Embrace the Hate!

"Don't ask me what I think of you....I might not give the answer that you want me to...."

Oh Well - Fleetwood Mac 1969

It's time Nuggets fans. It's time to embrace the hate.

Anyone watching the TNT broadcast on Thursday and the ABC Nuggets/Lakers game on Sunday knows the hate. Melo talked about the disrespect last week. There's an active dislike of our Denver Nuggets by the media...fans of other teams....and yes.....even by supposed fans of the Nuggets as well?

What does this mean? Say it LOUD!!....

Our team is the Nuggets....WE are the Nuggets!!!!

Charles Barkley: Go ahead....tell us we aren't going anywhere. Where did YOU go exactly in your corpulent NBA career? I'm thinking....uhhhhh....nowhere! You went to one NBA finals and lost. You won nothing. Go get yourself another 5 buck box

Kenny Smith: You won two championships when Jordan wasn't in the league. So that makes your titles just about as valid as the "participation" ribbon I won in my elementary school two legged race.

Jon Barry: All you have done since you left the Nuggets in 2004 is bitch about them. My theory is Melo invited you to one of his parties but you were turned away at the door for looking like The Monarch from Venture Brothers.

Michael Wilbon: All you do is bash the Nuggets....and when they start winning in the playoffs you will jump on the band wagon...you know what....pardon the interruption...SHUT UP!

Faker fans: Seriously now? One win and you had to scratch and claw AT HOME to do it. Not to mention get the benefit of two bogus foul calls on Melo at the end. Sure...your team is the defending champs. Fine.  That will make it even sweeter when we boot your asses out of the playoffs. Then all your bandwagon jumping, vapid, apathetic, myopic fellow fans will cry all off season about how you were robbed. Sweet music to my ears.

NBA: Guess what....22 back to backs and we are STILL the 2 seed in the West. How do ya like THEM apples?

Everyone. I'm sick and tired of we as Denver Nuggets fans trying to turn our team of personalities into the Utah freakin Jazz. You know what the Jazz are? Whitebread. A perfect team for UTAH. Not Denver. It's about time we as fans embrace the hate....embrace our flaws....embrace our TEAM!!

It starts tonight!! It starts in Phoenix. We roll into the playoffs and we don't stop until we win the championship. Settling for anything less is loser talk.

GO NUGGETS!

Write respectfully of your SB Nation community and yourself.

Thanks CraftyB

It’s time we as Nuggets fans stop bitching and ride out with this team. I, for one, am quite happy this team is unpredictable and exciting to watch.

I agree

Besides, after the Suns game tonight and the Thunder on Wednesday, the Nuggets a pretty easy schedule for a little while. I can see them winning just about, if not, all of them.

The Nuggets are a good team, but don’t get ahead of yourselves. Until the Nuggets beat the Lakers in a series in the playoffs, your just a “cute” little story! I don’t mind at all if you don’t like the Lakers, but you should probably start respecting them since they have been your killer the last two years. Even when you swiped home court advantage from the Lakers last year, the Lakers promptly won game three and closed you out in Denver for game six. Know your role Nuggets fan!

It's going to happen

The fact that we have, once again, Faker fans trolling on here after a game where they had to win by 6 points and they are crowing like they just won the championship tells you everything you have to know about what they think

1. They are scared
2. We got to them
3. The Nuggets are better than the Sacramento teams of the early 2000’s. The Lakers lost their arrogance when they found out they couldn’t just walk over the Nuggets anymore.

Now….their fans and even the players are imitating the Nuggets.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery right?

Or they're here

because your fans are screaming insurrection because of two fouls. And people don’t respect your team because they win the hard ones and lose the easy ones, or have you not looked at the #2 stiff of the week from this past week. You haven’t gotten to L.A. fans, since you were always a legitimate team to play, your team is just so schizo that no one, not even you, knows what team is gonna show up. And you have a similar team to those early Sacramento teams, but you don’t have the big man that Chris Webber was going for you. If anything your team is just as good, but not better.

"Everyone is free to comment"

It’s technically true that there’s no litmus test you have to pass to prove the Nuggets are your favorite team before you post here. And it’s also true that Andrew Feinstein encourages debate from fans of opposing teams.

But if you go to denverstiffs.com and look up at the title bar of your browser, it says “Denver Stiffs — For Denver Nuggets Fans.” This place is kept active and alive by we daily visitors and commenters, it’s where we come to talk about the Nuggets, that’s what this place exists for.

I’ve said this a bunch of times now and none of you laker people seem capable of getting it: Fans of all the other teams come in here and comment, discuss, debate, and sometimes even trash-talk, and it’s fine. But the laker people are so far out of proportion it’s ridiculous. This place was overrun with stupid asshole laker trolls for most of the week after the last game. Anyone who thinks that’s perfectly fine and acceptable is really just a stupid fucking asshole.

question

Why the hell do you all care so much if we’re over here on our team’s blog saying whatever we feel like about your team? I don’t give a crap what you all say about the Nuggets over on your blog, say whatever you want, I never look there and don’t care.

Why is it so important to all of you to go around chasing after us for saying stuff about your team that you don’t like to hear?

Fans of other teams stop in here from time to time to chat, and sometimes there’s a debate, but it’s nothing like with you people. So what the hell is wrong with you that you can’t tolerate having us say negative things about your team on our site?

by ParkHillNative on Mar 2, 2010 11:21 AM MST up reply actions   3 recs

Absolutely correct

come and here and say something constructive, but don’t come in trying to stir up shit. This is the Denver Nuggets fansite, it is not some ESPN chatroom. The last thing we care to see are some fans from another team talking shit about the team all of us root for. So be constructive or fuck off, you are just playing into the stereotype that Lakers fans think everyone cares about what they have to say, we don’t.

Fine

so why does it matter if I come and say something against your team on this blog. If its constructive criticism of your team what I say shouldn’t matter to you. Someone blatantly attacks a fan base that I happen to be a part of I will respond. Someone attacks the integrity of a game I enjoy watching I will respond. Someone attacks the character of my message I will respond. My response wasn’t to anything about your team except my explanation of why no one respects you. You know your team is schizo, other fans of the Nuggets have said it. Why is it a big deal that just because I happen to root for a different team more that I said it? Basketball fan first, Laker fan second, thats why I come here. I come here because I like the Nuggets. Sorry if I offended you just because I said your team happens to be ridiculously unpredictable, something repeatedly already stated on this site by everyone on here.

by Marty Mart on Mar 2, 2010 8:54 PM MST up reply actions

First of all, did I mention your name in any specific way?

I find most of your posts perfectly acceptable, actually I think many people on here are too sensitive and immediately take offense to anything someone says once they claim to be a Lakers fan. But next time, after a tough loss maybe all of you should shy away from the blog of the team that was on the losing end for awhile, when emotions run high conversations never end well between opposing fans. But I still don’t think many of you get it, this isn’t a blog for all of basketball it’s specifically Nuggets. When non Nuggets fans come on here and criticize the team we love many won’t be happy. Yes the Nuggets are inconsistent, yes we criticize it, but at the end of the day we do so because we want our team to get better, something Lakers fans surely don’t.

I'd love for them to be better too

It makes for better competition and it makes for a better playoff series then. Obviously, I wouldn’t be rooting for them but it would be more entertaining.
As it is a basketball blog, I feel like I should be able to come here and speak on the problems of a team just as much as you do, but I can understand the sensitivity of it coming from another fan base.

by Marty Mart on Mar 2, 2010 9:55 PM MST up reply actions

Just make sure when you do

not to mention anything that can be seen as antagonistic to that blog’s team. Even little things like “this can’t be called a rivalry” can piss of a lot of people, outside of that I’m always interested to see what other fans say.

You still don't get it

Fans of other teams come in here from time to time for discussion, debate, and even a little trash talking, and it’s generally fine.

You’re just one part of a bigger problem. A Lakers game comes up and suddenly this place is fucking flooded with trolls. There isn’t a single other team in the league whose fans come in here and fuck things up that way.

Marty Mart, the posts of yours that I’ve seen aren’t a particularly big problem by themselves (although I’m inclined to believe Gasus when he says you have a history of crappy posts that I just haven’t followed).

This is a Nuggets blog, for Denver Nuggets fans , and I come here to talk about the Nuggets with fellow Nuggets fans. For the first several days of this week, this site that I like has been getting spoiled because there’s so goddamn many of you coming in here thinking you have to dispute every negative thing we say about your team.

So it matters if you and a hundred other goddamn Lakers fans come in here and say something negative about our team BECAUSE THAT’S NOT WHAT THIS SITE IS FOR.

If it were only the same proportion as with the other teams in the league, there wouldn’t be a problem.

Jordan and the Pistons

Chicago lost 2 straight (maybe 3) years to the Pistons in the playoffs. Next year they not only bested their evil foe, they won the championship.

Nugs are right there. Pistons won the championships in 1 if not both years. History shall repeat itself…with different teams of course.

and then the next year (’91), the Bulls swept the Pistons. Isiah and company walked off the court before time expired in the 4th game. Class act.

Game 7

I just got a sick feeling in my stomach. It’s late May. The Cavs have already advanced to the NBA Finals. It’s Game 7 of the WCF in Los Angeles.

After Kobe has just been fouled and hit 2 FTs to put the Lakers up by one with 5 seconds left, Carmelo gets the ball, with Kobe on him.

In triple threat position, he takes a jab step left, pump fakes, takes a dribble right, gets bumped, rises, gets slapped on the elbow before he shoots, it clangs off the rim as every right-minded, knowledgeable basketball fan waits for the whistle that is inevitably coming.

…and waits…
…and waits…
…and waits….

…for the whistle that will NEVER come, lest the best clutch player on the planet ruin David Stern’s and the NBA’s dream “Puppet Fest 2010.”

I just threw up a little bit…

Hey buddy

Don’t act like Lakers fans are morally superior to Nuggets fans. You’re offended by “Fakers?” Really? Yeah, cause last time I checked, “Fakers” was NOT an exclusive insult used by Nuggets fans. And what about “Thuggets?” If “Fakers” hurts your feelings, then what about “Thuggets?” And hey remember that Christmas game where Lakers fans threw shit onto the court during the game, just because LA was losing?

Sorry for feeding the troll, but I’m not feeling very welcoming right now. You can go back to your own blog, or you can face criticism/debate on this one. You come here right after a big Lakers win that the Nuggets nearly pulled off, you rub your team’s win in our faces, what did you expect us to do? I don’t recall Nuggets fans rushing to SSR to troll after Denver beat LA twice.

by Uh on Mar 1, 2010 8:57 PM MST up reply actions

Its not criticism or debate

when you only look at your side of the debate. And no one came here to troll. I haven’t seen anyone say “DENVER SUCKSSSSS!!!! STUPID THUGGETS!!!” No one has come here to troll. They came to see your reaction, which was the typical ‘our team didn’t play well but lets pin it on the one foul at the end commentary.’ The commentary is in itself absurd and isn’t debate as much as it is children arguing with adults. And no Nuggets fans don’t come to SSR when they win, but it is linked in case you want to. And if you go there, Denver is seen as a threat by some and not so much by others. No one goes around saying, ‘how nice was it to see Carmelo smiling his way off the court.’ There is a respect for Denver and its players that exists there that doesn’t exist here, but I guess that you wouldn’t really understand that seeing as how you don’t go to SSR. Every blog has its outliers and unreasonable people, but the majority of people at SSR are basketball fans as well as Laker fans and they call it how they see it.

by Marty Mart on Mar 2, 2010 9:34 AM MST up reply actions

Alright

So you’re implying that the commenters here are children, and you are the adults.

Cool.

But seriously, what are you trying to accomplish here? Based on what you and LAKERJK have said in this thread, you are trying to act like it is your moral responsibility to make us better people. Really unnecessary.

And honestly we should be allowed to dislike whoever we want. Yeah the Lakers are the reigning champs…great. So now we have to bow down and acknowledge their superiority at every step? Everyone on this site already knows how good the Lakers are, trust me.

Sure some people might take it overboard at times…but like you said, every blog has its outliers.

by Uh on Mar 2, 2010 3:59 PM MST up reply actions

This is what you said

“You come here right after a big Lakers win that the Nuggets nearly pulled off, you rub your team’s win in our faces, what did you expect us to do? I don’t recall Nuggets fans rushing to SSR to troll after Denver beat LA twice.”

You said we came here to troll. I said we didn’t. Its as simple as that. I included what you would see at SSR because if Denver fans ever went there that is what they would see. You called the entire fan base out, I gave you what you would see there. We can get debate and criticism on our own blog just as much as we can here. There are just as many opinions at SSR as there are here.

Also, I didn’t call your entire fan base out. I called out those who prescribed to the refs hate us medicine that some subscribers to this blog seem to live off of. Meaning those that prescribe to that as the only reasons you lose big games are the children, whereas those who acknowledge the poor play leading up to that point as being the adults. So, no it is not limited to everyone here but all teams who do this, which includes the Cavs for some reason. Dislike whoever you want. Hate Kobe. Hate the Lakers. Don’t call out a fan base or blog and then be upset just cuz we as members of said blog respond.

by Marty Mart on Mar 2, 2010 9:33 PM MST up reply actions

Remarkably, my post-Lakers-loss frustration has dissipated already

So I will just say this: First off, I did not “call the entire fan base out.” I am not sure where you saw that. Also, I never meant to criticize SSR as a terrible blog or anything (although I have noticed several posters at SSR calling out Denver Stiffs), and I do respect the Lakers. And Kobe. Well, the Lakers anyway. I respect Phil Jackson, that’s for sure.

And I agree that the conspiracy theories can get excessive on this site, although they are not without merit. Maybe it is my hatred for David Stern that influences my views on the NBA, but there are a lot of things that need to be fixed (the refs, in my mind, are one of those things).

by Uh on Mar 3, 2010 5:01 PM MST up reply actions

First of all, I don’t know how I rubbed yesterday’s win in your face. I haven’t even talked about yesterday’s game. I brought up the playoff series from the last couple of years after some Denver fans were saying that you got us this year. “We got them” if I remember correctly. I also have not reffered to you as the “Thuggets”. I can have conversations or “debates” as you call them without the name calling. Your putting words in my mouth. As far as you guys calling us “Fakers”, I was just hoping that you guys could be a little more creative then that! Maybe when the Lakers come to Denver the next time you can chant “Beat L.A.”. That chant is always good for a laugh.

Regardless of who was playing they still won the damn championship two years in a row. Also it wasn’t as if the Rockets didn’t play well against the Jordan Bulls anyways. by lrh86 on Mar 8, 2010 12:06 PM MST up reply actions

really really really

the jordan-bulls era started in the 1984-85 season and ended in the 1997-98 season. that is a total of 14 seasons. 2 games are played each season for a total of 28 games. you stated the rockets were 13-9. that is a total of 22 games. looks like your basic arithmetic is spouting bullshit. the record during that period of time was 15-13 in favor of the rockets. sounds like your research is spouting bullshit there too. during the rocket championship years the record was tied 2-2. that makes the record with jordan 13-11 rockets favor. you and your bullshit research is still missing 2 games. rockets handling the bulls fairly well is spouting bullshit AGAIN. the fact is when jordan came into the nba the bulls were a bad team. his 1st 3 years in the league the rockets were 5-1 against the bulls. that is where the advantage was record wise. the issue was when the rockets won their 2 nba championships jordan was not playing. against the bulls the rockets record was 2-2 WITHOUT JORDAN. when jordan returned the bulls won the next 3 nba titles. their record against the rockets was 5-1.

You've Got to be Kidding...

Nobody hates the Nuggets. The 1988 Pistons were hated; the Nuggets haven’t been good enough to be hated.

The Nuggets don’t get the love and respect BECAUSE THEY HAVEN’T EARNED IT YET.

It’s as simple as that.

The Lakers… they have rings, you need to prove it to them.
The Spurs… they have rings, you need to prove it to them.
The Mavs… they’ve actually been to the finals and have won playoff series in multiple years, you need to prove it to them.

This is coming from a LIFELONG FAN, but so far the Nugs haven’t shown themselves to be anything more than the New Orleans Hornets… really hot one year in the playoffs.

It’s not hate… it’s a lack of respect. You don’t buy respect, you earn it.

THE NUGGETS HAVEN’T EARNED ANYTHING YET

In the brief time you've been posting on here....

….you have yet to utter a positive word….word. So I task you to find SOMETHING positive to say before you start in on another negative “the nuggets arent worth of anything” rant.

Everyone is entitled to their OPINION.

BTW….I think wiping the floor with the Mavs last year proved something to them. Also…New Orleans went from a 2 seed to a 7 seed in the course of one year. If you see the Nuggets falling that far then….god bless. I don’t see it.

No, seriously. Another playoff series between the Mavs and the Nuggets would be awesome. Yopu

Yeah

It’ll be fun, the #1 Lakers and #4 Nuggets killing each other in the WC Semis for the chance to be whupped by BIG D!

Dallas is player better, no lie

But, can they do it in the playoffs? From what I saw last year, it was Dirk who was bailing everybody out. He’s only one man, ya know.

by Mini Hulk on Mar 3, 2010 10:52 AM MST up reply actions

Yep. It was Dirk-on-5

But we got a lot of help in several areas this season. This roster is infinetely better than last years’. The Playoffs are gonna be a war.

You would think all these people have no blogs for their teams

with how much time they spend over here. And of course the laker fans are morally superior to us, they are from LA after all… lmao. Just Like Kobe is morally superior to us. And why shouldnt we complain about bad calls if the bad calls exsist. And When the laker fans says that shouldnt have lost you the game. Sometimes that is the case, but most times in a close game, when your best player fouls out on 2 horrible calls in a row, that just might cost you the game. I dont think anyone outside of laker fans, David Stern and the League front office, or most media who all have such a powerful chubby for a lebron-kobe match up in the finals thought that was a well called game. Just a point. Maybe we should go over the laker site and helpfully point out their issues. Like Pau looks like a caveman but is softer than Nene, bynum should be replaced with DJ. Fisher couldnt guard Chauncys shadow. Kobe has stern so far up his ass, that refs cant call a foul for fear of getting kicked by one of sterns feet. Here endeth the lesson

You should do it

and everyone would agree with you on but the last point you made and that point about Bynum. If you went there a lot of those things have already been said many times and discussed so I encourage you to go there.

Cross-blog posting is not uncommon here

I mean, Lakers and Mavs fans are commenting in this fanpost blog. Aside from myself, I’ve seen Nuggets fans over in over blogs – it’s fairly natural. For myself, I’m just curious to see what other bloggers are saying about our Nuggs. And many of the site bloggers (Silver Screen & Roll, for example) are pretty darn good for the most part. Sometimes I engage some of the more stupid statements made in blogs on other sites (“THEY SUCK LOL!” etc.), but not trolling. Of course, I understand not everybody who travels from blog to blog shares that posting philosophy…

We really do need to "embrace the hate"

charles barkley is a joke. I don’t even feel like capitalizing his name.

barkley is a clown

not sure why he gets so much cred? Maybe it’s because he just blurts stuff out of his mouth without thinking…

What I hate personally

Is that everywhere I go, the Nuggets are referred to as the “Thuggets.” Despite how much I explain that only a few players on the team could be even remotely considered as thugs, they don’t listen.

The STIFF LIST (as of 7/26 by Nate)

STIFF #1: COLORADO ROCKIES
The Rox have lost eight of their last 10, including six in a row. During the six-game losing streak Colorado has been outscored 33-13 ... and they might soon be the reason by buddy Rory has a massive heart-attack. But there are still 63 games to go and an upcoming eight-game homestand is hopefully just what the team, and Rory, needs to turn things around.

STIFF #2: MINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES/DAVID KAHN
Replacing a 24 year-old point guard with a 29 year-old point guard is just a sound NBA move ... uh? Kahn handed Ramon Sessions a 4-year $16 million contract last offseason and just gave the same deal to Luke Ridnour this offseason. In order to make room for Ridnour, Kahn shipped Sessions and young big man Ryan Hollins off to the Cleveland Cavaliers for Delonte West (who is still facing weapons-possession charges). Maybe Ricky Rubio will get to the T-Wolves before Ridnour's contract expires, but don't count on it.

STIFF #3: TRACY MCGRADY
McGrady has been shopping his services this offseason and after getting nibbles from the Lakers, Clippers, and most recently the Bulls ... T-Mac is still without an employer. The 31 year-old guard, with a rich injury history, apparently is not ready to accept a reduced role. Will McGrady's stubborness land him on a lottery team where he'll try to prove he can still be "the man" or will he accept being a role player and wind up in Chicago gunning for that elusive title?

STIFF #4: DANNY AINGE
The Celtics did lose defensive ace Tony Allen to the Memphis Grizzlies, but re-signing Marquis Daniels to a one-year $2.5 million deal is a little crazy. Daniels should be thanking agent Mark Bartelstein ... maybe the rapper can sing his agent a song. (Daniels is in the yellow shirt in the video)

STIFF #5: NUGGETS SLEEPING ON SIZE
The Nuggets decided to bring back Anthony Carter on a one-year $1.3 million deal. Do the Nuggets really need a third point guard heading into training camp over another big body? Check out some names still on the free-agent market: Louis Amundson (yes he'll require more money), Fabricio Oberto, Kwame Brown, Anthony Tolliver, DJ Mbenga, Nathan Jawai, Josh Boone, Kyrylo Fesenko, and Joey Graham. Denver still has the bi-annual exception to spend ... so maybe there is still hope of grabbing somebody.
