Nene Much?

I'm sure I'm not the only one who has noticed this, but it seems like not much has been said about the recent play of Nene.  He has been playing out of his mind in the last few games.  Even in the terrible loss to Minnesota, Nene seemed like the only guy who wanted to play defense.  Last night he was all over the place playing aggressive defense, dishing the ball, and taking it to the rim.  Ahhh, what a refreshing site!  Anyways, just thought I would point that out.

I don't know of another guy in the league

who has the bulk to defend the Tim Duncans and Shaqs of the NBA and is quick and skilled enough to handle the ball a little and start the break, hustle and come up with big steals, get in position to take charges, and make the right pass – sometimes with guard-like style and flare.

I think having him at the 5 brings the same kind change to the game that Shawn Marion brought to the suns while in his prime playing the 4.

Agreed

Nene is SO underrated, mostly just because he doesn’t average that many points. I think if Nene just averaged 3 or 4 more points a game, to put his average up to about 17 or 18, he would be a sure thing to make the All-Star team. But he should anyways.

yup

all star is too much about stats, always has been. At least for players on teams that don’t get quite as much national exposure.

But Nene is having a better season than David West had when he was (unjustly) an All-Star, I think 2 years back.

eh

To me this is how Nene should have been playing for the last 6 years. Hopefully it keeps up and we don’t see the weak Nene creep back

couldn't agree more

It’s about time he plays hard with consistency. I would still like to see more dunks and fewer finger rolls. He is one our highest paid players and the Nugs need his production to compete on the elite level. He’s got the skills, but often takes on the ‘kicked puppy’ persona and goes soft.

to be fair

He is second in the league in dunks right now, to Dwight Howard. And he has a sizable lead on #3 (Josh Smith).

Stats

I use these right now:

Nice find on the dunks stat, mudertron. I love watching Nene play. I’d love to see him become more aggressive on scoring and a little more on rebounds as well, but the Nuggets are playing extremely well now as it is. Like most folks here seem to feel, I’d love to see another big man but the play that we get from the guys that we have is as good as anything in many years.

STIFF LIST (as of 2/7 by Andrew Feinstein)

1. THE NUGGETS AT HOME
How is it possible that a Nuggets team with this much talent can be 7-5 at home?! Things have gotten so bad that fans are clamoring for J.R. Smith to return.

2. CARMELO ANTHONY
Kobe Bryant plays through any and all ailments. Melo uses any and ailments as an excuse not to play.

3. KEVIN LOVE
Just when the T'Wolves are looking better, Love stomps on Luis Scola and lands himself a two-game suspension.

4. CHARLOTTE BOBCATS
The 'Cats have lost 11 straight and are now 3-21 ... in the Eastern Conference! This is what happens when you let an underwear salesman with a Hitler mustache run your team.

5. MIKE BROWN
Dr. Bunsen Honeydew (Google it!) got himself a one-game suspension for making contact with a referee.
