The Stiff List
I just wanted to comment on something about the current stiffs - the New York Knickerbockers. The idea of New York tanking the season to get the first pick, if I understand correctly, is quite null and void because that pick goes to the Utah Jazz to complete a Tom "Addicted to Mountain Dew" Gugliotta from way back, way back in the day. Consequently, we should be hoping that the Knicks start winning to some degree or the Jazz are going to end up with a top 5 pick making our division, already filled with the up-and-coming Thunder and the already challenging Blazers more tough. Also, should the Jazz continue to suck and find themselves in the lottery - that'd be two lottery picks in what is expected to be a strong draft. yikes

Good catch...
I forgot that the Knicks don’t even have their own pick this year and worse yet, the Jazz do! Stiff List is fixed…

rick pitino
should be on the stiff list. he is from new york AND coached the knicks. plus he had sex in a restaurant. he should have been on the stiff list 6 months ago. i am beginning to think you are a louisville fan. pitino gives a whole new meaning to the term go big red.

Knicks should still be on the Stiff list...
They are absolutely tanking this season but not because they want a good pick in the draft! They are fighting to get LaBron and/or D-Wade after this season and the only way to do that is to load their team with one-year, crappy contracts. Why else would they be considering A.I. right now? Ticket sales for sure but you can just tell that the Knicks are scrimmaging every game because this season is, in effect, over for them. The amount of money that the Knicks will be able to spend next year is scary! They saw what Boston did a few years back and they are going to duplicate that effort next year. Don’t be shocked if you see A.I. in N.Y. and don’t even think they’ll do it to win…

Eek.
That would suck big-time if the Jazz end up with this pick… harsh…
What went down in this trade and when? Details? The Guggliawhateva name rings a bell, but I can’t remember the whole thing. This is bad news all around!

There was a time whe Gugliatta was pretty good player, but he played past that time.

2 lotto picks?
I can’t find anything specific but I don’t think that a team is allowed to have two top-5 picks regardless of trade. If the Jazz’s ping pong ball drops perfectly, I think the best that they could do would be a #1 and a #6 and both those players could and should expect big-time money. Regardless, it is an absolute guarantee that the Knicks will be sitting on that stage when the lotto picks are decided…

What about Durant and Green a few years back? Picks 2 & 5

You're right!!??!!
I suppose that means we should absolutely BANK on Utah getting 2 of the first 5 picks in the draft. Ouch. Boo. Fuck.

Well
How much better can they get? Correct me if I’m wrong, but aren’t the best players in this draft (around the 3-10 picks) all forwards? I can see if the Jazz improve with that pick, but not by much. Really, all they’d be doing is replacing Boozer with a rookie PF (Boozer’ll be a FA this season). While I can envision a couple of scenarios in which they’ll improve, i’m not too worried.
Only thing I’d be realistically worried about is if they draft a PF, and sign-and-trade Boozer somewhere for a player of equal caliber (because they’re not just going to re-sign Boozer and have 3 starting-caliber PFs), otherwise, they really stay the same.

I respectfully disagree with this comment. I think they could get a lot better, perhaps not next year (learning curve) but certainly a future with a still young Deron Williams, a young Milsap and 2 young lottery picks (if the Jazz miss the playoffs) would be a bright one. I don’t know if they’d consider drafting John Wall and playing him and williams together (at the 1 and 2) but that lineup along with Cole Aldrich and throw in AK47 could be quite imposing. I’m not saying the Nuggets can’t handle it, I just hope that they don’t have to.
The Jazz are a decent team right now, but they’re extremely injury-proned and that hinders them. Throwing in young non-injury proned bodies could make a big difference.

Just wanted to say, first off, no need to worry about offending me haha, we’re all mature here, disagree with me all you want. :P
Anyway, my point was, if they’re going to get better, it likely won’t be through the draft. One of the big stories this past offseason/season was the log-jam called ’Utah’s PF rotation’. Like I said, around 7 of the top 10 prospects in the draft are PFs, and I doubt they make it worse, meaning two things i think.
Then again, it also depends on where their pick ends up.
If they get a top 2 pick:
1. Basically the only option is that they take either John Wall or Willie Warren (assuming the college world doesn’t get shaken up and the current prospect rankings are similar).
2. However, they can also trade the pick with some players to upgrade at the necessary positions. (The theory being that they’d prefer someone with NBA experience as opposed to rookies, regardless of how good they are).
If they drop below the 2nd pick:
1. The next 7 picks or so are likely all PFs, so either they take one and deal with the outcome, or trade the pick. Too many teams that could use a starting big to use the pick to back up Millsap.
Anyone know what their plans are with Boozer? If it wasn’t for the chemistry issues, I’d think they’d re-sign him.

boozer is history
jazz overpaid and he had too many injuries. utah has a 7 foot ruski at center on the bench. okafor and milsap have new contracts. ak47 is the real question for utah to resign. once he got a max contract he became a prima donna. he has always been a fan favorite but is he willing to do what he does for way less money.

clarification
I should’ve done my homework a bit more – it looks like the Jazz pick this year goes to Philly for the Korver trade so they would only have one lottery pick if they don’t make the playoffs (the knicks’) i apologize

Dan Hawkins
wish he was back on the stiff list and a permanent fixture there until he is gone. He’ll probably make a strong case for himself depending on how severe tomorrow’s massacre is (Hope I’m a little wrong here). I just can’t stand the guy

I'm with you on Hawkins. Hope he's gone soon.
Not sure who could replace him, but it’d be nice to get a coach that would actually USE the talent he brings in instead of walk-ons that have good practices.

I like the Rams as well.
Would like to see all the programs in the state thrive, especially one that has a easy road to the BCS Championship if they got the team together.
(Although TCU is making a nice case for the Mountain West!)
