Karl: Jr doesnt shoot too many 3's

This was pulled from ESPN's insider :

11:00AM ET J.R. Smith | Nuggets Top

J.R. Smith made 10-17 three-pointers against Atlanta on Dec. 23. Since then he's only 11-50 from beyond the arc. Does George Karl want him to shoot less from long range?

"No," Karl told The Denver Post. "Yes, you want the mentality to be team-oriented, but the options sometimes are taking him out of the game or run different plays and put him in different places. And my decision is J.R. is too valuable to take out of a game. ... Not only is he missing 3s, but he's missing wide-open 3s. Hopefully, it's just a slump. Statistically, J.R. has played better after the all-star break, so maybe we're hoping it's just his personality taking time. And being suspended for the first seven games probably pushed it a little longer."

I don't buy it

J.R. is and always will be a knucklehead. I think his shooting slump is indicative of his desire to get out of Denver and play for another team where he’ll see a significant increase in minutes and a new head coach – and frankly, I can’t blame him.

JR plays more than the starting SG. He and Karl both said over the summer that JR wanted to come off the bench and be ‘that guy’ to spark things. I think his slump is just a slump. Great hitters, shooters, golfers etc all go through them from time to time.

I don't think JR wants to go anywhere. He seems to enjoy Colorado

and I don’t know of very many other coaches who are going to handle/put up with… his knuckleheadedness(is that a word)
that Karl does….

Dear Rockies- What a fun ride! Best comeback in MLB history to become NL Wild Card Champs.

Troy Tulowitzki-MLB's BEST shortstop..nuff said
Yorvit Torrealba-Our clutch has gone out, along with the best name in baseball. Sad Panda :(
Brad Hawpe- UZR isn't everything!
Dexter Fowler- The Bedazzler- Blinding speed, blinding smile, leaps Utleys in a single bound.

I think GK would consider it a word. That’s mild compared to some of the ones he come up with

it is not a matter of how many 3 point shots he takes

it is how many he misses and when he takes them. the transition 3 point shot or taking them at the begining of the half court offense is a bad idea. make the extra pass, get his feet set, get an open look AND FOLLOW THE SHOT. the heat check where he crosses the half court line and taking a shot with an opponent all over him is counter productive. urkel smith is too impulsive and inconsistent. he averages twice as many as melo who leads the nba in scoring.

Nugs fans that are hating on JR will be eating their words soon

That is my prediction. When JR gets out of this slump and starts taking over games again people will be sorry they were throwing him in trade ideas and hating on his game.

I still think he should be starting

So Teams won’t be so quick to double team Melo

I totally agree with you on this one, for once

JR is still developing, and he is already the 3rd best offensive player on the team. His passing and rebounding have improved this season, and I don’t care what anybody says, his defense is SOLID this season. He gambles sometimes, but so do most guards.

How long has he been developing?

I’m pretty tired of waiting. My theory is, JR has already been in the league for 6 years. What we see is what we get. Sure, maybe down the road he will mature a bit and MAYBE average close to 20ppg and play smarter, etc., but all I know is I sure as hell am not getting my hopes up after seeing him play now for 4 years.

STIFF LIST (as of 2/7 by Andrew Feinstein)

1. THE NUGGETS AT HOME
How is it possible that a Nuggets team with this much talent can be 7-5 at home?! Things have gotten so bad that fans are clamoring for J.R. Smith to return.

2. CARMELO ANTHONY
Kobe Bryant plays through any and all ailments. Melo uses any and ailments as an excuse not to play.

3. KEVIN LOVE
Just when the T'Wolves are looking better, Love stomps on Luis Scola and lands himself a two-game suspension.

4. CHARLOTTE BOBCATS
The 'Cats have lost 11 straight and are now 3-21 ... in the Eastern Conference! This is what happens when you let an underwear salesman with a Hitler mustache run your team.

5. MIKE BROWN
Dr. Bunsen Honeydew (Google it!) got himself a one-game suspension for making contact with a referee.
