Odom's a Laker again now?
I just wanted to post my own thread, because it's what I begged Andrew to add to his site...
But seriously, I think this is pretty major... in a bad way for us. Artest might cause an implosion to inadvertently help us out, but all he did was replace Ariza so if he keeps quiet and plays his part, we're looking at that swap being the only significant change to that team. And it's debatable who's better between Ariza and Artest, but Odom is supposedly everyone's bff on that Laker squad so the gel factor is that much harder for Artest to disrupt (if he blatantly tries to, or just happens to by accident... because, you know... he's Ron Artest and all) now that Odom's back.

Terrible news
God I hate the Lakers with a passion. They’re just a pure spoiled franchise. I honestly think there is still a chance though that the Lakers get beat by a healthy Spurs team. Pop, imo, is a better coach than Phil and when Duncan is healthy he can rip Pao a new one. But I think Bynum is gonna be a lot of trouble and honestly I’m not that worried about Odom, he’s not that good but he’s definatly a great addition to that team. Even if they do make it past the Spurs though, the Cavs and Celtics could give them trouble. The Lakers probably have the best starting lineup in the NBA but they arn’t deep at all. Other teams with better depth could potentially give them trouble. This knocks us out of contention though for sure imo.
Lakers Bench
I think the lakers are pretty deep, Odom is coming off the bench, along with Vujacic, Walton, Jordan Farmar, and Shannon Brown. Those guys might not be big names, but they are shooters that can knock down shots, and have the space to shoot because of their starters. Regardless, even though I really like the Nuggets, in reality I don’t think what they have right now will be able to take out the lakers. In anyones book, they would probably say that Artest is better than Ariza, Artest is like borderline all-star talent. This Laker team is scary for at least another 3 years if the roster stays in tact.
I'm not really sold on the Celtics ... will be interesting to see how much gas is left in the old guys' tanks ...
And if Rajon Rondo being disliked by coach Doc Rivers and openly shopped in the offseason will have an effect on his play.

Odom is huge off the bench
but Farmar, Vujacic and Walton? Those guys are all terrible and hardly ever play. I like Brown a lot though.
Magic
Probably the only team that will seriously give the Lakers some trouble. I’m still not totally sold on the Celtics, or the Cavs where the Celtics are aging, and Shaq also aging. Really still wish the Nuggets made a few moves to bring in some 7 footers, or some pf’s that are 6’10 and up.
The lakers have two 7 footers who start, and Odom who is 6’10 and can rebound. Nene isn’t as tall as the listed 6’11 (probably an inch shorter), Martin is 6’9, and birdman is 6’10 (but he’s kind of too skinny, and gets pushed around by big men on the lakers). I’m still sold on trying to trade for both Maresse Speights, and Deandre Jordan. Using sign and trades, and using expiring contracts including players of Kleiza, Balkman, Hunter, Allen, and Petro. I’m sure we can somehow net those 2 and some of their other contracts with those 5 players.
Speights ... goes 6'10'' and 245 lbs.
He’s pretty skinny, but I recall him being a hard worker on the offensive end.
In just 16 minutes he averaged 7.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 0.71 blocks. Not bad for the guy who will be just 22 years old in a couple of days. I have no idea why the Sixers would get rid of him when they are trying to deal Salembert. The Sixers also are looking to go young as Elton Brand is the oldest player on the roster at 30.
Their core:
Lou Williams 22
Jrue Holiday 19
The other A.I. 25
Thad Young 21
Speights 21
But if the ink Hakim Warrick that may clog things a bit for Speights … though I doubt they land Warrick.

DeAndre Jordan ... 6'11'' 250 lbs.
Another big kid at just 21 years old. Again, not sure the Clippers would want to part with him since he’s so young and Camby is so old.
Averaged 4.3 points on 63% shooting, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.11 blocks in just 14 minutes.
The Clippers have an interesting blend of veterans like Camby, Kaman, and Baron Davis to go along with youngsters Al Thornton, Eric Gordan, Blake Griffin, and Bassy Telfair (and of course Jordan.)
The future looks bright in L.A. with a starting lineup someday of: Telfair, Gordan, Thornton, Griffin, and Jordan. If I were running things I hang onto Jordan.

Clippers
I agree that it’d be dumb to move a guy like Jordan who has all the tools but is just learning the game still. However, I have to disagree Nate, any future with Telfair in it doesn’t necessarily reek of brightness for me. But B-Diddy being there negates him for at least the next season or two.
And the futures never bright in La La Clipper land, especially with Sterling and Dunleavy manning the positions of power. LOL
Telfair ...
He did put up 9.8 points and 4.6 assists last season … but I agree he’s probably more of a semi-solid backup with that 38% FG shooting, but he’s only 24 years-old.
That Bill Simmons piece on the Clippers was pretty crazy. Check it out here … just bizarre!

For the price Deandre comes with there’s no way the Clippers trade him. They have him locked up for the next two years for roughly $800k per year. That’s a steal for a 7’0 big man with huge upside because he’s still so raw. I don’t think the Nuggets have anybody (that they’d be willing to part with) that the Clippers want in exchange for him either.
