Nuggets got Camby on the mind?
Thanks to reader Garrett Olsen for pointing this out in the Game Thread ...
CBS Sports' Ken Berger reports that both the Knicks and Nuggets are thinking about the availibility of Marcus Camby:
Team executives differ widely in their assessment Marcus Camby’s availability, with some convinced Camby’s gone and others equally convinced he’s going nowhere. The truth is somewhere in between. A person familiar with the Clippers’ internal discussions said the team would move Camby and his $7.65 million contract only in a deal that would yield a significant player who could help them next season – or the cap space to sign one. The Clips are a small deal away from clearing the $15-$16 million necessary to sign a max player. If they can’t improve their 2010-11 position dramatically, Camby stays. Two of Camby’s former teams, the Nuggets and Knicks, are intrigued by the possibility of bringing him back for an encore.
Berger also reports that Tyrus Thomas is on the Nuggets' radar:
Tyrus Thomas isn’t as big a name as Stoudemire, but league sources agree he’s far more likely to be dealt by Feb. 18 – if not sooner. One person familiar with the situation said it would be surprising if the Thomas situation stretched into next week after his recent dustup with coach Vinny Del Negro over losing his starting job to rookie Taj Gibson. Sources say the Bulls would prefer to package Thomas in a bigger deal that would clear cap space for a major free agent signing -- such as a scenario detailed here involving the Celtics’ Ray Allen. Short of that, the Bulls would be eager to unload Thomas in a smaller deal that would bring back less significant assets that could be used to surround and entice a marquee free agent. Two Western Conference teams intrigued by Thomas are the Nuggets, patiently seeking a big man to contend with the Lakers, and the Spurs, who were characterized by two rival executives as desperate to acquire an athletic big man. “They feel like they have to do something, like they’re behind the eight ball a little bit,” one of the execs said. The Spurs have a full complement of expiring contracts that would intrigue the Bulls, who want to avoid losing a significant player with no compensation (see Ben Gordon) for the second straight summer. The Spurs, who dipped their toe across the luxury tax line this season, will have to decide before the end of their annual circus road trip – which continued Monday night against the Lakers – what they’re willing to give up to see that investment pay off.

can't happen...
…one because Marcus is a black hole, and two because LAC is looking for “usable pieces” not just cap space. we can throw the salaries at them to make it work, but they’re better off just letting Camby expire and having him play out the rest of the year of double-digit rebounds for them.
Nuggets have no attractive moveable pieces….now, next year? different story.

Yea..
I don’t see Camby from LAC not NY haha my B again =) unless we part with JR and that’s not worth it. I would love to add Thomas for Allen and Petro (If Petro agreed b/c of his bird rights if I am correct?) and Balkman. Thomas makes a little over 4 mil so we couldn’t use a TPE. I just have a hard time seeing Pops bring in a player like Thomas while struggling with R Jeff as is. They have Blaire so why add another big. I could see SA throwing something at Washington for Haywood or a player more of Haywood’s history.

Allen, Balkman and Graham
for Thomas works on the Trade Machine. It increases Denver’s projected wins by 4! Chicago gets a total of like 3 mil expirering and a really cheap contract in Balkman ata lttle over a mil for a couple years. They get a solid SF in Graham if they decide to trade Deng or Salmons in another deal. Allen and Balkman can take Thomas’ seat on the bench. It should still be warm.

I would love both of these players
Either would be great but I guess I would prefer Thomas since he is a lot cheaper and we wouldn’t have to give up one of our better players to get him. I have a feeling something is going down. There is just too much chatter about the Nuggets being interested in all these people for them not to make a move before the deadline.

Funny cuz i mentioned tyrus yesterday...
i would love either player, but camby’s contract is too expensive and he isnt rly necesary… we dont need another 25+ min big…. also matching his contract is hard to do…
i say get tyrus thomas, prob in a 3 way trade
I've never really watched Tyrus Thomas play
what does he actually do. He’s 6’10", but his numbers are nothing special. Does he rebound and play defense? He looks skinny, can he body up guys in the post? Cause that is what we need. Not some oversized athletic swingman with an attitude problem (Rashard Lewis).
Thomas, from what I've seen
He’s an incredibly athletic player, one of the most athletic in the entire league. He’s a hard worker on the defensive side of the ball when he sets his mind to it. He’s capable of knocking down the 15 footer but isn’t that consistent. He’s still very raw overall, but the bottom line is the dude can bang with the best of them when he wants to and would be a fantastic addition to this team in my opinion. He is very emotional and athletic. Sound like some players you might know on this team? In fact, I think he should be our primary focus to get before the deadline. He’s just too talented to waste away some of the best years of his career in Chi, where he’s not happy. If we can get him for some expirings, I don’t think we should hesitate one moment. The combo of him, Birdman JR and Lawson of the bench would be simply electrifying. Hell, that would be the best bench in the NBA we might have seen in a hell of a long time.

Ty
Is a big that’s capeable of being a 15 10 player. He can grab rebounds, is athletic and has geat potentiol. He is simply not happy in Chicago and isn’t getting any run. I think he could be electric off our bench with Ty JR and Bird.

He's so much like JR in the sense of "could be/potential"
Funny how both guys were unhappy in Chi, have attitude problems but have a ceiling like no other. It would definitely be strange if we snagged Thomas only for him to blow up here kind of like JR did.

My personal feeling
1. No on Camby, something about it just doesn’t feel right, I keep thinking aboug GK saying of him “He always seemed to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.”
2. Yes on Thomas, but not if any current rotation players have to be part of the deal.
Back in December, when things were going so badly, I thought it seemed really important to make some move, because it just seemed like shit wasn’t working and a shakeup was needed.
Now I think things are working well and everybody who gets minutes is doing a good job. I don’t want that to get screwed up.
Quite frankly, if it were up to me, I’d just throw in the towel.

Not a first choice(s)
When Camby was here before he did play his most consistent (and best?) basketball; but I don’t think I’d want Camby back, the defense was too soft inside when he was pursuing his blocked shots & rebounds.
Thomas seems to have some maturity problems; but maybe he can better handle playing behind KMart rather than Gibson who’s similar in age. Maybe worth the shot.
Unfortunately, either deal would require giving up JR if only to make the money match.
I think the team is moving forward with the mindset of Billups/Afflalo/Lawson as the primary 3 guards, which could make JR expendable.
