Early thoughts on the 2010 NBA Draft

Well, it's true that the idea of the NBA draft has crossed my mind.  It's very early indeed, and the Nuggets should be playing into June so I'm aware that we have other things to look forward to.  However, I am bored and so I went over to nbadraft.net to take a look at some early mock drafts.  Aside from the fact that the LWolves, Grizzlies and Thunder have a combined 12 of the 60 picks (1/5) I noticed that this is the year the Nuggets can swap picks with the Clips.  That's all well and good.  I'm looking at some of the names that the site has projected to go in the second round and I was amazed to find my boy Lance "Born Ready" Stephenson in the second round, right around where the Nuggies are drafting.  I fully expect him to get into the first round.  If not though, I prithee that the Nuggets take him.  He'd be a great chip and could make JR expendable if need be.

I also have found 2 other guys of extreme interest for this team:

Luke Harangody = Linas Kleiza 2.0

and the guy that perhaps most intrigues me that could be there: Renardo Sidney. 6'10, 275 lbs.  That would certainly be some size.

Write respectfully of your SB Nation community and yourself.

Man I love Harangody (full on homo)

That dude is such a hard worker and has a definite future in the league. I hope we can draft him.

Yeah well according to nbadraft.net, he’ll be there. I’d rather they go after Sidney though, but I know that dude’s attitude and work ethic has a lot of questions. He could be Eddy Curry 2.0 for all i know.

Oh Sidneys that dude from Texas huh?

The dude that droped a ton of weight. Yeah I was watching some SC highlights of him last night and he looked like a beast. Either way, we have to go with a PF/C.

dejuan blair 2010

mac koshwal of depaul could be the player every team will regret not taking. he is a junior and could return for his senior season. he has a foot injury and should be ready to go for the start of the big east season. this player can become a combination of dwight howard and tim duncan if he stays in school for 4 years.

Do you think we can trade our second rounder for Pekovic unless we already traded it away?

Unless you’re the Spurs, picks in the 50s are useless. Pekovic is a big doing pretty good in Europe/Russia

who has the rights to him? Minnesota?

by NugNugz on Dec 18, 2009 7:11 AM MST reply actions

Yah

They talk about him a good deal at Canis Hoopus. I just was thinking they were confusing him with Pavlovic or the late Petrovic before I looked up Pekovic and found that he’s doing pretty good. Not Linas Kleiza good, but still good.

Anybody else thinks that Omri Casspi reminds them of a skinnier version of Kleiza? However, I think Omri will turn out to be a bit better, and he seems enthusiastic about playing in the NBA, unlike Kleiza.

I just found out that Renardo Sidney hasn’t even played a game this year due to ineligibility – i don’t know if it’s academic or if the NCAA is investigating him. So I kinda mucked up most of this post by talking about him. still he is like 6’11 270

bruising power forward

What we need to get in the draft next year is someone who can eventually replace Kenyon.

I’m not big on draft prospects but someone along the lines of Gani Lawal, Damian James, DeMarcus Cousins, Dion Thompson or Yancy Gates for Cinci. ANyone know if getting one of those guys would be realistic without any first round picks?

by runningdonut on Dec 19, 2009 1:14 AM MST reply actions

according to nbadraft.net cousins at this point is mid first round

Lawal and James are late first round

Thompson would be available

and gates isn’t even expected to be drafted (which is curious because last week they had him late first round)

The STIFF LIST (as of 7/26 by Nate)

STIFF #1: COLORADO ROCKIES
The Rox have lost eight of their last 10, including six in a row. During the six-game losing streak Colorado has been outscored 33-13 ... and they might soon be the reason by buddy Rory has a massive heart-attack. But there are still 63 games to go and an upcoming eight-game homestand is hopefully just what the team, and Rory, needs to turn things around.

STIFF #2: MINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES/DAVID KAHN
Replacing a 24 year-old point guard with a 29 year-old point guard is just a sound NBA move ... uh? Kahn handed Ramon Sessions a 4-year $16 million contract last offseason and just gave the same deal to Luke Ridnour this offseason. In order to make room for Ridnour, Kahn shipped Sessions and young big man Ryan Hollins off to the Cleveland Cavaliers for Delonte West (who is still facing weapons-possession charges). Maybe Ricky Rubio will get to the T-Wolves before Ridnour's contract expires, but don't count on it.

STIFF #3: TRACY MCGRADY
McGrady has been shopping his services this offseason and after getting nibbles from the Lakers, Clippers, and most recently the Bulls ... T-Mac is still without an employer. The 31 year-old guard, with a rich injury history, apparently is not ready to accept a reduced role. Will McGrady's stubborness land him on a lottery team where he'll try to prove he can still be "the man" or will he accept being a role player and wind up in Chicago gunning for that elusive title?

STIFF #4: DANNY AINGE
The Celtics did lose defensive ace Tony Allen to the Memphis Grizzlies, but re-signing Marquis Daniels to a one-year $2.5 million deal is a little crazy. Daniels should be thanking agent Mark Bartelstein ... maybe the rapper can sing his agent a song. (Daniels is in the yellow shirt in the video)

STIFF #5: NUGGETS SLEEPING ON SIZE
The Nuggets decided to bring back Anthony Carter on a one-year $1.3 million deal. Do the Nuggets really need a third point guard heading into training camp over another big body? Check out some names still on the free-agent market: Louis Amundson (yes he'll require more money), Fabricio Oberto, Kwame Brown, Anthony Tolliver, DJ Mbenga, Nathan Jawai, Josh Boone, Kyrylo Fesenko, and Joey Graham. Denver still has the bi-annual exception to spend ... so maybe there is still hope of grabbing somebody.
