been shopping his services this offseason and after getting nibbles from the Lakers, Clippers, and most recently the Bulls ... T-Mac is still without an employer. The 31 year-old guard, with a rich injury history, apparently is not ready to accept a reduced role. Will McGrady's stubborness land him on a lottery team where he'll try to prove he can still be "the man" or will he accept being a role player and wind up in Chicago gunning for that elusive title?

STIFF #4: DANNY AINGE
The Celtics did lose defensive ace Tony Allen to the Memphis Grizzlies, but re-signing Marquis Daniels to a one-year $2.5 million deal is a little crazy. Daniels should be thanking agent Mark Bartelstein ... maybe the rapper can sing his agent a song. (Daniels is in the yellow shirt in the video)

STIFF #5: NUGGETS SLEEPING ON SIZE
The Nuggets decided to bring back Anthony Carter on a one-year $1.3 million deal. Do the Nuggets really need a third point guard heading into training camp over another big body? Check out some names still on the free-agent market: Louis Amundson (yes he'll require more money), Fabricio Oberto, Kwame Brown, Anthony Tolliver, DJ Mbenga, Nathan Jawai, Josh Boone, Kyrylo Fesenko, and Joey Graham. Denver still has the bi-annual exception to spend ... so maybe there is still hope of grabbing somebody.
