Nuggets trade for Arron Afflalo

Trade: As seen in the adjacent link, the Nuggets got Arron Afflalo and Walter Sharpe from the Pistons in exchange for a future 2nd round draft pick.

The move clears some cap space for Detroit.  I would think Detroit would be gun shy to make a deal with the Nuggets after last season and us getting Billups for Allen Iverson.  I am not real familiar with either player, but I think our management has been real good of late identifying talent and pieces to the puzzle with getting guys like Birdman and Jones, hopefully, this has the same effect.

Note  from Nate: Read up on Detroit's perspective on the deal on SB Nation's Detroit Pistons blog: Motown String Music.

Interesting!

I’m not particularly familiar with either player either. However, the guys at the Pistons SB Nation site had some positive things to say about both guys. They don’t seem too distraught about it though.

"C" is for Championship...that's good enough for meeeee!!!

GREAT Deal

Is Dumars just plain stupid, or does he just have some kind of infatuation with Warkentien and our Nuggets? I don’t get it. I know he wanted to clear cap space, he admitted that, but this was practically a steal. Afflalo is WAY better than Dahtay in all areas of the game. Wark deserves a lot of credit, he is doing a fantastic job. I can’t wait to see this guy in uniform. We are now one of, if not, the deepest teams in the league.

Affalo

He’s a young guy who’ll seemingly take the place of D. Jones as a good perimeter defender, but I believe he has a better shot than the aforementioned Jones. Might as well be a slight upgrade in my book! The other guy is probably just a throw in to relieve some cap for Detroit.

Affolo

I guess that means that he’ll be backing up JR Smith, and be the one providing us with defensive spark on the perimeter, and I’m assuming that Weems will back up Melo…I’m not quite sure Sharpe brings anything to the table though…i guess we have sharpe, hunter, petro, and kleiza to dangle around and see if we can get some pieces back (propose going after Speights on the 76ers and Jordan on the Clippers)

Sharpe might be headed for the D-League...

Get a good gauge on him before training camp starts… If not he’ll get released.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we end up with Kleiza again. Affalo is an upgrade from Dahntay Jones. I think they’re going to re-sign Johan Petro…

So for the game day lineup, we might have something like this

PG – Chauncey Billups, Ty Lawson, Anthony Carter
SG – J.R. Smith, Arron Affalo
SF – Carmelo Anthony, Linas Kleiza, Sonny Weems
PF – Kenyon Martin, Chris Andersen, Walter Sharpe/Renaldo Balkman
C – Nene, Johan Petro

If the FO/GK see something in Sharpe I think it might spell the end of the crimestopper…

That's a deep lineup

Also we got Hunter at C, although I don’t know if he’s gonna be healthy this season. If he is that just makes us that much more deep. You look at our lineup, and almost every one of the guys on our team could be put out on the floor at any given time except for Sharpe. The only thing that sucks is that we have a coach who likes to play one guy solid minutes rather than 2 guys. Still, we have tons of people to fall back on.

Trade

Still hoping that the Nuggets can maybe use Hunter, Kleiza, Petro, and Balkman to get back Speights from the Sixers, and Deandre Jordan from the Clippers…maybe we can even add Walter Sharpe to get those 2 on our roster

1. Hunter, and Petro for Jordan
2. Kleiza, Sharpe, Balkman for Speights
3. Sign Richard Hendrix from our summer league (he was like the second best rebounder over the d-league season).

Then our roster would look like this
PG – Chauncey Billups, Ty Lawson
SG – JR Smith, Aaron Affolo
SF – Carmelo Anthony, Sonny Weems
PF – Kenyon Martin, Maresse Speights, Richard Hendrix
C – Nene Halario, Chris Andersen, Deandre Jordan

He'd be dumb if he did

He wouldn’t be able to get half of what he makes on the open market.

kmart is smart enough to not opt out because he wont make 16mill if he did but if he wants a chapionship more than money then he will opt out cuz then we can sign more role players for our team

Aaron Afflalo

You guys are getting a work horse with UCLA pedigree. He’s as professional and hard working as you’ll find. He made his mark at UCLA with his great defense and amazing leadership. You are very lucky to have this young man on your roster.

THE STIFF LIST (as of 3/8 by Andrew)

STIFF #1: K-MART'S LEFT KNEE
Best-case scenario, K-Mart misses another week or two with a sore knee.  Worst-case, he's done for the season with knee surgery.

STIFF #2: RON ARTEST
Nice hairdo.  'Nuff said.

STIFF #3: JOEL PRYZBILLA
The Blazers backup center re-injured his surgically repaired right knee after slipping in the shower.  Now we're just waiting for Greg Oden to slip on a banana peel.

STIFF #4: CAVALIERS FANS
Recently set the world record for the largest gathering of people wearing fleece blankets - i.e. Snuggies.  Really?!  This is worthy of a world record?!

STIFF #5: BOSTON CELTICS
Losing to the pathetic Nets and almost losing to the Wizards is one thing.  But to do so at home within a week of each other...now that's an art.  I think it's safe to assume the Celtics are going nowhere in this year's playoffs.
