Put that L straight on Melo's shoulders
I don't know what everyone else here thinks but I am getting really tired of Melo's selfishness losing the Nugs games. Granted, Bird was missed big time in this one but there is no excuse for Melo's play in the fourth. He had 1 point in the fourth through the Nugs run to get back in the game. He then proceeded to take a fall away jumper and luckily got a foul called so two free throws. Next time down the court Melo goes one on four and gets his shot sent back to the three point line. Two plays later he decides to jump and pass at the same time and he throws the ball straight to a Clipper. About three or four series after that Melo forgets to jump for a rebound when the Nugs were down only five and rolling towards a shot at the win.
It seems to me that Melo has played this way in all of the Nugs losses. It makes me wonder if he has hoes in every city that like to party. Pass the god damned ball please Melo!
George has been coaching his ass off ever since AC went down and I am for the first time hoping the Nugs resign him. Dude got a technical foul trying to defend his team against the awful refereeing tonight (thanks George!).
I think the Nugs have the pieces for the title this year if Chauncey can get Melo under control on these road games. Melo needs to learn that he needs to rely on his teammates a lot more on the road. He can't do it all as there has never been a man in the NBA that could. Hopefully this is the last time I feel the need to make a post blasting on Melo. Normally I would not care about a bad game or quarter but this same thing has happened in each of the Nugs losses and I'm getting really tired of it.
Write respectfully of your SB Nation community and yourself.

No one else had it going
Melo got us a nice lead in the 1st quarter, the way that we blew the game after that was pathetic. Blame Melo if you want for some big turnovers in the fourth quarter but everyone else played soft and lazy for long stretches of game. We lost by 7 and CB scored 5 points. Lawson would have gone for 20+ with more minutes. It’s just crazy man, even with Melo playing “bad” how do we still not beat the Clippers?

Malik Allen
With the least surprising 18 +/ ever (IN SEVEN MINUTES). The guy was fucking horrible every second he was on the court. I was literally focusing just on him on multiple possessions during the game and the guy is a black hole of suck out there. I hope to god he never plays in an important game all season.
Melo pretty much kept the Nuggets in the game, although it would be nice to cut down a couple of those turnovers. Melo was an efficient scorer and passer tonight and it is unfair to place the blame on him. The games you should be angry at Melo for are the ones where his efficiency sucks and he shoots 5-20 and doesn’t get to the line much.
The blame of this game goes squarely on the defense in the 2nd and 3rd quarters. They were giving up dunks and wide open 3 pointers. Double teaming Kaman way too much. They also got posterized by Sebastian Telfair on multiple possessions. Really embarrassing and lackadaisical D.

To reiterate
Malik Allen’s Line:
M.Allen 07:12 0-1 -18 1 (Reb) 1 (Ast) 1 (Foul) 0 2 (Turnovers) 0 (Blocks) 0 (Points)

Agreed on Allen
Really disapointed in Melo’s game though. Dude put up 37 but it wasn’t in the flow of the offense. When he got the ball the offense stopped because he didn’t pass when guys cut in the first half.
I think the Nugs would have continued their run in fourth if Melo would have passed the ball. Look at Melo’s point totals in the Nugs losses…. Big points and no passing the ball. He hoggs all the shots and the Nugs will lose every time.

Melo had 37......
Chanucey had 5 and JR went 1-7 from 3….Melo was ballin’ man, you gotta give him some credit

Guess you think so
I definitely don’t. I also think the reason CB is looking so bad is the fact that Melo isn’t running the offense in the Nugs losses. CB has never really played with a guy that requires as many shots and touches as Melo in his career. CB looked great last year because Melo layed off the shoot first mentality (think about it, it is 100% true). It may come back to the media saying Melo was looking like an MVP to start the year… The Nugs have won this year when everyone gets involved and Melo is getting his buckets off swings from one side of the floor to the other, fast breaks, and cuts to the bucket.

Whoa!
What happened with the nuggets!!! From where I was watching I thought carMelo was actually trying everything he could to help his team win. Although I disagree about George Karl getting a technical. I never think punishing your team by giving the other team a freethrow! What if they wouldve lost by one?!?
Mr Gasus: your article is pretty out there. 37 points is huge! Althouh I guess I see what you’re saying about ball-hogging and stuff. How come the nuggets seem to beat the teams they shouldn’t and not the ones they should? I guess there’s always next game though.
I do have to say that I love watching your team play! Carmelo is amazing! And Neene had a great game.

Over the years of playing and watching basketball I’ve seen the same thing over and over. The best scorer on a team that is down, thinks “We have got to score on this possesion. Our best chance for scoring is if I’m the one who does it.” Then that guy proceeds to shoot. His teammates frequently have the same idea and try to get him the ball. You name any great scorer and I bet they’ve been in the same situation and had the same thoughts. I bet it happened to Melo last night. It will happen again. The problem is that it gets into a spiral and it gets worse and worse and feeds on itself. Generally once it gets going there’s no stopping it and most of the time the team never comes back in that game. The defense figures it out and they know what to defend. Very few teams figure out how to stop this from happening. I don’t think I’ve ever heard a team talk about it, it’s as if it works on a subconscious level and talking about it is taboo.

omg dude
stop hating on melo, its really fucking annoying, like i dont get how in the world you cud blame this game on him … seriously every except for him nene and ty played like complete shit… complete 100% crap… you can not blame melo everytime they gave him the ball they pretty much said, i dont want to run a play, just score for me and watched him… if they actually moved around we could have won by 20 plus points… melo shot over 50% so you cant say he took bad shots, he went to the free throw line a lot (refs missed a lot of calls tho)…
really like stop fucking complaining about melo… hes playing great

I'm in L.A. - Not a Lakers Fan - and I can only dream of having a player as good
as Melo on the Clippers. It looked to me like he got fouled at least a dozen times without any calls being made. But back to the point.
Thanks alot guys for playing down to our team and assuring we’re stuck with Dunleavy for the rest of the year and probably next. You don’t know real misery until Dunleavy is your coach.

ridiculous
who was going to score the ball? did you see what happened when Karl took Melo out for like 8 minutes in the 2nd quarter? The Nuggets got dominated by DeAndre Jordan and Sebas Telfair and we couldn’t even score the damn basketball. Melo’s turnover in the 4th was Nene’s fault because he stopped running. If you don’t want Melo to score 37 pts, and JR isn’t making shots and Chauncey isn’t making shots, perhaps you propose we put in Petro and see what he can do? Melo’s always been a willing passer, but the offense needs to stop standing around like fans and move.

Gasus, you should be on the stiff list for posting such a dumb comment.

If you are gonna blame melo
it shouldn’t be for his offense. melo is a scorer. the ball will be in his hands. if you watched his first couple years in the league and you are complaining about his offensive performance last night, you don’t know much about basketball. Anytime Melo is being aggressive on the post or driving the lane to draw fouls, I’ll take it. Yes he was dominating the basketball, but he was not forcing bad shots like you make it sound.
To become the superstar that he should be he needs to rebound better especially and play D like a man. The whole team needs to improve defense and rebounding
Offensively, Billups has not looked good this whole season. This is a continuation of the Lakers WCF series as well. Irrespective of him missing shots, he is forcing shots, accumulating uncharacteristic turnovers and basically not controlling the pace of our offense like he did last year. CB knew when to push the ball, how to stop opponent scoring runs, when to penetrate and create fouls when we fell into jumpshot mode. Melo’s job is to score and score from anywhere. CB’s job is to know when and how to get points from the rest of the guys. He needs to play better and more importantly smarter. Frankly I’m glad lawson has been getting more minutes. Chauncey needs to step up in a big way as he is the vet presence which prevents us from losing these games we should be winning.

God, reread the post guys
4th quarter Melo blew the run. His fault for blowing the 4th quarter run and therefore the game.
by Gasus on Nov 21, 2009 1:57 PM MST reply actions 0 recs
That’s some poor logic. Just because he made 1 or 2 bad plays in the fourth does not make him responsible for the entire loss. The team would not have been in that position were it not for his stellar play in the earlier quarters.
by snafu on Nov 21, 2009 6:47 PM MST up reply actions 0 recs
Gasus stop being a fairweather
Every loss you jump on Melo’s back, but in the wins you have nothing to say about him. Would you have rather we sit Melo in the fourth and watch the Clips reel off another 17-0 run like they did in the second? No thanks. I put this one on an overall lack of intensity, poor shooting from everyone not named Melo/Nene and No bird. One player does not lose your team the game, especially when its your best player and he puts up 37 points. Oh you say it was the fourth quarter run that Melo messes up and loses us the game, well with out his brilliant first quarter we would have been blown out by half time.
by Zachm219 on Nov 21, 2009 6:55 PM MST reply actions 0 recs
Melo has a bad 4th quarter
but kept the team in it with his scoring. His supporting cast should take a lot of the blame for getting schooled on the defensive end.

Maybe I missed something
But when we were closing the game to single digits it wasn’t Melo throwing up horrific shots it was JR. He shot a 360 layup if no one else recalls. I mean the guy was 0 for before that shot and was pulling up shooting 3s in the first five seconds of a possession. Im not blaming the loss on JR but you cannot blame melo for shooting if no one else on the team is hitting and you can’t question his shot selection without looking at JR also. The team as a whole played horrible uninspired basketball and came out as if the NBA already put this game down as a win. You can’t blame Melo for this loss when everyone (besides maybe Nene) had horrible games.
