Draft 09
All the spec about getting a back-up point guard through FA, for once we should look to the draft. Looking at some boards here Patty Mills is right there for us to take at 34. Now i dont want to put the weight of the back up spot on a Finals contender on the back of Mills, but anybody who watched this kid play knows hes got skills. We have drafted poorly since Mr. Anthony and looking at the guys there at Number 34 we can get a solid role player. Ill be at the MSG on Thursday reppin the West Coast

Don't count on the pick
The Nuggets haven’t built through the draft in a long time, and their picks have been used as money movers for juggling all the salary we currently have. We traded away their first rounder last year because of money problems, carrying too much salary going forward and not wanting to be stuck with a 4 year contract for an unknown. The last time the Nuggets didn’t make any trades, kept their own pick and used it was in 2003 for selecting Melo.
There will be a good PG to come out of the second round, but finding him is a huge gamble. I would feel better about grabbing a better prospect in the first round but the Nugs are lacking trade chips to do that and don’t want to be stuck with the guaranteed contract. Remember, this draft is supposed to be weaker than last years, and last years was not mind-blowingly awesome. I’m fine with drafting a PG and taking a look at him in summer league, but realistically you can’t expect to get an impact player for this team on a second round draft pick.
sum prospects supposedly
ive heard that the nuggets are considering marcus thorton, patty mills, and victor claver or that guy i think omri cassipi or darren collison
PG...
I agree with you running, im not sold on giving the back up spot on a western contender to Pat Mills or Collison, but if they do take the pick and not take one of the skilled points that will be there i will be furious.
Melooooooo
Austin Daye...
I know its alittle of a reach and hes not a needed position, but i have been following this kid Austin Daye for the Zags since High School, the kid is a 7 foot Small Forward. He lacks strength and the killer instinct and probably will not fall to our pick, but he has All Star potential if he wants. If he is there at 34 i take him in a heart beat
Melooooooo
For Austin Daye to fall out of the first round all the way to 34 would require a basketball miracle. I like him a lot too, an unpolished but solid offensive talent. He’s probably coming into the draft a year too early, but I could easily see him being a very good pro.
With this draft and the Nugs needing a PG a mid-to-late first round pick could be really useful. But sticking with #34 I think the Nugs should target Patty Mills, Rodrique Beaubois, Darren Collisson or Lester Hudson.
PG's possibly available at 34
looking at 34 there would be a chance at darren collison, patrick mills, rodrigue beaubois, aj price (ish), that might be worth drafting.
i think beaubois has the most potential there, and mills would probably have the best scoring ability, and collison the best defense.
victor claver looks athletic in highlights, and dunk contest mixes which fits well into denver’s athletic team (and can maybe replace kleiza if we trade him for a point guard instead), jonas jerebko, maybe? any takes?
Mills
My first choice would be Patty Mills although I think he will be gone before #34. Then I would probably go with Rodrique Beaubois or Victor Claver and let them play a year overseas before bringing them in. This is because I don’t trust a second rounder to play right away on the Nuggets a team that should be contending for a top seed in the playoffs. I checked out Claver and he looks like a solid SF or PF, a guy who could play behind K-Mart if he can play defense against NBA players. The Nugs really need to get a scoring big to play behind K-Mart so he can play less minutes and stay healthy. Plus I don’t think Kenyon will ever develop into a legit offensive force.
It’s obvious we need a PG badly but when I look at guys like Price and Collison I would rather get a free agent with some experience and have them on as 3rd stringers.

Future PG
It’s usually pretty hard to find 2nd rounders or undrafted players that end up really good…however, there might be some luck out there as i recall gilbert arenas, michael redd, rashard lewis were all second round picks and were all stars…birdman wasn’t even drafted, so there’s definately still some talent out there beyond the lottery of the first round…and plus, we might be able to sign a free agent like shannon brown or cj watson for the time being, and draft or trade for a pg for the future another year. no rush
Yeah, but if there is something there, management has to pull the trigger
they have been a bit passive in the draft over the past five years, but I can’t complain with last year’s offseason decisions.
