Nuggets re-sign Anthony Carter
We can officially put to rest all the talk of who will be Denver's 3rd point guard. Let the complaining begin.

I'll be the first.
GOD DAMN IT! Another season of playing 4 on 5 on the offensive end of the floor for about 15-20 min per game. That and an ungodly amount of turnovers. Other then that, I’m stoked, LOL.

It’s to bad that these blind people can only listen to the radio because if they saw this sorry ass basketball player play they would know that resigning him is a big mistake.
Ty Lawson can learn from CB1 but wtf does the proven dud have to offer? Not a damn thing.
Why would any coach want AC to menitor another player? If he had game he wouldn’’t be a Nugget.
We could have gotten Head for less.
Sam?
I knew you would make it over some time.

Samiam was taken
@GN
I’ve been here just didn’t post.
I still don’t see how some think this guy can be a backup to a backup.
Why didn’t another team pick him up? BECAUSE HE IS A DUD.
No one except the Nuggets wanted to waste money on this non shooting, turnover pron POS
How are we going to chat during the broadcasting of the games?
We'll have a live game thread on here ...
Not the instant chat you were used to over at the old Denver Stiffs, but it’ll be in this same format and it updates in real time.

live game thread?
When will it be up and running or is it already installed somewhere here?
Any information would be appreciated?
They are exactly like this post. You just post like this in the comment section and it updates in real time.
Here is an example from Game 6 of the WCF.

The case FOR Anthony Carter's re-signing
Despite the complaints, Carter won’t be getting nearly as many minutes as last year with Ty Lawson. Despite his obvious flaws with his jump shot, aggressively errant passes and questionable decision making, he is a solid backup point guard. He’s a team player, unselfish on the court, doesn’t complain about minutes or shots, provides great energy off the bench with Chris Andersen and knows his role on the team. Having him and Chauncey Billups give this the back court more than 2 decades of NBA experience to help the rookie Lawson.
Also, Carter’s averaging nearly 5 assists per game off the bench in only 22 minutes a game, which put him near the top of the league in assists per 48 minutes.

I think A.C. is a decent back up guard as well ... I just know that he's not well liked around these parts.
Plus as mentioned by jmdeshazer perhaps A.C.’s minutes will be reduced.

I don't mind it at all
Sure he’s not the most talented, but he gets the other people involved and tries to push the tempo. His defense (When the Coach assigns him properly) is above average. He signed for the minimum, which is ok by me.
YES!
I like AC – and since everybody here seems to hate him – I like him even more.
in fact, fuck it, AC for president
For the veteran's minimum
What else can you ask for?

Not a fan...
but I do respect him. Not too angry about this because I think most of us expected it.
I did find the most interesting part of the article to be the news that JR Smith will be wearing #5 this season.

J.R. in #5 will definitely take some getting used to!

Why #5?
I just wonder. Same reason as KG in Boston? Or to honour Yakouba Diawara? I mean, J.R. is not the guy to “just pick what’s available”, should have a reason for this…
JR Smith
I thought he wanted to change his number to 23, or at least thats what he said earlier in the year.
I believe he used #23 in New Orleans with the Hornets
I also don’t understand #5. Maybe it’s the number of years he’s been in the league so far?
I'm Happy AC is back!
i love AC, he is a great player to have in the powder blue. he deserved to get re signed because he loves this club and he has really helped us over the last few years. and he can also teach ty lawson how the second unit runs!
welcome back AC!! I’m very happy that your back!!
No that bad
I don’t mind the re-singning. As Andrew pointed out a zillion times on the old DenverStiffs website: he plays his heart out every night, doesn’t complain and I think he is good for the balance of the team. He’s also got enough tattoos to fit right in.
He gives a lot of effort for that vet’s minimum he is getting. Yeah I know that jumpshot is a little awkward, but if Carmelo had the same production per million dollars as AC does, he’d average 64 points a game.
You can’t blame Carter for being who he is, he is a very solid backup player. It’s not his fault that he is being counted on more than a usual backup should, but that is up to the coaches, as are drawing up inbounds plays. Nxt year with TyLaw on the squad, Carter will get minutes that might be more fitting to a player of his caliber.
True on the very last sentence.
And hopefully those minutes he gets are 0. Or maybe like 6 when the Nugs are blowing people out. Lawson is 100 times better and even if he just matches what AC puts out, then we know he is just going to get better.

We may not be thrilled but
Continuity and friendship have a big role here. From what I hear, basically everybody on the team likes the guy, including on the court so we novice amateur-hour experts can only see from afar the things we don’t like and have a hard time with the pluses that come with bringing back AC. Hey, if he’s the gel on this team, we need all that gel we can get… seemed to come in pretty handy last season.
Somebody should now tell him to paint his truck another color though… jesus… maybe it’s “money” green to him.
very good point...
As frustrated as AC makes me a lot of the time, I have never heard anyone from the organization say a bad word about him, so big ups on pointing that out. I am willing to acknowledge that I am nothing but a die-hard fan and do not know about 75% of the information that goes into running and maintaining a basketball franchise and team like the Nuggs. If everyone else from Melo to Cbill to GK to the FO are happy about having AC back, then I should be too. Thanks for the perspective stiffy.
by Nuggs Philosophizer on Aug 15, 2009 2:47 PM MDT up reply actions
yeah.
I guess I can sit well with that.

The resigning ain't bad...
AC is a true point guard who just happens to not be able to shoot and keep the ball from the opponent’s hands. He also seems to have trouble inbounding the ball, but if Karl plays his cards right AC will be no more than an injury substitute. Oh, and did you mean “let the complaining begin” instead of “let the complaining being”?
AC nice guy
When I met AC last season at the Nuggets “Sixth Man Jam” meet and greet, he, Birdman and Nene were the only ones who seemed genuinely interested in meeting the fans. AC and I talked for several minutes, and I think he’s a good ambassador for the team. The NBA needs more players of his character and personality, instead of the prima donnas who won’t sign an autograph for a kid.
Now in regards to his play, it’s a challenge to overlook his Western Conference Finals blubs, but everyone makes mistakes. We didn’t lose the series due to that one play… we lost because the team was, by Game 6, tired and didn’t have the motivation to take the series back to LA. AC was a good understudy to CB7, but the lineups on the floor were suspect. Blame Coach Karl as much as AC for poor assignments.
Lawson can learn from CB7 the grit and determination to continue to be a winner on the NBA level. He can learn from AC to be a gentleman and good person for the game. If it’s continuity that is the Nuggets’ goal this year, and Warkentien basically signed him for the veteran minimum, AC is a good fit for the 11th roster spot.

Excuse you
Niceness? Niceness! Is that part of the job description of a pro basketball player.
The ability to play basketball is.
AC can’t shoot, he turns the ball over more than a little bit. And his ability to play defense is OVERRATED. He should be paying the Nuggest for a seat on the bench.
Continuity flew out the window when T L was added and LK and D Jones left. Plus you have two more slots that are vacant.
dude
You dislike AC to the point where it is starting to be wierd
Wierd?
Call it what you want
what is your definition of wierd?
I say it’s being real. AC is the weakest link on the Nuggets team. Anyone without the use of brail can see it. And those who don’t confess it r living in denial.
All I can say is
who is a better 3rd PG than AC – is there even one player you would rather the Nugs have signed as a 3rd PG?
Read this
Can you read? Anybody else.
If you’re looking for specifics I’d take Bobby Jackson, Luther Head or Eddie House. All of which who have a better eff rating than ANTHONY CARTER. Please don’t give me that stuff about knowing a system. Anyone can tell you GK has no system or plays.
To take it a step futher I would like to have seen either Sonny Weems or Van Wafer play some pg as a backup to a backup.
Yes, yes. But AC can play defense
And seriously, it’s a third point guard. 5 minutes per game (garbage time), 10-12 only as an injury substitute. Sure, he’ll average like 0.8 points, 2 assists, and .3 TO’s, but do we care? GK better play Lawson ahead of AC though
"I shoot so many 3's because I can't shoot 4's"
Dude come on
I don’t know salaries – but would any of these guys have been available for the same type of deal (1 yr @ vets min)? I’m a big Bobby Jackson fan – but he isnt the kind of guy you bring in to get the rookie going – he would have definatly ate up some of Lawson’s minutes.
And as far as Sonny Weems or Van Wafer? that is a joke – these guys were honostly bad enough that they didnt make the team – and don’t say it is Karl’s doing or anything because they honestly play like shit. At least AC knows he can’t shoot – Sonny Weems couldn’t hit the side of a barn but he never saw a shot he didn’t like – just look at his FG% from Las Vegas.
Lawson is still a gamble weather you like to admit it or not – he may not be ready for a shit load of minutes yet and we are a legit franchise now. not the kind of franchise that is going to go without a plan B which is why we made the smart move and signed AC.
Give me a break
Bobby and Eddie are vets, they qualify for the vet min. With the Nuggets they stand a better chance at achieving a championship than with their present clubs.
If you could play and were a rookie and went to GK ‘s team you wouldn’t play either.
You talk about come on, you come on. Why would anyone want AC to mentor their rookie? I wouldn’t wish this fate on any rookie. AC as a mentor? I just puked.
Sonny Weems was in a slump. He did very well overall his stint in the D Leauge.
Van Wafer did well in Houston after leaving the Nuggets.
Lawson coming out of NC is better qualifed to be CB1’s backup than AC.
Look at AC’ s numbers for his entire ten years in the NBA. Pathetic
I agree that TL might get a little winded the first season, but BJ, LH or EH would do a better job than your boy
But what you are missing is....
None of those guys would willingly sign for a third point guard position.
by GottaLoveMelo on Aug 19, 2009 6:15 AM MDT up reply actions
Is that a fact
Or just your assumption We will never know
Well...
weather or not those guys would be better for our team is definatly debatable – and we are just going to have to agree to dissagree because we signed AC and not any of them. (I’m not including Weems or VW in this catagory because they honostly are not good enough to be our 12th man).
I have faith in the FO and am very incouraged by the way that everybody in the Nuggets organization, from the players on up, are happy to have AC back. I can see a lot of positives that he brings to the team – and I too am excited to have him back – ESPECIALLY to help mentor the rookie.
In the end, since we are both just fans, I think we have to concede that the if the players, coaches and the suit types are all thrilled to have AC – there must be a reason beyond the ones that I can point out.
Agreed
I’ll agree to disagree
I have one more issue to disbute.
You don’t know that everyone is happy to have him back. And…. If the suits, FO and all were so happy to have him back, why was he offered the vet minimum. The contract could have been sweetened a little bit more if they wanted to let him know that he was appreciated.
As you have so frequently stated...
he isn’t a superstar – and so he only earns the vet’s minimum.
From the article:
“It’s something we very much wanted,” Nuggets vice president of basketball operations, Mark Warkentien said. “There’s a lot of guys out there. But there was never any question that that’s the guy that George and the front office wanted. We’re thrilled. His loyalty towards George, (owner Stan) Kroenke and the organization is just amazing.”
and:
“Obviously he could have found a similar contract somewhere else,” Warkentien said. “But he wanted to be a Nugget, and thank goodness he is.”
we both know money is tight for the Nuggets right now, thankfully AC took the vets minimum because wanting to be a Nugget was more important than getting a similar deal somewhere else.
I wish we had a comprehensive, highly-effective playbook like the Spurs, Lakers, and Celtics do
Unfortunately, we don’t, and if you’re saying “well he knows the system”, we don’t really have a system. We don’t even have a damn inbounding pass (from under the basket). We also have a coach who was willing to let AC inbound against Odom. Now that AC’s back, I really darn hope GK doesn’t play AC in so many clutch-time moments when all we know he can do is pass and, since there are times in the FREAKING LAST MINUTE OF A CLOSE GAME that GK puts both Chauncey and AC at the same time, in which players just shoot over AC. Of course, this rant is more about GK than AC. GK is a top-15 active coach, and AC is one of the better third-tier PG’s in the league. I’m just worried GK overplays AC…again.
"I shoot so many 3's because I can't shoot 4's"
G A R B A G E
I read that garbage when he finally signed and I thought to myself what a crock of shit.
I also said to myself GK and AC just confirmed their love affair
Obviously he could have found a similar contract somewhere else, I doubt it.
This dud was looking for a muti year contract with some team. If it had been offered he would have been gone. I was so hoping that there was a FO dumber than the Nuggets and made him an offer he couldn’t refuse.
Nooooo0o0o00000ooooo000oooo
I thought you knew that algebra was all razzamatazz. A Globetrotter always saves the good algebra for the final minutes.

When solid backup NBA point guards that cost $1M/year grow on trees...
…I’ll join in the AC bashing. Until then, welcome back mate.
Solid backup your fat as
He’s not a solid backup that’s why he got the vet MINIMUM.
If you could have paid him less you would have.
How apprecitive is that?
