Lakers Fans: Permanent Addition to the Stiffs List?

Why not?

Can anyone tell me a reason why not?

Just give a new reason each week why fans of every other team in the league also hate Lakers fans. We can ask around at other blogs and see what terrible Lakers fan stories some other people have.

Or, I at least propose there be a "Lakers Fan of the Week" column, where we find the douchebaggiest (excuse my language-I find it the only word that sums it up) thing that a Lakers fan does that week. Its not like they're hard to spot. They wear those yellow jerseys around everywhere that stick out like a pimp hat in a preschool.

Should Lakers Fans be a permanent addition to the "Stiffs List"?

No, but there should be a "Lakers Fan of the Week" column (perhaps I'll write one)

No - there are plenty of other trainwrecks going on in the NBA right now, and they are fun to watch.

i dont see the point of this

yes im a laker fan
and yeah i know some out there are complete jackasses
i wasnt happy to see some of them trash the city after the lakers won the championship like a bunch of mindless animals.
but dont categorize the entire fanbase with a select group of idiots because every fanbase is gonna have its share of these types of fans.
the lakers get a worse reputation since they have one of the largest fanbases in the country, meaning more idiots compared to other fanbases. but that shouldnt mean we are all like this.

Leave Chad Billingsley alone!!!

People trash the city in just about every city when a championship is won. It has less to do with being mindless animals as much as being drunk mindless animals. The advertising around sports is heavy on alcohol, acting like your choice of beer is a critical life decision. I think the bill for damages in those “celebrations” should be paid by the beer companies that advertise during those sports events, but nobody ever wants to hold the big corporations accountable.

You’re probably right about the LA fanbase and its proportions. There’s a lot of people on a lot of blogs covering a lot of subjects who seem compelled to show the world what idiots they are.

No

“I think the bill for damages in those ‘celebrations’ should be paid by the beer companies that advertise during those sports events, but nobody ever wants to hold the big corporations accountable.”

Wrong. Nobody ever wants to hold themselves responsible for their actions. Holding the alcohol companies accountable for damages after victory celebrations is like making Ford pay for accidents that their cars are involved in.

You are a very thoughtful poster but you are dead wrong on this one.

Practice doesn't make perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect.

Who holds a drunk accountable for their actions? Many times courts don’t even do that (yes and many times they do). It was some time ago that they passed legislation holding bar owners/bar tenders accountable for knowingly letting drunks drive. Why should they be responsible for the actions of their customers?
Holding alcohol companies accountable is more like holding Ford responsible when they manufacture cars with faulty brakes that cause accidents. Alcohol is essentially a defective product that has done tremendous damage to our society, yet it holds a special place legally due to the repercussions of the Volstead act.

Advertising works. The beer companies wouldn’t spend so much time and money on it if it didn’t. People would not drink so much without advertising. I know there are plenty of people who drink without participating in riots, but do you really think those riots would take place if those people hadn’t been drinking? How many times do you suppose the police are called to a residential address where alcohol isn’t involved? What is the point of drinking if not to alter your experience, perceptions and judgement? (note the sales figures for non-alcoholic beer) I’m not really advocating letting the drunks off scott free either, they should be punished, but have you ever seen those guys really learn from what the courts do to them? Of course there are reformed alcoholocs, but was it really the courts that made them change? I don’t think so.

I appreciate the compliment about being a thoughtful poster, but I don’t think I’m dead wrong, just taking a view that many would find extreme. Why should beer companies be able to advertise a product that when used as the manufacturer intended will alter the brains of those that consume it? We don’t allow that for marijuana, yet it is probably less harmful than alcohol. Alcohol places a huge burden on our society in costs that can’t necessarily be calculated in dollars. Billing them for the damages caused in riots after sporting events that they advertised in should be just the start. Even if they paid those damages you can bet that they would still be profitable, even if they had to rasie their prices by a few cents per serving.

I have a solution to the problem but it would never fly because it would cost the companies so much money in lost revenue. It would make living in our country a lot safer and cheaper though. I’d tell you what it is, but I haven’t got it all written up yet and without a comprehensive plan it wouldn’t be worth explaining as it would be prematurely rejected.

What irony. A (and i quote) “douchebaggiest” nuggets fan making a thread to find other “douchebaggiest” Laker fans.

STIFF LIST (as of 1/30 by Jeff Morton)

1. THE ORLANDO MAGIC
After starting the season so well with the Dwight Howard trade drama (10-3) - the Magic have fallen apart (2-5 since) with embarrassing losses to the Celtics (twice), Hornets, and Pacers. Trade Dwight already!

2. CHAUNCEY BILLUPS' FLOP VS. NUGGETS
In the waning seconds of Sunday's game against the Clippers, Chauncey pulled off an acting performance so good it deserved an Academy Award. If he was still a Nugget we would love it, but he's not. STIFF!

3. JIMMER FREDETTE
Dude, if you are going to take the game-winning shot, at least draw some iron: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mNO1goJOruQ

4. GEORGE KARL'S 4TH QUARTER AGAINST THE CLIPPERS
Getting out coached by Vinny Del Negro should be a nice wake-up call. Going away from Gallo. Leaving Al Harrington in. Using Rudy Fernandez at point guard. And going ultra small contributed to the Nuggets loss.

5. JEFF MORTON
For saying that the Nuggets would skimp on payroll and go cheap like the Avalanche. Clearly I was wrong and deserve to be on this Stiff List. I can only hope that the gods of basketball forgive me.
