Nets 114 - Nuggets 70

Nuggets post season low point total in loss to Nets

Let's look at the score again ... 114-70. Wow. A 44-point loss to the Nets (24-27) on Saturday Feb. 7 in New Jersey. I guess everyone knows there are games where nothing goes right and you get blown out, but this one was ugly.

I was unable to watch the game live so I was planning on catching the replay at 9:00 p.m. mountain time. I made sure to notify all my Nugget fan buddies that I would not be watching the game live and asked them to not text me anything during the game. So about 7:00 p.m. mountain I get a text from a random friend telling me the Nuggets are not doing so hot. I was blindsided. I'd made it an hour and a half and suddenly had a text from an unlikely source telling me the team wasn't doing well!

I felt like Jerry Seinfeld in the episode where he taped the Met game ... answered the phone asking people not to tell him about the game and then Kramer storms into the apartment and spoils the ending for Jerry.

A few minutes later I got a call from my boy Rory and I knew something was up with the game. So I decided to check the score before I listened to his voicemail. The game was still in the 3rd Quarter and I looked at the scoreboard ... I rubbed my eyes and looked at it again. It read 89-54. What the heck happened?!

I picked up my phone and listened to my voicemail searching for answers. Rory basically told me, if I was a fan of the Nuggets then I should stay away from the game. He told me not to watch the horrifying performance ... so you know what ... I didn't watch it. Not much of it anyway. Just looking at the box score and seeing every player with a negative +/- rating tells the whole story. Seeing the disparity in free throws tells me about which team was more aggressive.

I think the best thing to do is just wash my hands of this game. Try to pretend it never happened and look forward to the game against the Miami Heat tomorrow night.

Views you can use:

  • Denver scored a season low 70-points against the Nets
  • Carmelo Anthony was the only player to record double-digit points (15) against the Nets
  • Billups, Melo, and Karl each were hit with technical fouls for arguing calls with the officials
  • The Nuggets dropped just their 2nd game to a sub .500 team

Well there will be days like this

Though I can’t be happy with a loss like this, sometimes it’s better just to get your butt kicked and move on than have a hard fought battle and lose in the final minutes. I am actually fine with it in that hopefully teams will keep thinking the Nuggets aren’t for real, I have heard the arguement that this wouldn’t happen to the Spurs, Lakers, Celtics and the like, but face it, it’s an 82 game season and a team is bound to come out flat some nights. I am not ready to jump off the band-wagon yet.

Not by any means

I agree with you. No reason to panic at all.
I’m thinking that perhaps the players might have partied a bit being back East where no doubt KMart has friends, Melo is from and JR is from as well. Who knows. Fun theory though.

Well Nate, you know you’re getting up there when people start spamming your site. Congrats! hah

In other news, this was a horrible game. Prior to this one I thought to myself, “The Nets? Eh, shouldn’t be that hard.” Man, they kicked the crap out of us. Melo’s 15 were a team high, which is just utterly depressing in terms of both his capabilities and the rest of the team.

Don't forget that Dahntay Jones

Is also from there. I think they probably had an all out raging party in Manhattan…

Speaking of Dahntay, here is a funny little clip of him and George Karl discussing the UNC/Duke rivalry:

crime stopper

I was hoping to see the “crime stopper” get some playing time the other night – ok – it wasn’t the game we were expecting… but in the closing minutes… where was the “crime stopper”??? And didn’t you want to watch just to see the three technicals on Denver – ridiculous!
Waiting to hear your pre-game comments on tonight’s match up…

STIFF LIST (as of 4/26 by Andrew Feinstein)

1. METTA WORLD PEACE

Metta resorted back to Ron Ron last Sunday by clubbing James Hardenwith an "inadvertent celebratory elbow", landing him a 7-game suspension. Apparently, changing his name didn't prevent NBA commissioner David Stern from overlooking Metta's past behavior problems.

2. CHARLOTTE BOBCATS

The 'Cats are on the verge of securing the worst winning percentage in NBA history. Given that the guy who runs the team - Michael Jordan - had previously drafted Kwame Brown and Adam Morrison, should this really be a shock?

3. OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER
The team that was supposedly built to overcome the lockout-shortened season managed to lose 7 of its last 14 games, ceding the Western Conference's 1-seed to the Spurs in the process. Their reward might be a first round matchup with defending champion Dallas.

4. BILLY HUNTER AND DEREK FISHER
With report after report coming out about NBPA union head Hunter's shady, nepotistic dealings and questions arising about Fisher's own role in dealing with NBA owners behind Hunter's back during the lockout, this off-the-court scandal could prove to be more exciting than the playoffs themselves!

5. STEVE NASH AND THE PHOENIX SUNS
The Suns are on this list for squandering the last few great seasons from Nash. Nash is on this list for his stupidly stubborn loyalty to a franchise as awful as the Suns.
