National Media- Embrace the Hate

Happened to catch a bit of PTI today- which in my opinion is one of the worst shows on television- and saw this segment about JR's 360 alley-oop dunk last night. Wilborn and Kornheiser were arguing whether the dunk was showboating on the part of JR and alluding that this was another example of the Nuggets being immature, self motivated, and incapable of being a team in serious contention. It was a hell of a play by JR going up and getting that ball and throwing it down. It got me out of my seat texting my friends saying 'oh my god that was insane'

We all know this song and dance by ESPN and the experts. I'm not going to argue JR and the other Nugs don't act immature and self motivated in the coarse of a game, its the NBA, everybody acts that way all the time. I'm so sick of the national perception that ESPN is creating of the nuggets. Other teams act the same way, show disrespect for opponents, show boat and nothing is said to discredit them as a team. Lebron acts that way and the analyst are down on all fours. And while I'm angry with this perception of our Nuggets, we all know it ain't gonna change. That being the case-

After the Melo hit the game winner in Cleveland Labron turned face and headed straight to the locker room. I guess he was reliving his east finals departure last year as he gave no “good game” jesture to the Nuggets. Talk about immature and self motivated. But No mention of this was ever on ESPN.
Side note
I’d get ESPN or TNT tattooed on my forehead if there’s ever a game in which Labron’s name isn’t mentioned during the broadcast when Cleveland isn’t playing.

"I know the game of basketball is one-on-one (oriented), but the pain of beating a defense by the pass — it confuses and frustrates the defense more than just going by a guy one-on-one." George Karl

Say it loud!

Embrace the hate! Wilbon is so far up Kobe and Lebron’s asses I don’t know where they start or he ends. It’s part of ESPN’s policy of pumping the Lakers and the Cavs (and the NBA’s for that matter)….Kornheiser is a clown anyway.

More fuel to the fire

Embrace the hate!

smith looked like he had done it before

earl has overreacted a bunch of times when he has made 3 point shots. the way he kept a straight face running back down the court was almost as good as the dunk itself. the interview after the game was great too. earl was asked to describe the shot and the first words out of his mouth was it was a bad pass from chauncey. you could hear the whole locker room bust out laughing. this dunking and passing business is almost as much fun as forcing up an ill timed 3 point shot. win one for the gipper and 360 slam one for george. who gives a flying rats behind what some national media whore has to say. coach karl had to like it and that is the only thing that counts.

What?

I just listened to most of the internet version of yesterday’s PTI. The only relevant mention I heard was a good/bad cop segment, in which both commentators said JR’s dunk wasn’t excessive. In fact, it was said that it would have been a turnover except for an amazingly athletic move by JR.

There is no reason to fabricate Nugget persecution by the national media. All of us can cite a number of legitimate examples. Unless, there’s more to this, I think it’s just looking for a reason to complain. If you are referring to a different segment, please clarify for me.

Thats what I heard too...

And doofus playing bad cop refused to disparage the play, it was so impressive. I thought, wow, the Nugs actually getting kudos from espn blatherers, how about that!

thanks for some coolheaded thought.

and you’re right, with examples as plentiful as they are there’s no need to go making shit up

^Needs explaining: don't call someone asking uncomfortable, slightly antagonistic questions trolls. In all odds they probably just want to learn. It's real easy to differentiate a 'Socratic' post from a trolling one (unless you're a resident of WCG).
^Needs further explaining: I have yet to post anything on WCG, don't worry, I'm not trying to rationalize anything I've done. I've just lurked over there and man, they are the model of post-peloponnesian war Athens.

look at where smith lands AFTER he dunks

had he not dunked the ball smith would have landed out of bounds. the most amazing part of the dunk was his fingers never left his hands.

by nohoops4u on Mar 12, 2010 4:58 AM MST reply actions

That’s been the problem with the dunk contest the past few years. ALL of the guys fingers are always leaving their hands. Makes it too easy. JR was able to keep his fingers on his hands and still dunk the ball. (/sarcasm)

by BrianD on Mar 12, 2010 8:27 AM MST up reply actions

I would have been much more amazed had his fingers left his hands. Amazed, and very worried with this teams current injuries.

(Not sure exactly what you meant, but I just thought that was a funny sentence).

I agree, that PTI segment was stupid. Well, same goes for PTI in general

But jpage78 has a FanPost about ¨embracing the hate¨ too…and it´s more comprehensive than your´s.

"Left hand, right hand, it doesn't matter. I'm amphibious." - Charles Shackleford
""He’s a stiff." - The Legendary Doug Moe
"We have a great bunch of outside shooters. Unfortunately, all our games are played indoors." - Weldon Drew
"I really didn't want it, but now that I've won it, it's nice. It's an honor. It's nice to know people don't think you're a total idiot. ... It must have been a poor year for coaches." - Doug Moe...talking about winning 1987-88 Coach of the Year award.
"We're just tough, man" - Chauncey Billups

wait....guys

PTI didn’t say anything bad about JR’s dunk.

WIlbon said it was amazing. Tony was supposed to be the “bad cop” and say something bad about it. And then he said “I can’t.”

They both talked about how great of a play it was because he took a turnover and made it into a highlight.

wait

So they let Kornheiser come back to work already? Has it been the 2 or 3 weeks or whatever since he went all Joan Rivers on Hannah Storm?

by ParkHillNative on Mar 12, 2010 12:25 PM MST reply actions

Could some one fill me in on the backstory?

I mean with Tony K and Hannah. I don’t really care about Kornhesier, I find him an insufferable and obnoxious bore, but I have a crush on Hannah and I want to know if he said anything that involves me punching him at a later date to defend her honor.

Also: Sage Steele makes mornings on ESPN great.

I'm used too the media hatin on our Nuggets

And I sincerely hope that we start peaking come playoff time, with all our assets near 100 percent(we know Kmart will be playing through injury). We then dispatch the Lakers on our home floor, before beating the Lebrons. I want these teams to hate us, I want that respect. Dish it out Espn, TNT. The Nuggets thrive on adversity, and if we see the Thugget s brand style of ball start being more prevelent in the playoffs we will earn that respect.

The STIFF LIST (as of 7/26 by Nate)

STIFF #1: COLORADO ROCKIES
The Rox have lost eight of their last 10, including six in a row. During the six-game losing streak Colorado has been outscored 33-13 ... and they might soon be the reason by buddy Rory has a massive heart-attack. But there are still 63 games to go and an upcoming eight-game homestand is hopefully just what the team, and Rory, needs to turn things around.

STIFF #2: MINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES/DAVID KAHN
Replacing a 24 year-old point guard with a 29 year-old point guard is just a sound NBA move ... uh? Kahn handed Ramon Sessions a 4-year $16 million contract last offseason and just gave the same deal to Luke Ridnour this offseason. In order to make room for Ridnour, Kahn shipped Sessions and young big man Ryan Hollins off to the Cleveland Cavaliers for Delonte West (who is still facing weapons-possession charges). Maybe Ricky Rubio will get to the T-Wolves before Ridnour's contract expires, but don't count on it.

STIFF #3: TRACY MCGRADY
McGrady has been shopping his services this offseason and after getting nibbles from the Lakers, Clippers, and most recently the Bulls ... T-Mac is still without an employer. The 31 year-old guard, with a rich injury history, apparently is not ready to accept a reduced role. Will McGrady's stubborness land him on a lottery team where he'll try to prove he can still be "the man" or will he accept being a role player and wind up in Chicago gunning for that elusive title?

STIFF #4: DANNY AINGE
The Celtics did lose defensive ace Tony Allen to the Memphis Grizzlies, but re-signing Marquis Daniels to a one-year $2.5 million deal is a little crazy. Daniels should be thanking agent Mark Bartelstein ... maybe the rapper can sing his agent a song. (Daniels is in the yellow shirt in the video)

STIFF #5: NUGGETS SLEEPING ON SIZE
The Nuggets decided to bring back Anthony Carter on a one-year $1.3 million deal. Do the Nuggets really need a third point guard heading into training camp over another big body? Check out some names still on the free-agent market: Louis Amundson (yes he'll require more money), Fabricio Oberto, Kwame Brown, Anthony Tolliver, DJ Mbenga, Nathan Jawai, Josh Boone, Kyrylo Fesenko, and Joey Graham. Denver still has the bi-annual exception to spend ... so maybe there is still hope of grabbing somebody.
