Around SBN: Kobe Bryant Will Never Top Michael Jordan

Is Stan K Committed

Let me begin by saying that I don't think George Karl is the right coach for the Nuggets he's had five years to prove me wrong. His insistence this year with an eight man rotation  is ridiculous especially without CB1. There are numerous other faults but this isn't about him this is about someone else.

Rebounding is  kicking the Nuggets ass. Nene and Bird aren't  centers. The Nuggets are undersized. I can't blame this on GK even though he should play Petro, Balkman and Graham. That might save some wear and tear on Nene, Kenyon and Bird.

This season Cuban, Busy and the owner(s) of the Blazers did their due diligence and acquired the necessary players to make their teams contenders.

Stan k knew from the onset that the Nuggets were in a small to medium market yet he purchased them anyway.
Me being a fan I'm thinking that this owner is going to do what it takes to bring a championship to the Denver Nuggets.

I'm really pumped this year for the Nuggets after being so close last year. With a few tweaks here and there and the Nuggets should be winning a championship this year. NOT !

What does Stan K do? He lets LK walk and DJ walk. LK and JR did really well coming off the bench. I'm sorely missing him.

Steven Hunter was traded to Memphis. He's a seven footer that might have come through this year. He's playing for Memphis. He's a BIG that could have been thrown in to match up with Bynum, Oden and Timmy.

Stan K is making GK try to do more with less. It's not working and Stan and the FO have to know it's not working and that we need a BIG.

This leads me to think that Stan is about Stan and not for the Nuggets or the Nuggets fans. Stan isn't COMMITTED like the opposition. Say what you want about Cuban but he walks the walk.

The window  of opportunity is closing on the Nuggets.  January is going to be a challenging month for the Nuggets. It's a stretch but without CB1 or if another starter goes down the Nuggets could do a 2-13.

Stan needs to COMMIT to the Nuggets and the Nuggets fans, after all  the salaries are paid by the sale of merchandise, ticket sales, beer sales, parking  etc. that the FANS buy.

The Nuggets need a BIG to compete Stan and only Stan has the say in getting this done. Does Stan give a damn? We shall see.

Write respectfully of your SB Nation community and yourself.

i actually do think stan is commited but

after what he saw in the beginning of his tenure, overpaying doesnt equal wins… look back at the year we had camby, ai, melo, kmart, nene, jr, kleiza, najera… that didnt equal wins/success, he understands that it is important to get a balanced team that plays with a certain swagger when they arent a bunch of overpaid athletes, like last years nuggets team… like look at the lakers to me they dont play with swagger, they just buy talent and it is disgusting…

with that said though, stan cant ignore the fact that we are going to be over the tax this whole year and he is going to have to live with it…. so might as well get a quality big, the problem is, we dont have the pieces to get one that would be much of an upgrade over malik allen/petro….

How quickly from 2nd to 7th

How quickly have the Nuggets loss ground in the conference.
The demise is happening right in front of Stan K and his front office. Big Bertha needs to be called upon. Is it going to happen or do the Nuggets fans get ripped off in disillusion?

I’ve been feeling a similar sentiment for quite some time. Great post. A lot of people hate on Mark Cuban and certainly his actions in last year’s playoffs (allowing Mavs fans to berate Nuggets players and families as well as possibly participating in such hostility) was deplorable, but the guy spends to win and sure enough every year they seem to at least be a threat.

The Nuggets need to SPEND. I get your point, but guys like Steven Hunter aren’t the answer. Maybe Kleiza was part of the equation, but I’m not convinced with that either. He needs to get some consistent players in there and he failed to do that this off-season. don’t get me wrong, our off-season acquisitions were great (particularly Afflalo and Lawson) but it wasn’t enough. The fact of the matter is you have to go over the cap to win a championship these days.

I don't think anyone gave Hunter a fair shake here

He was injured and GK didn’t buy it. Then he was hated on by most of the FO seems like

I agree.

I just don’t think he’s the difference in winning a championship. I think he could be useful, just not the answer.

Great post.

I’m not convinced Stan is committed to winning, if he was he would have fired Karl by now. You look at the moves he has made over the past few years like dumping Camby for jack sh*t and trading away AI and he has just been lucky the way things have worked out because of Wark’s managing skills. But in reality all Stan wanted to do was dump salary.

Great point

It really has been the luck of the draw to a certain extent. the Camby deal still pisses me off. Don’t get me wrong, I wanted that guy gone for a while, but I at least thought we could’ve gotten a 1st round pick for him.

Yeah that was inexcusable considering that we didn't even use the TE we got back and how badly we now need another big man

I honestly think we may have won the WCFs last year if we had Camby. No, he never was the best one-on-one defender, but he gave our team a lot of heart and desire to win and if I remember correctly, almost all the games we lost we got out-rebounded.

Back to the buisness part. Another thing you have to consider was how high we could have sold Camby for. He was coming off winning DPOY the year before we traded him. I think we could have got at least a first rounder and DeAndre Jordan back.

Stan doing it on the cheap

I remember the day it was announced that GK was coming on board to coach— I once again began to consistently follow and watch all things Nuggets instantly. Its not that I was not watching and supporting the team prior, but like many fans I had lost patience with the lack of committment from the owner/management and refused to devote some much of my time to medeocrity. GK is an intelligent man and a coach with an impressive track record—I felt aquiring him was a big step in the right direction, for awhile it was. But I have grown impatient with his coaching decisions. Mike Shanahan is also an intelligent man with an impressive record but it was clear that it was time for him to go. It might be time for GK to move along as well. I will never understand his justification for giving AC the kind of minutes that he does. Like others on this site, I don’t understand why Balkman does not get ANY minutes—I have heard rumors that Balkman’s work ethic is wanting and that he struggles in practice but I have seen more positives than negatives from him when he has played ( for a bench player). GK’s rotation habits drive me crazy—I also wonder what kind of practices are held. When you consistently see the same type of errors being committed on the floor e.g. missing free throws, not switching on def. coverages or missing your assignment altogether it makes me wonder what kind of instruction (coaching) is being had or how often are they having it.

Over the summer, I also raised the question of wheather SK was committed enough to this organization. I went back and forth with a knuckle head on this site making the argument that teams that have re-tooled in the WC will not be any better. He mentioned the suns and mavs as examples of teams that will not be a threat—well, we all know how that storyline has shaped up so far. I have a difficult time being sympathetic for a billionaire that purchases my favorite team and has to deal with the luxuary tax issue. Other teams have to deal with this as well. I have given silent Stan credit in the past for opening his wallet—bringing AI here was one such moment. But what have you done for us lately? We needed (still need) a marque type “big” to get us to the promise land; No substantive moves made over the summer. The argument is made behind the luxuary tax issue all the while Stan is periodically in the paper trying to aquire larger stakes in professional sports in europe. And the “small basketball market” argument also rings hollow—Look at it as an investment; if you spend it, they will come. Think I’m wrong? How much extra revenue (and interest) was generated by the Nuggs going as deep as they did in the playoffs last year? You remember don’t you stan, when you booked a wrestling event at the “can”, smack dab in the middle of the playoffs? Not only a lack of committment, a lack of faith.

Stan and his front office have got to make a strong move before the trade deadline next month if they are serious about making a championship run. Moves that also are mindful of the pieces that are needed to matchup with specific players on other contending teams. Band-aid moves not wanted. And as for GK, some of the reasons for our losses are directly related to coaching issues and coaching decisions—he can’t fall back on his career record forever( no championship mind you). He has all stars and probable future hall of famers on this team—time to bring that talent together in a way that consistently demonstrates professionalism and smart basketball execution on the floor.

STIFF LIST (as of 4/26 by Andrew Feinstein)

1. METTA WORLD PEACE

Metta resorted back to Ron Ron last Sunday by clubbing James Hardenwith an "inadvertent celebratory elbow", landing him a 7-game suspension. Apparently, changing his name didn't prevent NBA commissioner David Stern from overlooking Metta's past behavior problems.

2. CHARLOTTE BOBCATS

The 'Cats are on the verge of securing the worst winning percentage in NBA history. Given that the guy who runs the team - Michael Jordan - had previously drafted Kwame Brown and Adam Morrison, should this really be a shock?

3. OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER
The team that was supposedly built to overcome the lockout-shortened season managed to lose 7 of its last 14 games, ceding the Western Conference's 1-seed to the Spurs in the process. Their reward might be a first round matchup with defending champion Dallas.

4. BILLY HUNTER AND DEREK FISHER
With report after report coming out about NBPA union head Hunter's shady, nepotistic dealings and questions arising about Fisher's own role in dealing with NBA owners behind Hunter's back during the lockout, this off-the-court scandal could prove to be more exciting than the playoffs themselves!

5. STEVE NASH AND THE PHOENIX SUNS
The Suns are on this list for squandering the last few great seasons from Nash. Nash is on this list for his stupidly stubborn loyalty to a franchise as awful as the Suns.
