Using the trade exception to pick up Monta Ellis

Recently I have read here http://nba.fanhouse.com/2009/09/28/warriors-monta-ellis-says-he-cant-play-alongside-stephen-curry/ that Ellis said that him and curry would not work, which got me thinking. With Ellis at the 2 or subbing in for J.R. and CB at point guard we could be a pretty dangerous team. Also it would improve our  bench. What do you guys think. Also I am still not sure how the trade exception thing works, so just tell me if this is not possible.

no way

last thing denver needs is a head case with a bad contract. ellis signs a big contract a year ago. he screws up his ankle riding a motor scooter than lies about it saying he twisted it in a pick up game. whatever his contract is and it may be for 10 million a year than double it because denver is over the tax limit. money aside the nugs are good to go at guard except for jr’s 7 game suspension. if ellis is having major problems starting with a guy he has not played in a single game with just wait until he is riding the bench. warriors can keep stephen jackson and his bad contract too. they give him an extension and less than a year later he wants to be traded. nugs need that stuff like a hole in the head.

lets get Jax instead

we don’t need monta for the exact reasons nohoops4u pointed out. he is a loose cannon, injury prone and with a big contract. i like how monta plays tho. he is exicting.. Ty Lawson would not get any time if we got Ellis. we are better off getting Stephen Jackson. i don"t know how big his contract is tho. Jax is better at D and he is more of a veteran. he would probably accept coming off the bench and playing the 6th man role.

Agreed

Jax wants out and he wants to play for a contender. But I doubt we will even use our trade exception although Stephen is owed 7.6 mil which I think he is worth. Anyway, we would have to match that dollar for dollar and as much as I want it I’m not the guy paying the contracts and Stan probably wont go for it.

I agree as well

I like Stephen Jackson for some reason. I don’t know, I think he is one of the most underrated players in this league. And for 7 mil a year he is def worth it. I think he would fit in perfectly with the Nuggets. We should use our TE on him, imo.

JR would be fine in the scoring bench role for one more year

Jackson is still a bit better than JR at this point and it would be a waste to bring him off the bench. He’s a guy you put on Kobe Bryant or any of the game’s leading swing men and he also brings great post offense for a swing man. Jackson is one of the most versatile players in the game as he can handle the point or an offensive post position. He can hit the three and can also be very effective slashing to the basket. He is an absolute dream scenario for the Nuggets but there is probably no way the FO brings him in. I think if the Nugs were to add him we’d have a very good chance of watching the Nuggets versus Celtics in the NBA finals in 2010.

jacked up

warriors coach don nelson is the 2nd winningest coach in nba history, 3 time nba coach of the year, played on 5 celtic nba champioship teams, one of the best nba 6th man and a 2 time all american at iowa where he averaged more than 20 points and 10 rebounds. as a coach he invented the point forward, hack-a shaq and run tmc (hardaway, richmond and mullins). stephen jackson was allowed to walk away from the nba champion spurs for no compensation, traded by atlanta to indiana, followed ron artest into the stands at detroit and was suspended, then fired off a hand gun during a fight out side a strip club. don nelson stepped up and traded for him while felony gun charges were still pending. the warriors pulled off one of the biggest upsets in nba play off history against the mavericks and coach nelson signs him to a 3 year extension. this is how captain jack pays you back. it is safe to say don nelson knows a thing or two about basketball. too bad he made the huge mistake of trusting and putting his faith and the warriors’ millions of dollars into these two guys. jackson has pissed away every great opportunity he was given.

okay, but our bench is not deep at all. we need a scorer coming off with kleiza in europe.

And you want Monta Ellis?

Have you even watched him? He’s a wannabe point guard who won’t come off the bench. Thing is, he’ll impede the growth of Ty Lawson and make J.R. unhappy about his minutes (again…).

I’d MUCH rather have Stephen Curry I’d MUCH rather have Kelenna Azubuike and his 14.4 points with a 44.8% mark form the 3-ball. He also gets 5 boards per game.

Ellis is also a product of Nelson’s system, which I know sounds contradictory since I suggested we go after Barbosa, but at least Barbosa has an outside shot (ellis does not) and is okay with coming off the bench and is just in general, not a attitude problem. You can find a ton of players similar to Ellis in this league but probably for cheaper prices (i.e. Barbosa! ha!)

Suns will want something in return (preferably a front-court player)

And I really don’t want Ellis. If we aren’t getting McCants (who needs to stay away from the court until he can get his head/shot-selection straight), then we shouldn’t get Ellis.

Jerryd Bayless

He’s the cheaper and younger version of Ellis, and can probably shoot better. Him and Lawson are just buried under some veterans who probably should play less.

He's intriguing when you consider his relatively modest salary

However, he’s been a trade killer so far, which means that Portland really doesn’t wanna get rid of him, even though he’d not really in their plans.

STIFF LIST (as of 2/7 by Andrew Feinstein)

1. THE NUGGETS AT HOME
How is it possible that a Nuggets team with this much talent can be 7-5 at home?! Things have gotten so bad that fans are clamoring for J.R. Smith to return.

2. CARMELO ANTHONY
Kobe Bryant plays through any and all ailments. Melo uses any and ailments as an excuse not to play.

3. KEVIN LOVE
Just when the T'Wolves are looking better, Love stomps on Luis Scola and lands himself a two-game suspension.

4. CHARLOTTE BOBCATS
The 'Cats have lost 11 straight and are now 3-21 ... in the Eastern Conference! This is what happens when you let an underwear salesman with a Hitler mustache run your team.

5. MIKE BROWN
Dr. Bunsen Honeydew (Google it!) got himself a one-game suspension for making contact with a referee.
