Melo may skip All-Star game if ankle isn't right

Lots of buzz surrounding Melo's ankle today. Found the following story by Aaron Lopez talking all about Melo's ankle and some quotes from #15 as well.

Anthony was selected by fans to start for the Western Conference during the Feb. 14 NBA All-Star Game in Dallas, but he said he will not participate if he can’t play in at least one of the next four games leading into the break.

“I wouldn’t do that. I couldn’t have people talking bad about me like that,” Anthony said. “I care about the All-Star game, but I really care about my team.”

Full article here.

Lopez covers the team for the the Nuggets website on NBA.com.

If he doesn't play in 1 of the next 4, I will be really mad

He’s been supposed to play since Houston’s game, come on, are you serious?

Wow, strange...

First he doesn’t return to the court for a nationally televised home game, and now he’s talking about not attending a game which is supposed to break attendance records and is also nationally televised?

What’s going on?

Well, at least he was on the bench for the ESPN-PHX game…right?

ASG is pointless

I’d rather him take the 6 or so days of rest than go play in a pointless game. In the end, it’s the ring that matters, not some stupid game in mid-February those starters are solely based on the fans. Iverson doesn’t really deserve it, but at least he played over 60 minutes….

That's great to hear

Melo has definitely matured a lot since Chauncey came to town. Even if he plays a game he shouldn’t play the ASG, you never know how weak that ankle still is. Having a full week or so of off days will fully heal it.

Nice to see an Aaron Lopez byline

I mean, I’m sad about Melo’s ankle. But I’m sick of all the talk about it.

So instead I just want to say how happy I am to find out Lopez is still covering the Nuggets. Good man. Although, writing for the team website is practically PR.

Just giving you a hard time, buddy.

From the Post today

Melo finally says what I was assuming all along — that the injury was worse than he wanted to admit.

STIFF LIST (as of 2/7 by Andrew Feinstein)

1. THE NUGGETS AT HOME
How is it possible that a Nuggets team with this much talent can be 7-5 at home?! Things have gotten so bad that fans are clamoring for J.R. Smith to return.

2. CARMELO ANTHONY
Kobe Bryant plays through any and all ailments. Melo uses any and ailments as an excuse not to play.

3. KEVIN LOVE
Just when the T'Wolves are looking better, Love stomps on Luis Scola and lands himself a two-game suspension.

4. CHARLOTTE BOBCATS
The 'Cats have lost 11 straight and are now 3-21 ... in the Eastern Conference! This is what happens when you let an underwear salesman with a Hitler mustache run your team.

5. MIKE BROWN
Dr. Bunsen Honeydew (Google it!) got himself a one-game suspension for making contact with a referee.
