Kleiza playing with broken thumb

Linas Kleiza played 14 minutes yesterday with a broken thumb in his right shooting hand.

Perhaps this is why his shooting touch has been a bit off?

From the Nuggets Briefs section of today's Denver Post (paper version):

The Nuggets forward declined to say how he hurt it. It is not an on-court injury.

He did not practice Friday because of it. According to Nuggets athletic trainer Jim Gillen, the fracture is at the tip of the thumb and Kleiza is considered day-to-day.

I'd like to see LK healthy going forward as he may have to step out on the floor like he did in Game 3 and play some extended minutes in crucial minutes.

More on the non-call heard round the world:

Watching TNT's pregame show tonight (before Game 4 of the Celtics/Magic game), Charles Barkley pointed out an interesting tidbit along with rolling replay of Melo's final shot.

Barkley had viewers focus on Mark Wunderlich and pointed out how Wunderlich was watching Melo's feet as Melo got close to the three point line to make sure he was behind the three-point line. Sure enough, Wunderlich's head was tilted down and he indeed appeared to be focused on Melo's feet.

All the more reason you'd hope Wright would have bear hugged Melo on that final play and not left the foul call up to chance, which as we've all seen in the NBA countless times will have mixed results.

This viewing that Barkley pointed out gave all the more reason to how Wunderlich didn't see Wright's hack. I believe that Wright's throwing up of his arms and the fact that he was behind Melo with other officials not in the best line of view all played a part to the perfect storm of that foul not getting called.

Houston evens things up 2-2 with the Lakers winning Game 4, 99-87

I was attending the Rockies vs. Marlins game with my family today for Mother's Day. Again, Happy Mother's day mom! We enjoyed brunch at Coors Field before the game and I enjoyed some tasty prime rib and other wonderful food.

Anyhow, I had two of my buddies sending me texts throughout and couldn't believe Houston was up by as many as 29 in the game without Yao. I wish I would have seen that one. These highlights should do.

Talk about resilient. Check out The Dream Shake for more on the Rockets win. Or what went wrong for L.A. on Silver Screen and Roll.

I heard

That Kleiza broke his thumb “slamming it in a car door”, which is all too laughably believable for everyone’s favorite bumbling Lithuanian.

yup

They said it during the game 3 broadcast. LK doesnt seem like the sharpest knife in the drawer.

Nice post

Thanks for highlighting that interesting bit on TNT today about the overblown non-call of the non-foul.

You knwo what's really retarded?

That even with a broken thumb, Karl chose to play him over Balkman.

What the fuck.

The broken thumb may explain this

But what is the explanation for Kleiza’s putrid play the rest of the season? The only single solitary thing I have been upset with this postseason is seeing Kleiza get any minutes at all with Balkman on the bench. Kleiza provides absolutely nothing of substance if his shot isn’t falling, and his shot hasn’t been falling for quite some time now.

Yes, I was sort of being sarcastic ...

I’ve given up trying to figure out what is keeping LK back. I’d have to point to lack of development.

The guy just hasn’t worked on his game hard enough in my eyes. He has no reliable jump shot, can only drive to his right, and still is only a spot up three-ball guy. That and the fact that he is not showing improvement on the defensive end.

Been a sad year for LK.

That story makes a little more sense..

than Radmanovic’s when he said he fell on a patch of ice while walking.
But just a little.

"There were arms coming from everywhere, and I knew they weren’t going for the ball," Miller said. "I was just trying to get [the shot] up before they called some crap like ‘on the ground.’ "

"What do you want me to do?" Wright asked. "Do you want me to Derek Fisher him?"

Watching the three point line?

Hate to beat a dead topic into the ground, but I wonder if this play will change the technique refs use to make the 3-point determination. It seems like this is a situation in which the league has not yet fully caught up with its own technology because they have been using video review to check 3-point shots for a while now. It would seem the Wunderlich (and all refs) should now be taught to bascially ignore (or not focus on as much) watching the three line (which they can simply review – and actually did on Sunday), especially at points in the game when the contact is really the primary thing you want to focus on.

STIFF LIST (as of 4/26 by Andrew Feinstein)

1. METTA WORLD PEACE

Metta resorted back to Ron Ron last Sunday by clubbing James Hardenwith an "inadvertent celebratory elbow", landing him a 7-game suspension. Apparently, changing his name didn't prevent NBA commissioner David Stern from overlooking Metta's past behavior problems.

2. CHARLOTTE BOBCATS

The 'Cats are on the verge of securing the worst winning percentage in NBA history. Given that the guy who runs the team - Michael Jordan - had previously drafted Kwame Brown and Adam Morrison, should this really be a shock?

3. OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER
The team that was supposedly built to overcome the lockout-shortened season managed to lose 7 of its last 14 games, ceding the Western Conference's 1-seed to the Spurs in the process. Their reward might be a first round matchup with defending champion Dallas.

4. BILLY HUNTER AND DEREK FISHER
With report after report coming out about NBPA union head Hunter's shady, nepotistic dealings and questions arising about Fisher's own role in dealing with NBA owners behind Hunter's back during the lockout, this off-the-court scandal could prove to be more exciting than the playoffs themselves!

5. STEVE NASH AND THE PHOENIX SUNS
The Suns are on this list for squandering the last few great seasons from Nash. Nash is on this list for his stupidly stubborn loyalty to a franchise as awful as the Suns.
