Nuggets trade up for Ty Lawson

I'll post a link when official, but ESPN is reporting it's real. Minnie gets Charlotte's future first round pick (protected for top 12 in 2010).

I believe we just stole Ty Lawson from the Jazz and the Hornets who wanted a PG and probably Lawson. I feel pretty great about this pick, of all the draft prospects Lawson seems very much ready to go right away. What's funny is last year, there were rumors the Nuggets made a promise to Ty Lawson with #20. When he went back to school, they traded the pick to Charlotte, only to eventually turn that pick back into Lawson a year later. Fuck yes.

We still have pick #34

Take the best player available, either for keeping him or a trade chip to dump Hunter

I'm really excited about this trade

If we can get a physical interior defender who has even a little bit of a post up game at #34, I’d be thrilled.

I have no idea what Wark is gonna do with that pick…

take Dejuan Blair lol

The draft got very wacky after #20

I wanted the Nugs to get Taj Gibson or Victor Claver at 34, but they already gone!?!?!?

I wonder if Wark will use #34 to dump Hunter.

34th pick

Kind of bummed the Nuggets just gave that pick away from cash…i thought they should have drafted patrick mills for competition purposes, or jonas jerebko (which is kind of like kleiza, in which we should trade away to get some pf that may be a good future pf)…

Lawson

I think he’s a pretty good player, but in terms of what i was thinking…they traded their lottery pick from next year to get this pick (unless the bobcats get a lot better, or become worse than the 12th position which i feel they will accomplish)…regardless, i feel like we could have gotten a lottery pick in a better draft, which was nice thinking about. Then again the nuggets were trying to get Lawson last year, and probably traded their pick because he was returning to school, so if the Nuggets goal was to get Lawson, then I guess it makes sense? Either way I think they should have tried to trade Kleiza for Lawson, and keep their pick drafting blair, mills, jerebko…there were a lot of players that fell.

I see your point, but I think the Bobcats surprise some folks next year and make a playoff push.

That is not as bad of a team as first thought now that they have Gerald Wallace, Raymond Felton, DJ Augustine, Raja Bell, Emeka Okafor, Boris Diaw, the rookie Hendersen, and perhaps Allen Iverson.

Nugs are in "win now " mode

Lawson is definitely a risk, and the main problem I see is he’s undersized and his steals won’t carry over to the NBA, so he’s probably going to get beat alot. But the beauty of it is he only needs to become an heir-apparent for AC right now, not Chauncey. CB7 has a lot left and I’m sure he’ll try to help Ty become great. I’d trade a million lottery picks for a championship, and being proactive in moving up this year proves we’re going for that sooner rather than later.

Bobcats

I see your point, the Bobcats don’t seem that bad, but the top of the East seemed to have gotten better with the carter trade, and shaq trade…i suppose only time will tell
Anyways, does anyone know the possibly of linas kleiza, and steven hunter being traded? I was hoping that they can get a young contributor that can play pf, or c (I like birdman, but i think he’s a bit overrated, i don’t like his offense, and his defense is a bit overrated just because he blocks a lot of shots doesn’t mean he has great defense)

I really like this pick guys.

I thought Lawson was the best all-around PG in this draft and brings the most experience of any of the others. He is a proven winner and leader, taking UNC to the National Championship. He will learn behind one of the smartest and most consistent PGs in the league the last 8 years, Billups, and still have an opportunity to succeed with a young team in the future. Great pick guys.

You have to hate losing more than you love winning.

THE STIFF LIST (as of 3/8 by Andrew)

STIFF #1: K-MART'S LEFT KNEE
Best-case scenario, K-Mart misses another week or two with a sore knee.  Worst-case, he's done for the season with knee surgery.

STIFF #2: RON ARTEST
Nice hairdo.  'Nuff said.

STIFF #3: JOEL PRYZBILLA
The Blazers backup center re-injured his surgically repaired right knee after slipping in the shower.  Now we're just waiting for Greg Oden to slip on a banana peel.

STIFF #4: CAVALIERS FANS
Recently set the world record for the largest gathering of people wearing fleece blankets - i.e. Snuggies.  Really?!  This is worthy of a world record?!

STIFF #5: BOSTON CELTICS
Losing to the pathetic Nets and almost losing to the Wizards is one thing.  But to do so at home within a week of each other...now that's an art.  I think it's safe to assume the Celtics are going nowhere in this year's playoffs.
