Around SBN: Nevin Shapiro Vows To Bring Down Miami

WHAT THE @#$& HAPPENED?!!...

Dstiff_final-2-small_mediumIf you're a reader of Denver Stiffs or Pickaxe and Roll and notice that things look very different today, it's because we're proud to announce that Denver Stiffs is now Pickaxe and Roll, and Pickaxe and Roll is now Denver Stiffs.

Or something like that.

Simply put, we've merged two of the top three most read Nuggets blogs into one to bring you - Nuggets fans everywhere - what we hope will be the most in-depth and comprehensive Nuggets fan site around.

Star-divide

We've decided to merge for several reasons. First, although we have different personal ambitions in regards to writing about the Nuggets, we share the same goal: to make this site the preeminent source for all things Nuggets and the first online destination for Nuggets fans worldwide.

Second, we believe our skill sets make for a good match. Having just renewed his share of season tickets for 2009-10, Andrew will continue to comment on all things Nuggets as the "voice of the fan." Nate, on the other hand, aims to eventually bring the readers of this blog a unique perspective direct from Nuggets players, coaches and management not being covered elsewhere.

And finally, we feel that this combined site is the best possible forum for our readers to voice their opinions and commentary about the team we love. No two Nuggets blogs have better, more loyal - and more vocal! - readers than Denver Stiffs and Pickaxe and Roll. By bringing you together into one place, we'll have one of the most vibrant fan communities on the web for any team in any sport.

There will undoubtedly be some overlap and some hiccups along the way as we work through this new endeavor together. On simple things like game previews and recaps, we have agreed to split these up 50/50. But when trades or major Nuggets news breaks, we'll have to tackle them on a case-by-case basis and may often end up writing about the same topic periodically. We trust that you'll bear with us as we work all this out.

From a reader perspective, the new Denver Stiffs gives all readers the opportunity to engage in a more communal debate with Nuggets fans worldwide while also providing a forum for you to write your own articles whenever you want ... and have them commented on by us and your peers. Holdovers from Pickaxe and Roll are familiar with this process and have started to create their own original content more-and-more. The only caveat is that you must be a registered member (which is free and takes about 10 seconds to set up). No more "Anonymous" commenters, sorry!

From a layout perspective, we are working to set up the home page to be more "Deadspin-esque" - i.e. you'll see a sampling of all the current articles represented by a small image together with a sentence or two. This way, if either one of us writes a lengthy piece soon after another, we're not cannibalizing each other's content. Moreover, this will enable us to link out to other Nuggets-related content on the web without it pushing our own work way off the page.

Moving forward, we couldn't be more excited to work together and to bring our work to our collective group of fantastic readers. We hope you look at this site like we do: an ever-evolving forum for intelligent and passionate Nuggets talk with a unique perspective that can't be found anyplace else on the web. In the near future, expect to see more reader feedback columns, contests, Denver Stiffs T-shirts, and in-town events, too.

As always, we're open to any feedback, comments or criticism you may have as we continually look for ways to improve the new Denver Stiffs to best suit you, our valued readers.

Wish us luck as we move things forward, and collectively now....

GO NUGGETS!!

Kind regards,

Andrew and Nate

Have to get used to it… but site is looking good. :)

Off topic: is that Milwaukee trade official yet? If not, what’s holding it up?

Wow...

Hadn’t been here since the weekend; was very surprised when the page loaded.

I think this move is good for us Nuggets fans, looking forward to the new ‘Denver Stiffs’!

new site

i sure am glad you found a site that has more advertisements than the last one.

by spokenwar on Jul 28, 2009 7:22 AM MDT reply actions

About those ads...

Nate and I agree that the ads down the middle of the page are annoying. We’re going to push to have those removed. Also, the site’s look will evolve over time. But please send us any feedback any time that you think improves the site!

Nice

Good grief Andy! I’m gonna waste my whole lunch break eyeing the new site. Nate it’s nice to have you on board. Now I gotta remember a lot more reader handles.

Looks Great

Love the new look. Hopefully this will keep out some of the annoying lurkers who have no real input and are just looking to rile up the crowd.

Welcome to the team, Andrew

Nate’s a beast, and I know this will turn out well.

Thanks!

Thanks, Ziller. I’ve been a fan of your and Nate’s work for a long time and it’s going to be really fun to be here!

Love the Merger. Love the Logo.

Just want to say I love the new logo. And given the Nuggets are my western conference team, I look forward to the combined coverage for next season. Should be exciting.

Hey, great look to the new site. I am disappointed that there will no longer be any anonymous posters proposing that the nuggets trade Nene for Lebron James. Almost as glad as I am that Rasheed Wallace has signed so we don’t have to read about people proposing the nuggets sign him. Also, hopefully the signup process will reduce the number of Lakers fans posting to the site. Oh, and I can access the new site from my cell phone! I lost that with the old site when you added the live chat.

No kidding! Based on the comments, you would have thought Rasheed was 24 years old and MVP of the 2008-2009 season.

Gonna take me a minute

I guess I’m getting old. I don’t adjust well to change. LOL.

Never read Pick Axe but glad to have additional “inputters” and perspectives to go with the site that brought me to this Nuggets jambalaya here so I’m looking forward to a good read or two outta Nate (seems intelligible enough from what I’ve perused thus far!)

Seriously though, I was an advocate for expansion on the ol’ Stiffs site, but I guess I’m frustrated that I haven’t had enough time to poke around on here yet… Looks like lots of fun! Stay classy Denver!

Sums it up doesn't it!

That is a classic line which I am sure will make it’s way onto posts throughout the years! This will be good – I Can Feel It! I spent a lot of time clicking back and forth between you 2 so it will be nice to have both in one spot. I look forward to all the insight and am curious to know jealous you are of Andrew for his Summer League Experience?

by Shannon1127 on Jul 28, 2009 4:06 PM MDT up reply actions

Jealousy ...

I definitely would have liked to been out there for the Summer League as well.

I’m glad he got that experience and to meet as many people as possible, as it will only hopefully help this blog in time. Now had we not had this partnership going and he would have gained some great contacts that wouldn’t help a site I was contributing for … then I may have been jealous. ha.

"Intelligible Enough" ... THAT'S GOING ON MY BUSINESS CARD!!!

Well I’m glad you likey! Andy knows I sometimes come across ‘short on tact and class’ sometimes… which should be on my business card. Didn’t mean to diminish you in anyway on that post though. If you ‘pass muster’ (that’s a good one too) with Andy, you do with me too then… welcome to the family! (God that sounds gay!)

FINALLY!!!

Been waiting on this move for quite some time. From the looks of it, this thing is going to pan out very well. The new logo is probably the coolest of any SBN blog I have ever seen. I LOVE IT! This is like Marvel meets DC, the NBA meets the ABA, Freddy meets Jason (ok, maybe not that last one). I hope the team continues to get better and maybe sometime in the near future Karl will be relieved of his duties so we can finally make a serious push for the title (all my Denver Stiffs know where it’s at)! Again, congrats Andrew and Nate. Let’s get this party started!

AS a reader of almost all 4-5 Nuggets Blogs this is really cool. SB nations feature are definately heads above any other blogs available so putting the largest audience of Nugs fans will be cool. Not to mention we will now have some serious backup against the blazer horde on SB nation. ; )

How could any Nuggets fan not like this?

As an avid reader of both these blogs, I am very happy with this. Both Andrew and Nate are very knowledgable and this will provide a home base for everything Nuggets. Oh and no anonymous people is an awesome idea. I’ll be looking forward to this as well as the 2009-10 season.

by Nuggs Philosophizer on Jul 28, 2009 7:11 PM MDT reply actions

Die hard Nuggets fan

Honestly, i’m a little scared of this. I liked Denver Stiffs because there were only a dozen or so who regularly comented, so if you made a good statement or asked a good question, you got a good answer. With this many people, you are going to get too much input. And how many people are going to read all 80 comments? i was hoping for a blog, not a novel.

I hope it works, and i’m in for now. I just hope the overzealous (that’s probably spelled wrong) commenter who acts like a 14 year old on 25 jolt cola’s at 3 in the morning stears clear. I like quality input, not quantity.

by john11 on Jul 28, 2009 9:18 PM MDT reply actions

I'm with you on that

I see where you are comming from, but you have to remember that the Nuggets are STILL, after all their success, behind in popularity to the Broncos, Rockies and Avs for the most part. Not quite as many people follow the Nuggets, and basketball in general, so there won’t be as many people. Or at least that’s what I think.

by GoldenNugget on Jul 28, 2009 9:58 PM MDT up reply actions

nice

good work gents. Since I bounced back and fourth between both blogs, this will definitely be a time saver, and continue to provide the great commentary and up to the minute updates that I need for my Nuggs fix.

Content

This site will be better because of the merger, but I liked “Pickaxe and Roll” and I’m not too fond of “Stiffs” cause it’s not a very creative name like its predecessor. Oh well, c’est la vie!

STIFF LIST (as of 2/7 by Andrew Feinstein)

1. THE NUGGETS AT HOME
How is it possible that a Nuggets team with this much talent can be 7-5 at home?! Things have gotten so bad that fans are clamoring for J.R. Smith to return.

2. CARMELO ANTHONY
Kobe Bryant plays through any and all ailments. Melo uses any and ailments as an excuse not to play.

3. KEVIN LOVE
Just when the T'Wolves are looking better, Love stomps on Luis Scola and lands himself a two-game suspension.

4. CHARLOTTE BOBCATS
The 'Cats have lost 11 straight and are now 3-21 ... in the Eastern Conference! This is what happens when you let an underwear salesman with a Hitler mustache run your team.

5. MIKE BROWN
Dr. Bunsen Honeydew (Google it!) got himself a one-game suspension for making contact with a referee.
