It's all up to Portland...

Figures my first post would be a proposed trade. If this has already been suggested my apologies. Here it is...

Star-divide

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=2564jtq

NJ gets Carmelo Anthony and Andre Miller (still effective veteran stand-in who has played with Melo, also has one less year of salary than Harris).

Portland gets Devin Harris (Harris provides a young upgrade at the point guard position, Nicolas Batum is talented but has lost minutes to Wes Matthews, who they have invested big $$ in).

Denver gets Batum, Derrick Favors and Murphy (2 promising young players plus cap relief).

Obviously NJ may balk depending on the rumor-of-the-day if Melo won't extend with them. First rounders from NJ will also likely be in play, but Denver may need to allow one to go to Portland to move Batum.

Write respectfully of your SB Nation community and yourself.

Best trade I have seen yet!!

You have to throw in the 2 1st round picks (especially the 2012 GS pick) from Jersey, and it is a great deal.
At least Murphy can play instead of that fat lump of useless in Curry.
2012 draft will be amazing. Hopefully we garner as many 2012 picks as we can because 2011 draft will SUCK!!

Thanks!

Appreciate it! Not sure if Portland would say yes but they would listen. They already have money tied up at the position and Harris >>> Miller, but for NJ Miller would work as he provides a solid veteran presence and a manageable contract. You’re right 2012 will be a big draft year, so I’d be ok with parting with NJ’s 2011 1st (or ours if it’s lower) if it meant prying a talented SF who’s already got a couple yrs in the league under his belt, and then keeping the 2012 1st that NJ currently has in its pocket.

Roy

Came out and said the team isnt working. He needs players that complement him better.

Specifically he refferenced speed. As in Im slow and i only look slower with Miller playing PG. Harris may be a good fit.

There is not much of a chance though that the Nets give up both harris and Murphy i think its a one or the other deal, but then again they are desperate to get Melo.

Portland may be able to get mroe enticed if a wing was added like Damion James.

I think NJ is desperate for Melo

Thay first proposal they threw at us shows us everyone is on the table except Lopez.
Also the other thing about this trade is Portlad has incentive to get Melo out of the division like Utah, so they would probably be down with it.
I definitely think this could be good for all 3 teams and makes sense! Hope the Ujiri is looking at this.

What Roy really needs

is knees that compliment him better. Portland needs to start over, sadly.

or rather

knees period. He may be the next Grant Hill, and he’s got a huge contract. Or the next Kmart.

I actually really like this deal

As long as Denver doesn’t lose Lawson for Rudy fucking Fernandez like in another post. But I like Batum a lot to play SF and then Favors and Murphy’s expiring. Not bad my friend. I’d do this for sure.

Agreed...

No need to send Lawson anywhere. Plus with the new CBA coming and no draft picks, Miller is probably the best NJ can hope for over as a replacement for Harris in the short term.

Not bad

Couple of additions, Portland seems to be soaring on Batum a bit (or at least the coahc is) and NJ would be more than happy to get rid of Murphy, I definately don’t think it is an either/or with Murphy and Favors.

Having said that, I don’t think Melo is ever going to sign and go to NJ.

I agree

Not an either or with Favors and murphy, I heard it was an either on on Harris or Murphy to pair with favors and picks of course.

Wow....to think, I was told something similar may happen

Well, I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express

I think Melo finally (unintentionally?) blinked and it’s giving Denver and NJ the impetus to get something done. Maybe the extra picks could be flipped to pry Batum, but that’s just blind optimism on my part.

by Ace Magoo on Dec 15, 2010 7:36 AM MST up reply actions

I would do it, but the other teams?

NJ would be crazy to do this IMO, even if they could keep all their draft picks. Miller is 34, and Harris sees eye to eye with Avery Johnson. Also, I think Melo would only go to NJ if they have a young core to build on quickly – not a 1-2 year window for winning before Dre poops out.

NJ may be desperate, but Melo ain’t.

STIFF LIST (as of 4/26 by Andrew Feinstein)

1. METTA WORLD PEACE

Metta resorted back to Ron Ron last Sunday by clubbing James Hardenwith an "inadvertent celebratory elbow", landing him a 7-game suspension. Apparently, changing his name didn't prevent NBA commissioner David Stern from overlooking Metta's past behavior problems.

2. CHARLOTTE BOBCATS

The 'Cats are on the verge of securing the worst winning percentage in NBA history. Given that the guy who runs the team - Michael Jordan - had previously drafted Kwame Brown and Adam Morrison, should this really be a shock?

3. OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER
The team that was supposedly built to overcome the lockout-shortened season managed to lose 7 of its last 14 games, ceding the Western Conference's 1-seed to the Spurs in the process. Their reward might be a first round matchup with defending champion Dallas.

4. BILLY HUNTER AND DEREK FISHER
With report after report coming out about NBPA union head Hunter's shady, nepotistic dealings and questions arising about Fisher's own role in dealing with NBA owners behind Hunter's back during the lockout, this off-the-court scandal could prove to be more exciting than the playoffs themselves!

5. STEVE NASH AND THE PHOENIX SUNS
The Suns are on this list for squandering the last few great seasons from Nash. Nash is on this list for his stupidly stubborn loyalty to a franchise as awful as the Suns.
