George Karl to coach West All Stars

Gkwhisper_medium

Pssst... how you like me now?

With the Suns defeating the Mavs Thursday night George Karl has clinched the coaching duties of the Western Conference squad at the 2010 All Star game in Dallas. The coach with the highest winning percentage in each conference is awarded the spot. Last years All Star coaches Phil Jackson and Mike Brown are ineligible however. It's a fine accomplishment and Karl deserves props for putting the Nuggets in a position to have 2 representatives at the All Star game in Dallas. It should have been 3 through. Perhaps GK can make Pau Gasol wear a Billups jersey at the game.

I've been as hard on GK as anyone. We all need to show love when it's earned though. Good job GK! GO NUGGETS!!!!

Who knows?

Roy is still injured, maybe it’ll be worse than it looks or he reaggravates it prior to the ASG. Maybe Chauncey has a chance.
Anyway, congratulations to GK, but just because you can still lose the next 2 games and still coachthe West, doesn’t mean you should. >.<

chauncey's revenge

hope coach karl sticks to no more than a 7 player rotation. karl owes it to the basketball gods to keep the spotlight on these true all stars for as long as possible. dirk, kobe, dwill, durant, roy, duncan and amar’e you guys deserve 40+ minutes minimum. give these players as much time as possible to show case their skills to the world.

Tonight on TNT, Ernie Johnson stated that, because of the Mavericks’ loss to the Suns, George Karl will coach the Western Conference All-Stars, as he has the best record of any coach in the West not named Phil Jackson.

Not entirely sure though, I don’t know if the Jan. 31 game @ the Spurs will count toward the decisive record. The Mavs have a shot at tying the Nuggets’ record if they win against Portland AND Denver loses at OKC and San Antonio (if the latter counts). I don’t know what the tiebreaker will be in that case, the Mavericks have won the lone game between the two, but Denver has a much better Conference record.

If the Spurs game doesn’t count toward the decision, Karl will get coaching honours, and one of the assistants will coach in the Rookie game. Well deserved, might I add.

Now if we could just get Chancey and Ty on those rosters.

Nugs vs. Dallas in Denver this year was the most rigged game of the year

I was at the game and it was by far the worst I have attended. Nugs were playing five on 6 that night. I believe on Marc Davis was reffing that game but I could be wrong. It may have been one of the other Bavetta cronies…

by Gasus on Jan 29, 2010 11:38 AM MST up reply actions

That game was 5 on 8

There were 3 zebras. I know that it was mainly that one prick, but still.

Looks like Karl gets the nod as the Nuggets will at least end up in a tie with Dallas for 2nd best record. Jackson is out because he coached last year, and Karl goes over Carlisle since Carlisle has done this more recently.

At least the Nuggets got a little more recognition, by several defaults nonetheless, because just having Carmelo there is really a slap in the face to what this team has achieved over the last year and also the last few years.

Gk needs to play Gasol and Randolph ZERO minutes

or maybe Williams as well, because they shouldn’t be there while his guy should!!! Also play Kobe all 48.

1. THE NUGGETS AT HOME
How is it possible that a Nuggets team with this much talent can be 7-5 at home?! Things have gotten so bad that fans are clamoring for J.R. Smith to return.

2. CARMELO ANTHONY
Kobe Bryant plays through any and all ailments. Melo uses any and ailments as an excuse not to play.

3. KEVIN LOVE
Just when the T'Wolves are looking better, Love stomps on Luis Scola and lands himself a two-game suspension.

4. CHARLOTTE BOBCATS
The 'Cats have lost 11 straight and are now 3-21 ... in the Eastern Conference! This is what happens when you let an underwear salesman with a Hitler mustache run your team.

5. MIKE BROWN
Dr. Bunsen Honeydew (Google it!) got himself a one-game suspension for making contact with a referee.
