The Stiff List's David Kahn

Well, since Kahn made the stiff list I thought I would share some info (not that it's top secret) with all of you about the man.  for those that don't know, I'm currently stuck in treacherous Minneapolis and over the summer, I was oddly selected to participate in a Timberwolves discussion group (I was rewarded with 3rd row seats to a game (not of my choice)).  basically we were just asked to discuss a series of questions and such that I won't bore you with.  I will however tell you about the unwavering optimism in Kahn at the time (this was after the draft and before Rubio decided not to come).  They really believed he was this genius that was going to right the ship.  They liked his "transparency"

I kind of kept quiet the whole time as it wasn't really my place to say much.  I'm not, nor have ever been a Twolves fan (I do like their original jerseys though).  I try to watch them while I'm here and support them but I assume once I leave, I won't like them anymore.  and one of the reason is is that there's no connection to or continuity with this team.  I feel like any player on the TWolves could get traded any day now.  I'm still baffled over drafting two pgs that are natural pgs with no jump shots all with the idea that they'll play together.  I'm baffled as to why they just didn't draft rubio or flynn and Stephen Curry - it would make more sense to me if they wanted to play a short person at shooting guard that he at least be able to shoot.  The funny thing about the draft is they drafted 4 pgs and the Nuggets got the best one of them.  Lawson is outplaying Flynn in a lot less minutes.  They then proceeded to sign Ramon Sessions to 4 years meaning that IF Rubio (big if) ever does come over, somebody's going to have to get traded.  The only other 2 guys on their team of value at this point (though I do like Corey Brewer and am pulling for him) are Al Jefferson and Kevin Love - they technically play the same position!  So now your 4 best players play 2 positions.  It doesn't make any sense to me!  I know Khan isn't responsible for that (McHale is) but I'm not so sure that that guy has a master plan.   Thank you for reading.

Al Jefferson is on my fantasy team

And he’s doing fine statistically. He just has NO help whatsoever.

Not much news here...

I’m actually more interested in the Q&A they decided would be a good idea with the fans, and how you, not even a lifer, somehow got on the list. Cool that you did I guess.

ESPN the Mag was actually just talking about Sessions being a brilliant signing (because he was cheap) and that yes, Rubio will essentially be a trade chip down the road. I still didn’t see where Flynn and the other dude (Mr. Irrelevant PG I guess is how I’ll know him now, how bad is that?) fit in.

I think Sessions is a solid player and a great signing, just not for the TWolves. Sessions is young and Flynn is young and they both play the same position. You didn’t see the bulls draft Derrick Rose and then go out and get, oh i don’t know, Chris Paul for example. It just doesn’t make sense. If I use the 6th pick on a pg and i’m a team as bad as the TWolves, I’m playing him 40 minutes a game so he can get all the experience he needs in the first year so that he can be better during the next few seasons. Now that they have Sessions, each plays like 25 minutes a game.

i just think what they’re doing is eerily similar to what the Griz did with Conley, Lowry, Crittendon and now none of the them are very consistent.

As a Buckeye fan

It sucks how Conley has been abused down there by moronic coaching and player personnel moves. What a joke of an operation. Good comparison. PS, I know Conley’s handle on PS3 and he virtually lives on Call of Duty. I mean LIVES every waking moment that there’s not a game or practice. Might need to spend a little more time on his Jay and a little less on the paddles. Although to be fair, it could very well be a relative or roomate using his machine… idk.

That’s just my opinion. obviously i’m not a gm. and i also apologize for talking about the Twolves on a nuggies board but what can i say, i kinda needed a break from all the potential big-man acquisitions.

You never really know till it's all said and done

My opinion on the whole scenario is that Khan took what he believed to be the best talent each time he drafted. The Lawson pick was brilliant, but as it turns out he screwed himself because he traded away the best PG of the 3 (but who really knows, that draft pick could turn into a top 3 pick one day). Sometimes I do this in fantasy drafts, then work my way around with trades, the problem with this strategy is if you don’t trade right away you end up feeling the effects of an unbalanced roster. But, like I said, you have to wait and see how it all works out. If he ends up trading away Rubio for a star SG they could potentially have a nice starting lineup of Love, Brewer (who’s looking really good these days), Jefferson, Flynn and the star SG. Thats a pretty dangerous lineup, then you throw in a great coach (Rambis could pan out) and you have yourself a franchise. So, I;; give him some time, but right now he’s definatly not looking too good.

The STIFF LIST (as of 7/26 by Nate)

STIFF #1: COLORADO ROCKIES
The Rox have lost eight of their last 10, including six in a row. During the six-game losing streak Colorado has been outscored 33-13 ... and they might soon be the reason by buddy Rory has a massive heart-attack. But there are still 63 games to go and an upcoming eight-game homestand is hopefully just what the team, and Rory, needs to turn things around.

STIFF #2: MINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES/DAVID KAHN
Replacing a 24 year-old point guard with a 29 year-old point guard is just a sound NBA move ... uh? Kahn handed Ramon Sessions a 4-year $16 million contract last offseason and just gave the same deal to Luke Ridnour this offseason. In order to make room for Ridnour, Kahn shipped Sessions and young big man Ryan Hollins off to the Cleveland Cavaliers for Delonte West (who is still facing weapons-possession charges). Maybe Ricky Rubio will get to the T-Wolves before Ridnour's contract expires, but don't count on it.

STIFF #3: TRACY MCGRADY
McGrady has been shopping his services this offseason and after getting nibbles from the Lakers, Clippers, and most recently the Bulls ... T-Mac is still without an employer. The 31 year-old guard, with a rich injury history, apparently is not ready to accept a reduced role. Will McGrady's stubborness land him on a lottery team where he'll try to prove he can still be "the man" or will he accept being a role player and wind up in Chicago gunning for that elusive title?

STIFF #4: DANNY AINGE
The Celtics did lose defensive ace Tony Allen to the Memphis Grizzlies, but re-signing Marquis Daniels to a one-year $2.5 million deal is a little crazy. Daniels should be thanking agent Mark Bartelstein ... maybe the rapper can sing his agent a song. (Daniels is in the yellow shirt in the video)

STIFF #5: NUGGETS SLEEPING ON SIZE
The Nuggets decided to bring back Anthony Carter on a one-year $1.3 million deal. Do the Nuggets really need a third point guard heading into training camp over another big body? Check out some names still on the free-agent market: Louis Amundson (yes he'll require more money), Fabricio Oberto, Kwame Brown, Anthony Tolliver, DJ Mbenga, Nathan Jawai, Josh Boone, Kyrylo Fesenko, and Joey Graham. Denver still has the bi-annual exception to spend ... so maybe there is still hope of grabbing somebody.
