Too much sense to not happen

Trade that needs to happen ASAP.

Denver trade: JR smith, and Chris Andersen

Denver receives: Sammy Dalmebert.

Numbers work.  Dalembert is a true defense center to play behind nene (who can do the scoring).  plus he is on a 13 mil expiring deal. Plus we can get out of Birdmans contract.

Sac, gets JR who supposedly they have wanted, and a sammy d replacement.

obviously this wont help solve our Melodrama (sammy isnt going to be enough), but i think our team becomes a lot better and more conventional with a true C out there, shift Nene to PF, and move kenyon ASAP (probably not until the deadline no one will want him before then).  Plus we lose some long term salary for the post-melo new CBA world.

Sammy

Appears to be losing minutes to Demarcus and doesnt seem to be happy about it.

would sac do this?

jr is an expiring too, so unless they re-sign him, theyre trading away their huge expiring for birdman.

this would give us a ton of expirings.

kmart 16.5M
dalembert 12.2M
cb1 13.2M (guaranteed ~3M for next season)

41M coming off the books after this season. plus another 17M if melo walks.

how bout we just trade bird and jr for jason thompson?

let's go nuggets! who u wit?

Expirings

Are not worth as much as past years (although Sammy is a good one) apparently like 16 larger than 10+ mil expirings or trade exemptions this year

by nsink on Nov 22, 2010 5:17 PM MST up reply actions

No way... Bird isn't much worse than Sammy, but he's not nearly as stupid... no joke I think Dally has the lowest Bball IQ in the NBA

also, trading JR for a big would mean giving Forbes and Billups (at SG) a lot more minutes… you can’t rely on those 2 to put up consistent numbers at the SG…

Something I would do would be something around JR for Garcia and Thompson

Bird

IS older and has health issues (past drug use, doesnt help age well)
and knee issues.

Plus Sammy D’s is expiring. Birds is not a great contract in the later years, will be a hinderance.

JR

For garcia and thompson is probably asking a lot.

Does anybody have acess to ESPN insider that says that JR is a valuable spark off the bench for us?

I saw that someone said he is valuable to us. I know many fans are itching to get rid of him, but as we all know you don’t don’t know what you have until it is gone.

Here ya go...

Team trend: The Denver Nuggets’ offense

Five years into his coaching relationship with J.R. Smith, Nuggets head coach George Karl continues to try to get Smith to mature. Smith’s latest stint in Karl’s doghouse began last Monday, when he was late to pregame shootaround the morning of Denver’s game against the Phoenix Suns. Smith sat out that night’s game as punishment, then played just one minute combined in the next two games. On Saturday night, Smith moved back into Karl’s rotation, playing 19 minutes in a win over the Nets.

That Karl and Smith are apparently starting to get back on the same page is good news for the Nuggets, who need production from their sixth man. In Denver’s two losses without Smith — at home against the Suns and at Portland — the team scored less than a point per possession, a mark the Nuggets had failed to reach just once in their first nine games.

Smith’s impact on Denver’s offense is not limited to the past three games. Throughout the course of the season, the Nuggets have scored 13.0 more points per 100 possessions with him on the floor, according to BasketballValue.com. And Smith has had a positive impact on offense (albeit not quite so large) in each of the past three seasons.

The funny thing about Smith’s status as a difference-maker is that he has not played exceptionally well this season, making just 37.5 percent of his 2-point attempts. Still, Smith is a better scorer than Denver starter Arron Afflalo, who was overextended when Smith was sitting out. Afflalo averaged 38.3 minutes in those three games and saw his shooting percentages suffer. Adding Smith to the wing rotation puts Afflalo in a more comfortable role playing between 30 and 35 minutes a night and makes the Nuggets a stronger team.

Thanks Chadwork

I knew we looked off those 3 games that JR didn’t play and it looks like there are stats to back that up.
Even though he had a bad statistical game against GSW, it still felt like he wasn’t hurting the team, he just needed to take more shots to get into a rhythm. JR has definitely restrained himself from jacking shots a lot more this year which is a good thing to see.
Didn’t Melo start 1/6 or something like that before he got hot in that game. It sucks that JR is not in long enough to get into a good rhythm. I am ok with AAA closing it out though if AAA is accurate that game.
I think 4 minutes for Forbes is perfect, maybe a little more on a given night, but that is where Forbes should be.

No problem

I think JR has played really well this season when he’s gotten the opportunity. He hasn’t had huge scoring nights where he is in the zone like we have seen before but i think that is because he’s not taking as many stupid shots and playing out of control like he has before. To me, it looks like he has really worked on playing under control and doing the things the coaches want. Whenever i start thinking of trades i always think about JR being a good trade asset, but the more i think about it he is valuable to this team and i really want to keep him here and i would like to see him get consistent minutes. Hopefully Karl starts feeling the same way.

by Chadwork on Nov 24, 2010 12:36 AM MST up reply actions

ding ding ding

Thats the problem though “hopefully Karl feelling the same way”. He doesn’t.

Us fans can say all we want., but the coach doesnt like him or trust him. So know way he can develop and lead us in the playoffs, karl will never give him the chance. They probably wont resign him at 7 mil a year and we wont want to take a cut, so why not get something for him, even if its just a large expiring (but one who will help and play this year) and the loss of birds long term contract.

by nsink on Nov 24, 2010 6:42 AM MST up reply actions

I for one have thoroughly enjoyed

his efforts to make the right pass and I think that should be rewarded with extra playing time.

by NugNugz on Nov 26, 2010 11:12 AM MST up reply actions

i could see this happening

but i would try and get thompson or demand at least Whitesdale in addition.

JR/Birdman for Dalembert/Whitesdale.

by skithebert on Nov 22, 2010 7:26 PM MST reply actions

may be able to steal donte green or casspi instead

casspi just got straight benched like JR. 2 DNP coaches decision in a row.

by skithebert on Nov 22, 2010 7:30 PM MST up reply actions

I think Sac is really high on Whiteside

He has high potential, so I dont think we could get him. I would love to get casspi, but considering they would be taking on Bird, then I am not sure we can get any extra assets in return.

by Monkfish on Nov 22, 2010 8:10 PM MST up reply actions

yea whiteside, misspelled it

seems like a good prospect, but he hasn’t played more than a minute this season. so i dunno he might be available. don’t think he’s injured. Sac definitely has a logjam at 4 and 5.

by skithebert on Nov 22, 2010 8:46 PM MST up reply actions

I thought he got injured in camp

And calling him rough around the edges would be an understatement, I can see him spending some time in the D-league.

by Monkfish on Nov 23, 2010 4:21 PM MST up reply actions

SAC won't take bird's contract

They are rebuilding around very young studs. They need established veterans in their prime on flexible contracts: JR fits the bill, Bird does not.
I still don’t understand: who said SAC loved JR so much? Sounds like exactly the wrong guy for a locker room full of young prima donnas. Careful what you wish for…

We should target Thompson, who is young healthy, cheap and solid. Perfect backup for Nene. Sammy is older, gimpier, costlier and not a better player. Because of his length I might play him over Thompson too, but that just underlines that Jason is the odd man out since Cousins arrived.

by slader on Nov 23, 2010 7:16 AM MST reply actions

I like the idea of having a more traditional center

however Dalembert doesn’t have the beef needed to guard big centers and has been rather infamous for some of his bone-headed plays. Trade machine says this trade barely affects either team and that sounds about right, doesn’t help us much one way or another and I doubt Sacto wants Birds contract even for JR’s potential. Also do they really want JR around Cousins?

I would like Thompson but he is a ways away still.

by NugzD on Nov 23, 2010 10:30 AM MST reply actions

Id rather

Have a center with bone-head plays than a sg making bone head plays.

Plus its a large expiring, and he is under 30, and itd let us get out of birds contract, and he is not a bad defensive center. What size wouldnt he be able to guard? He is big enough to handle defense center duties for everyone except maybe the physical beast (bynum, dwight, bogut), but there really are not many of them or options to get guy who can defend them they are usually pretty hard to pry away (noah, perkins come to mind but they wont be traded).

by nsink on Nov 23, 2010 12:42 PM MST up reply actions

yeah, you talked me into it,

however I really doubt Sacto does this becuase of JR (with Cousins) and Birds’ salary.

STIFF LIST (as of 4/26 by Andrew Feinstein)

1. METTA WORLD PEACE

Metta resorted back to Ron Ron last Sunday by clubbing James Hardenwith an "inadvertent celebratory elbow", landing him a 7-game suspension. Apparently, changing his name didn't prevent NBA commissioner David Stern from overlooking Metta's past behavior problems.

2. CHARLOTTE BOBCATS

The 'Cats are on the verge of securing the worst winning percentage in NBA history. Given that the guy who runs the team - Michael Jordan - had previously drafted Kwame Brown and Adam Morrison, should this really be a shock?

3. OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER
The team that was supposedly built to overcome the lockout-shortened season managed to lose 7 of its last 14 games, ceding the Western Conference's 1-seed to the Spurs in the process. Their reward might be a first round matchup with defending champion Dallas.

4. BILLY HUNTER AND DEREK FISHER
With report after report coming out about NBPA union head Hunter's shady, nepotistic dealings and questions arising about Fisher's own role in dealing with NBA owners behind Hunter's back during the lockout, this off-the-court scandal could prove to be more exciting than the playoffs themselves!

5. STEVE NASH AND THE PHOENIX SUNS
The Suns are on this list for squandering the last few great seasons from Nash. Nash is on this list for his stupidly stubborn loyalty to a franchise as awful as the Suns.
