on Billups
Okay so before he gets to the Pistons, they lose in the conference semifinals. Then it’s:
Conference finals
League champions
League runners-up (lost in a game 7 to a team with Tim Freaking Duncan)
Conference finals (lost to eventual champs, with 2 HOFers)
Conference finals
Conference finals (lost to a team with possibly 3 HOFers)
Then the year after he’s gone, it’s almost 100% certainly a first-round playoff loss.
Then Denver. Before he gets here it’s four playoff wins in 5 years, never home court advantage. He gets here, it’s the #2 seed, two blowouts in two games, and if they make the conference finals yet again (oh please please please please please!), you will have to do a lot of talking to convince me that CB is not a HOFer.
I mean, Andrade in his ESPN chat today said the 03-04 Pistons are the only team to win a championship in the last 3 decades without a Hall of Famer. Sorry but what, exactly, did Joe Dumars accomplish that Chauncey Billups hasn’t? The only thing I can see is that second championship and a couple of seasons averaging over 20 points/game. But if his team can win 6 more playoff games this year, he has to be moved way, way up in consideration.
