Melo vs. Lebron

I know this will be a good read for everyone.  Even for those of us that enjoy team basketball more than the 1 on 1 duels.  Check out this article by Vincent Thomas of ESPN.  I found it posted on nba.com.

http://www.nba.com/2010/news/features/vince_thomas/02/23/lebron.carmelo/index.html?ls=iref:nbahpt1

I for one am hoping that the Nugs meet the Cavs in the finals.  I think we will see how far superior the West is to the East in that series!

Nice find Gasus.

I think we’ve all been thinking what Vince wrote here!

LOL

May actually feel good to see a Nug in the spotlight though. I get really tired of all the Kobe and Lebron B.S.

by Gasus on Feb 23, 2010 12:19 PM MST up reply actions

I had that same thought

and it occurred to me that Melo probably wouldn’t be down with being portrayed as a ‘puppet’. I can’t wait until Nike moves past the puppets to their next schtick.

I think JR's my fave...

Birdman, Ty Lawson, and Melo are hilarious

And Afflalo looks so embarrassed to be there

But I think George Karl takes the cake for most awesome performance

At least a Melo puppet would be cute.

I smiled ear to ear

The second I read the title. This is something every basketball lover would want to see. I agree no muppets though. Could you even imagine a 7 game series with those two? Both logging huge minutes a game with no actual back up at their positions. They’d be forced to play each other AND carry their teams offensively. I get all gigiddy gigiddy goo thinking about that potential match up for 7 straight games. But Nuggets win in 6.

Thanks for posting

That was a fun column. Although I don’t care who gets there for the East, I just want to see the Nuggets win!

I’d love to see this finals =)

Nice to see Melo get some shine...

…but Vince Thomas always gives Melo love.

I still dont want Lebron in the finals because of all the puppet garbage that started last year like a Kobe vs Lebron final is all that can happen.

As long as the nuggets are there who cares from the east, as long as its no LBJ.

The game itself tho….sick.

Awesome read, thanks

I agree with the no Puppet thing too. Those are the worst comercials of all time next to Sir Charles’ T-Bell delights.

Has anyone done a puppet parody?

It’d be awesome if altitdue did a mock commercial with the puppets jarring back and forth, then a life sized Nugget fan came into the shot and ripped the puppet heads off.
Well maybe its just me.

I don’t know why everyone hates the Barkley Taco Bell poem. I mean that’s better than the DUI, with Jaleel White AKA Urkle riding shotgun, a 4 pack of Bartel’s and James wine coolers, and a box of bear claw pastries…Oh and I forgot about his famous statement when pulled over by the Statey…“C’mon man I’m trying to get a b***Job” If he lived through that he can live through the shame of the taco commercials…And that’s why it rocks.

LeBron will go down as one of the greatest...

But if you want to win a title, I’d go with Melo. He has proven he is the big shot end of game guy. He’s done it time and time again.

Here’s Melo’s Bonifides… He broke the Boeheim curse and won a NCAA title for Syracuse. Nobody else has ever been able to do that.

Yessir.

Agreed. Melo is huge in the clutch and has been in the playoffs every year. Lebron cant say that. I believe the only person who has more game winners than Melo since he game into the league is Kobe (Gilbert was in the discussion before his….troubles)

Also…dont forget…Melo was a FRESHMAN leading that team.

I hope Lebron is another Karl Malone. One of the greatest to ever play….no ring.

Oi

I was on the road (still am actually, road tripping New Zealand highly recommended by the way) for this game, sounds epic. Melo is so underrated its not funny. Give it time, if he gets a ring it will catapult him into the best in the league convo

Why live life on the edge, when you can jump off?

by Zachm219 on Feb 23, 2010 10:33 PM MST reply actions

Melo's underrated...

because it took the Nuggets so long to get out of the 1st round of the playoffs. Meanwhile, Wade was winning his Championship and Bron was scoring all the points for the Cavs in the East Finals.

by NuggetsLife on Feb 24, 2010 10:33 AM MST up reply actions

Plus

Melo was the “unlucky” draftee to end up in a western conference that has Kobe, Duncan, Dirk, Garnett and Nash reaching their peak around the same time. Denver lost in the 1st round to the eventual WCF champ (with the exception of the T-Wolves) This made it very hard to make a splash in the WC. LBJ and Wade had a bunch of slumping teams to beat up on in a watered down Eastern conference.

The playing field is leveling out now and Melo is right where he belongs.

by Joelsopinion on Feb 24, 2010 11:05 AM MST up reply actions

Clippers

Also lost in the 1st round to the Clippers, who have never been WC champs.

by ParkHillNative on Feb 25, 2010 11:07 AM MST up reply actions

I see how it reads that way

But I often just use the first field to list a key word from the body of the post that follows.

Otoh, there are posts like this where the first field is the beginning of a sentence, which then continues in the body of the post below.

Man, I need to tighten this shit up.

by ParkHillNative on Feb 25, 2010 11:28 AM MST up reply actions

Forgot about the clips.

I think I blocked out some painful memories of losing to them.

Is that short for ‘clipper ship’? What is that anyway? Is that like a schooner?

The STIFF LIST (as of 7/26 by Nate)

STIFF #1: COLORADO ROCKIES
The Rox have lost eight of their last 10, including six in a row. During the six-game losing streak Colorado has been outscored 33-13 ... and they might soon be the reason by buddy Rory has a massive heart-attack. But there are still 63 games to go and an upcoming eight-game homestand is hopefully just what the team, and Rory, needs to turn things around.

STIFF #2: MINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES/DAVID KAHN
Replacing a 24 year-old point guard with a 29 year-old point guard is just a sound NBA move ... uh? Kahn handed Ramon Sessions a 4-year $16 million contract last offseason and just gave the same deal to Luke Ridnour this offseason. In order to make room for Ridnour, Kahn shipped Sessions and young big man Ryan Hollins off to the Cleveland Cavaliers for Delonte West (who is still facing weapons-possession charges). Maybe Ricky Rubio will get to the T-Wolves before Ridnour's contract expires, but don't count on it.

STIFF #3: TRACY MCGRADY
McGrady has been shopping his services this offseason and after getting nibbles from the Lakers, Clippers, and most recently the Bulls ... T-Mac is still without an employer. The 31 year-old guard, with a rich injury history, apparently is not ready to accept a reduced role. Will McGrady's stubborness land him on a lottery team where he'll try to prove he can still be "the man" or will he accept being a role player and wind up in Chicago gunning for that elusive title?

STIFF #4: DANNY AINGE
The Celtics did lose defensive ace Tony Allen to the Memphis Grizzlies, but re-signing Marquis Daniels to a one-year $2.5 million deal is a little crazy. Daniels should be thanking agent Mark Bartelstein ... maybe the rapper can sing his agent a song. (Daniels is in the yellow shirt in the video)

STIFF #5: NUGGETS SLEEPING ON SIZE
The Nuggets decided to bring back Anthony Carter on a one-year $1.3 million deal. Do the Nuggets really need a third point guard heading into training camp over another big body? Check out some names still on the free-agent market: Louis Amundson (yes he'll require more money), Fabricio Oberto, Kwame Brown, Anthony Tolliver, DJ Mbenga, Nathan Jawai, Josh Boone, Kyrylo Fesenko, and Joey Graham. Denver still has the bi-annual exception to spend ... so maybe there is still hope of grabbing somebody.
