Golden Nuggets (afternoon links)...
Getting off to a 3-0 start has people talking Nuggets basketball...
For his outstanding performance thus far, Carmelo Anthony has been named as the Western Conference Player of the Week.
The Denver Post's Anthony Cotton has an interesting story on what's become of former Nugget Allen Iverson's career.
The Post's Dave Krieger gets the Melo-for-MVP bandwagon going (way too early in my opinion).
Hoopsworld's (and Nuggets insider) Travis Heath notes about Melo: "there's something different about the guy this season."
And ESPN.com's Marc Stein is ranking the Nuggets fourth in his weekly Power Rankings.

Yes its waaay too premature for MVP talks I think.
But to hear Melo and MVP in the same sentence and it is positive, does my heart good. Melo has always been my favorite player but he’s never been considered for MVP or on a LBJ, Dwade, Kobe level. I’m loving the attention Carmelo is getting.
Whats my name? GottaLoveMelo!

We've been ranked #1 before, I think
A few years back when the Nuggets were really rolling during the spring they grabbed the number one spot for at least a week or two.

A.I. = Hall of Fame. Period.
People can talk about A.I.‘s decline and the fact that he has become a “jouneyman” but he is a Hall-of-Famer that got a raw deal in Philly and is trying to continue doing what he always has done: play and play and play… If you think of A.I. and don’t picture a grainy, slow motion cross-over of MJ at the top of the key, you’re not remembering the real Allen Iverson…

Possibly ...
You are probably right about the Hall of Fame. He has carried some personal baggage with him that makes people think of him in a manner that places some tarnish on his basketball skills. I am getting to be more impressed with Carmelo’s skills and interaction as a teammate as time goes on. A.I.’s place as a teammate seemed to decline the further along he went.

I think I'm most impressed
by Melo’s attitude and his newfound approach on court. Like it was pointed out earlier, he’s letting the offense come to him and when be gets blocked or called for a bad foul he shows more restraint than I’ve ever seen. I think that will be a serious difference this season and hopefully it’s not too unreasonable to think we won’t have to worry about Melo with 15 technicals going into the post-season.

Pretty damn impressive. I’m getting ready to do a straight up of Wade for Melo in my fantasy league. I think it’s worth it. He’s possessed.

Melo the great
The Post’s Dave Krieger gets the Melo-for-MVP bandwagon going (way too early in my opinion).
While I’m very impressed with his attitude and dominant play on the court, 3.6% of the season isn’t enough to go on. Let’s see him continue close to this pace for 25 games….then we’ll start talking MVP.

Sleeper
Before the season began I predicted the Nuggets to be the sleeper in the West…now only three games in and you are a “sleeper” no more! It is early, but (like my Celtics were overlooked in the East in preseason) you were overlooked in the West. Go Nuggets!

Not really a sleeper
Not sure that you could call a team that played as strong as they did last year a “sleeper”. Perhaps you could say that if they had failed to qualify for the play-offs … rejoice that they are doing good but I don’t think they were a “sleeper” that has surprised the league … besides it is only a handful of games.

Sleeper?
(Mentioning “sleeper” and Celtics in the same breath)…I meant that the “media” had overlooked both teams. The powers in the East were supposed to be Orlando and Cleveland. In the West it was supposed to be Portland and the Lakers. It is a long season, and of course I know it is too early to tell the outcome. I think the Celtics were overlooked for “being too old” and the Nuggets were overlooked for whatever reason…“being too inexperienced”? Anyway, I am first a Celtics fan, but I do love the Nuggets, too…and I especially love to be right, lol. So… I hope we meet you in the finals! Cheers.

Melo MVP talk too early
But….
It’s better than too late. I’m happy to see Melo on the up and hope that he can continue this with an NBA championship this year. (Sorry LeBron!)

Can't we at least play one twentieth of the season
Four games (or actually 3 at the time of the post) … less than 1/20 of the season … where were the Rockies at that point in their season?
