Golden Nuggets: Game 2 Links
I haven't offered a link dump for quite some time in this format ... so let's get to it.
-Josh Tucker from Silver Screen and Roll offers some nice insight into last night's game from the Lakers perspective. A snippet:
This felt like a bad loss. It left a bad taste in my mouth, felt like the Lakers gave away the game. The Lakers should have won. Don't you agree?
Then I took another look at the box score. It wasn't what I had expected. The numbers said the Lakers and Nuggets played a fairly even game. Nearly identical, in fact. It shouldn't have been that big a surprise, considering how close the final score was.
-Andrew from Denver Stiffs asks if it's time for a Melo puppet.
Pardon my lame attempt to create a Carmelo Anthony puppet (pictured to the left) to rival the Kobe Bryant and LeBron James versions being shown endlessly these days, but the F.A.O. Schwartz custom Muppet maker has very limited options and this was the best I could do.
At least the suit is a dead ringer for an item in Melo's wardrobe.
-Nick the Nugg Doctor shares his thoughts that are on the tip of a lot of people's tongue:
What's amazing is now after two games, in L.A. nonetheless, I truly do feel that the Nuggets are the team to beat with the series moving to Denver after the Lakers were fortunate to escape with game one.
-Jeremy at Roundball Mining Company offers his awesome detailed analysis:
Things slowly began to turn around in the middle of the second quarter. The catalyst was Carmelo Anthony. Melo started the game 1-6, but somehow willed himself into the zone (at least inside the three point arc). With the Nuggets down 14 Melo came out of a timeout and proceeded to pour in the Nuggets next 14 points in order to ensure they did not fall further behind.
-ESPN's Daily Dime is full of all sorts of Nuggets vs. Lakers chat.
During that Nuggets spurt, Kleiza stroked a huge 3-pointer to trim the Lakers' lead to single-digits, worked his way to the line for a pair of free throws and collected four rebounds -- all in the span of about two minutes.
-The Denver Post headlines seem to show the hometown paper has come back to their senses.
From Kiszla's article:
When all looked lost for the Nuggets, in a city built on big cinematic moments, forward Carmelo Anthony delivered the line destined to define this Denver team that refuses to give up on its crazy championship dream.
It's great to hear everybody talking about this Nuggets team. At my apartment complex many-a-fans were out on their balcony's after the game cheering and yelling. Just like Rocktober ... this town has gone sports mad and it's all about our Nuggets. And this team is no fluke!

I liked Josh’s take on SS&R. Much better than all of the “refs cost us this game” takes over there. Which were quite laughable.

You may not have seen this on tv...
but there were a couple of times when Kobe put the ball into a backpack and hiked into the paint… The refs missed at least three traveling calls… Fair is fair!

It's not the Lakers I hate with every bone in my body, it's just the players and their fans.
On the possession before his last big 3
First it looked like maybe there should have been a jump ball called, but when he freed himself, he clearly travelled. No call. He ends up hitting a big 3 to keep the Lakers in the game. Imo that was much bigger than the missed lane violation.

Just west of Broadway, it appears a Nuggets fan, or fans, tagged at least 10 stop signs within a two-block area.

By the way, I'm a Lakers fan
But if I find something other teams might enjoy, I like to share.
Kobe is a very emotional player during the game, but you will not see him complain about officiating once the game is over.

very kind of you to share
and I agree that Kobe does not whine after games. Nor does he whine during games nearly as much as Gasol, in general.

This one is a must read profile on Billups
Although I’m sure someone here must have linked it already, I’ll do it again, because it’s that good and in-depth.

I really have no problem with Lakers fans or any other fan posting on Pickaxe and Roll.
I really just had an problem with pslakerfan. Most of his post were subtly condescending and that tends to rub me the wrong way. His post always had a “surely you’re not that dumb, misinformed, ignorant, etc” tone to them and I have little tolerance for that. I find it funny that he found it necessary to respond to nearly every post after a Lakers win and now he’s nowhere to be found.

I kind of agree with Josh Tucker’s take. I’m still a little surprised that we won that game. It felt like we were down and outplayed for the whole game. As he mentioned, it felt like the opposite of game one where we outplayed the Lakers and lost. A win is a win though…and I’ll definitely take it.

Early line has you 4 pt. favorites at home
Wonder which Lakers team will show up Saturday?
Proud member of Duck nation!
2 more things that I thought were interesting during the game....
Jack Nicholson has courtside seats and George Karl knows it. Karl wandered out in front of him dozens of times during the game (think John McCain in that one debate). Jack would bob and wave trying to look aroung our girthly (is that a word?) coach. You know it’s got to irritate ol’ Jack… It’s like having someone standing in front of your TV but you can do nothing about it. Really really funny to see from our seats.
The other thing that was odd was on our way out the door they had people handing out little leaflets… Upon inspection, they were advertising the WWE event that had been moved from Pepsi to Staples. First off, this is the wrong crowd to be giving these to. Having effectively priced the WWE demographic out of attending Laker games, I thought it even odder that they were promoting an event that would compete with watching game 4… Laker fan may be a bandwagon jumper, but I’m 90,000% certain that they’d never put watching two roided up yahoos roll around together on the floor over watching the Lakers in the WCF… Weird promotion….

Both of those are truly hilarious
but the multiple angles of irony on the WWE pamphlets are juicy

If you can't get enough stuff to read about Game 2 and can stand my Lakersy intro, here's the jump to my links page on SS&R.
Game 2 Recap — The View from Denver…
There will be “View from Denver…” stuff before and after every game for as long as this series runs so you might want to pay a daily visit, assuming the purple-and-gold doesn’t make you blow chips…
