Around SBN: How A Letter From Tom Coughlin Helped One Fan's Recovery

The Nuggets Big move of the Offseason:

Bring in  Raymond Felton from Charlotte.

Raymond Felton
The guy I'd pursue this summer if I ran an NBA team. Ten weeks of trade rumors bounced off him and he never held a grudge. He has lottery pick pedigree (fifth overall in 2005), and if we've learned anything over the years, it's that many blue-chip point guards take awhile to "ferment" (for lack of a better word). He's one of the five or six best people in the league by all accounts. I've never seen a Bobcats game where he didn't play as hard as he could. The arc of his first four years looks exactly like Chauncey Billups, and like Chauncey, his game will open up once he starts making 3s. Just a lot to like. Someone will steal him this summer just like Detroit stole Billups in 2002. You watch.

Ok, but how can you bring him?

Who are you gonna give for him?

Will they accept that trade?

Sounds great, but it is hard to make…

Nuggets

Give: Steven Hunter, Sonny Weems, 2nd Round Draft Pick

Get: Raymond Felton, Alex Ajincia (or whatever) Cash Considerations

They get an athletic defender in Weems, cap relief from Hunter’s contract, and a chance to bring in an early 2nd rounder (I forget what our pick is this year, like 36?)

We get leadership off the bench, which we don’t currently have, aside from Anthony Carter and Kenyon when he is in a suit and we also get a possible heir apparent to Billups.

I don't know

I haven’t watched him much. He struggled bad at the start of the season. He seems like a jump shooter and we have plenty of those. The guy writing the article seems overly high on him.

I think Charlotte would deal him because Augustin needs to play

I just think

He has a kind of calm, humble confidence and persistence. He is passionate about what he does, and it reflects in his game. I’ve watched him play a bit, and he is more than capable of slashing and finishing at the rim, and he is an underrated passer.

Its true he has a lot to prove, but if we could give up LK, Steven Hunter, etc. to get him, why not?

I think the big snag is, Larry Brown would never want to bring in a defensive black hole like Kleiza.

I've never been completely sold on Felton

He forces it on offense a lot, not unlike many of our own guys, and isn’t a top notch playmaker. What I want is a solid, pure point guard who can learn from Chauncey.

Size is needed

You can see it when Nene or Kenyon get in foul trouble. Against tough, physical bigs, Andersen & Balkman just can’t hold their own. Wait til the WCF and you will see how much we need another capable big. they should sign Rasheed Wallace for 2 years. he knows Chauncey, he has a tough attitude, he knows how to win and he would fit nicely in the rotation.

STIFF LIST (as of 1/30 by Jeff Morton)

1. THE ORLANDO MAGIC
After starting the season so well with the Dwight Howard trade drama (10-3) - the Magic have fallen apart (2-5 since) with embarrassing losses to the Celtics (twice), Hornets, and Pacers. Trade Dwight already!

2. CHAUNCEY BILLUPS' FLOP VS. NUGGETS
In the waning seconds of Sunday's game against the Clippers, Chauncey pulled off an acting performance so good it deserved an Academy Award. If he was still a Nugget we would love it, but he's not. STIFF!

3. JIMMER FREDETTE
Dude, if you are going to take the game-winning shot, at least draw some iron: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mNO1goJOruQ

4. GEORGE KARL'S 4TH QUARTER AGAINST THE CLIPPERS
Getting out coached by Vinny Del Negro should be a nice wake-up call. Going away from Gallo. Leaving Al Harrington in. Using Rudy Fernandez at point guard. And going ultra small contributed to the Nuggets loss.

5. JEFF MORTON
For saying that the Nuggets would skimp on payroll and go cheap like the Avalanche. Clearly I was wrong and deserve to be on this Stiff List. I can only hope that the gods of basketball forgive me.
