Around SBN: NFL Owners Vote to Change Trade Deadline

Hakim Warrick

So I'm reading hoopshype this morning and it appears that the Grizzlies have rescinded their qualifying offer to Hakim Warrick thus making him an unrestricted free agent.  Here's the article...

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4354901

I think he'd be a great fit alongside Chris Andersen, and could occasionally start if necessary.  He's long, athletic and a good shotblocker and rebounder and can hit the mid range jumpshot.   I prithee that the Nuggets sign him.

Write respectfully of your SB Nation community and yourself.

yaa i said this a while ago...

cuz he is very similar to K Mart and could eventually replace him

DIdn't mean to steal your thunder...

just saw that he is now officially unrestricted and thought I’d bring it back up.

Memphis is willing to do a sign and trade and could use some veteran experience in the locker room coughMalikAllenorStevenHuntercough

Sign and trade plus add in Gasol?

I don’t know how that would work but I want it to happen.

I have always liked Warrick. Hopefuly we get him, but the way this offseason has gone I wouldn’t be the least bit suprised if we don’t even make a move for him.

Curse the internet for its inability to express tones!

~The Nuggets need to put that biannual exception to use on our man Hakim Warrick!

i didnt kno where to post this trade idea....

i heard that there are discussions about a possible deshawn stevenson for steven hunter trade….
i kinda like it if we lose weems….
but he has 2 yrs on his contract
(the offseason comment section was closed so i just posted it here)

I would welcome DeShawn...

He’s a lock down defender and a bit dirty which i like…I also love his arrogance. He’d be a good fit. He’s got good size at SG and anything is an upgrade over Steven Hunter.

by NugNugz on Jul 26, 2009 9:39 AM MDT up reply actions

o man i hope we get warrick

I think hed be a great fit for us. He and Melo already have played (and won) with each other, and i don’t think he’d be too expensive. fingers crossed

sign and trade for steven hunter would be great

by sleepydog on Jul 25, 2009 7:02 PM MDT reply actions

Warrick

Warrick would be a nice fit. Not sure if we could get him with the bi-annual but we could use our expirings in a sign and trade.

I think we could play him with Nene and or K-mart. If he’s on the floor with Birdman we would get pushed around down low. He has developed a nice mid range jumper and we could certainly use that.

by MeloNuggets on Jul 25, 2009 8:30 PM MDT reply actions

I have been followed Warrick since college

I think he would be a great fit in Denver, he is long and athletic plus he can run. He reminds me a lot of a younger K Mart but he needs to get stronger

by thundakat13 on Jul 25, 2009 8:31 PM MDT reply actions

supposedly

New Jersey is preparing to give him an offer… they have the full MLE
We should make a move now for him….
WE already missed on gooden(but he got overpaid so whatever)
O and supposedly the Olypiakos are going to offer kleiza a contract soon, but “not enough to make him join josh childress” —http://www.dgshi.cn/content/200907/261498.html

by hvino on Jul 26, 2009 9:38 AM MDT reply actions

I don't know

He would provide some bench scoring, but I wouldn’t see him starting at all, unless injuries dictated. His college shot blocking skills haven’t translated very well to the pros, and he is no better than Kmart as a rebounder. Not much of a playmaker as a forward, but would provide some good big man scoring.

by Kleiza's Corner on Jul 26, 2009 6:27 PM MDT reply actions

But are we looking for someone to start? I’m quite happy with a frontcourt of Melo, KMart and Nene? Warrick would be great insurance if there was an injury and great off the bench

by NugNugz on Jul 26, 2009 7:14 PM MDT up reply actions

Malik Allen

Well it blows he will be eating minutes at the backup PF spot next year when there are better impact players available. I do think he will play too otherwise the trade just makes no sense whatsoever. I think the Nugs will bring back AC and Kleiza, add Coby Karl and one more cheap big man, someone who can play Center. Then that could be it for the offseason if no deal can be found with the trade exception. It could be worse, we could have lost Birdman.

I agree with you guys though we need a young bruiser on the team, someone who can learn from Kenyon and perhaps replace him when his contract is up. Well hopefully all of the shrewd moves so far are setting up an opportunity for a trade.

Flip’s looking for a multi year deal. I’m not saying one way or another, but just fyi

by NugNugz on Jul 27, 2009 10:04 AM MDT up reply actions

We NEED to go after Warrick.

He would be a great fit on Denver, especially with the ridiculously athletic core around him. He’s tall, strong, and would be a better scorer (imo) off the bench than Kleiza, whose propensity to jack threes rather than push the tempo in the paint makes him more of a liability on a team already loaded with quality 3p shooters (Melo, Chauncey, JR, Afflalo).

I fully support pushing for Warrick. Sign and trade with Hunter, or use some of remaining trade exceptions for the guy. He’s a quality big and would serve as a great piece in a rotation with Birdman, Kmart and Nene.

Never left, Nate :)

Just been biding my time, watching the Rockies put together a surprising push for the offseason (as much as I think baseball is boring as shit), hoping the Nuggets make some quality moves.

I am psyched for Ty Lawson. Sure he’s short, but so is Chris Paul.

Well good to have your voicing your thoughts again.

Rocks are putting together a fine season. I hit the one game this weekend that they managed to lose (Friday night) … a gem by the Giants’ Matt Cain. I’ve always been a baseball fan and it’s great to have the home town team playing well.

Like a lot of others I’m also excited to see what Lawson can do. Sure he’s short, but he can dunk!

Sure he’s short, but so is Earl Boykins … wait …. I hate Earl Boykins. I’ll need to work on this.

Bob! Another seasoned Pickaxe and Roll voice.

I’m sort of surprised that Boykins name hasn’t been brought up until now … he’s floating around Italy. haha…probably not a popular choice.

Whatever happened in the Sonny Weems, and Walter Sharpe for Malik Allen trade? It doesn’t seem as if it was reported on nba.com (which of course would make it official)

by bodmiesta on Jul 27, 2009 5:10 PM MDT reply actions

The trade

apparently its been agreed to according to the Post, they are just waiting to sort out finances, salary cap numbers or roster space implications. Just like how the Zach Randolph trade took a long while to happen after it was announced in the news.

I’m still holding out hope that it doesn’t get done, at least in it’s current form. It probably will tho

by runningdonut on Jul 27, 2009 9:52 PM MDT up reply actions

View from Memphis

My initial reaction to Grizzlies giving up Hak was negative. He was a good player getting better, and one who adds great chemistry without being an old veteran clogging the bench.

Zach I know we don't love each other, but please don't punch me.

by djturtleface on Jul 28, 2009 7:39 AM MDT reply actions

Another big is off the market

Ike Diogu just signed with the Hornets. Not that he was really on our radar.

Rumor is that Warrick might be heading to (yuck) Milwaukee.

by NugNugz on Jul 29, 2009 1:54 PM MDT reply actions

It looks like Denver isn’t even going after Warrick. Apparently the teams interested are 76ers, Milwaukee and ugh Cleveland. I think Denver really screwed the pooch on this one.

by NugNugz on Jul 31, 2009 8:51 AM MDT reply actions

ya and what pisses me off...

Cleveland is only offering the Bi-Annual Exception, which we could offer that and even our 2.1 left on MLE he would chose us…. but we prob havent offered it.

by hvino on Jul 31, 2009 9:43 AM MDT up reply actions

so he picked Milwaukee of all places...

for I think a one year deal. This angers me because I know the Nuggets could’ve signed him for a one year deal and he could be playing for a contending team where he’d be getting some minutes. I’m not happy about this and hope that the Nuggets find a better back up 4 than Warrick, but I’m not holding my breath. I believe he would’ve been a solid contributor.

Is it too late to do Weems/Sharpe for Warrick?

STIFF LIST (as of 4/26 by Andrew Feinstein)

1. METTA WORLD PEACE

Metta resorted back to Ron Ron last Sunday by clubbing James Hardenwith an "inadvertent celebratory elbow", landing him a 7-game suspension. Apparently, changing his name didn't prevent NBA commissioner David Stern from overlooking Metta's past behavior problems.

2. CHARLOTTE BOBCATS

The 'Cats are on the verge of securing the worst winning percentage in NBA history. Given that the guy who runs the team - Michael Jordan - had previously drafted Kwame Brown and Adam Morrison, should this really be a shock?

3. OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER
The team that was supposedly built to overcome the lockout-shortened season managed to lose 7 of its last 14 games, ceding the Western Conference's 1-seed to the Spurs in the process. Their reward might be a first round matchup with defending champion Dallas.

4. BILLY HUNTER AND DEREK FISHER
With report after report coming out about NBPA union head Hunter's shady, nepotistic dealings and questions arising about Fisher's own role in dealing with NBA owners behind Hunter's back during the lockout, this off-the-court scandal could prove to be more exciting than the playoffs themselves!

5. STEVE NASH AND THE PHOENIX SUNS
The Suns are on this list for squandering the last few great seasons from Nash. Nash is on this list for his stupidly stubborn loyalty to a franchise as awful as the Suns.
