Is it acceptable?

I was born and live in California.  I have been a fan of the Denver Broncos since I was about 7 or 8.  I watched the Anaheim Ducks and Angels since 1998.  I have suffered with my two Anaheim teams and saw them win championship each.  The first NFL game I watched on t.v. was the beating the Broncos took in the 1993 playoffs against the Raiders.  I lucked into being blessed with the last years of Elway's greatness and see him and the Broncos win two superbowls.  Now I've watched basketball from time to time and I've always cheered against the Lakers.  For some odd reason I have hated the "local" teams in the area I live in.  I can't seem to find any other team to follow and the California suck because I hate northern California (Warriors) and I'm not going to waste my time with the Clippers because I don't hate myself.  Would I be a bandwagoneer to start watching the Nuggets and be a Nuggets fan?

of course you would but it's ok

as long as you will not be a fair weather fan. a true test of any fan is when a team plays bad. like the chicago cubs. 101 years and counting without winning a world series.

pick up a calf every day pretty soon you will be picking up a cow

I've have been through

the torture of being a “disney” sports fan. I have been an Angels fan and proudly display my love for them even when losing. I just haven’t been a basketball fan since I was a kid and stopped playing basketball. Ive searched every team and none interest me. When I was searching this off season for a team I was going to jump into being a Nuggets fan but I realized the Nuggets went to the WCF because I was too into the NHL playoffs. When I found out I was hesitant to become a Nuggets fan because no fan wants to be a bandwagoneer. Plus Denver is an awesome city and I loved when I went there to see family there.

Yea, but

You would, but i respect a bandwaggon fan who can admit it much more than a bandwaggon fan that claims he has liked the team for years. Join the Nugget show! It’s fun. I think the Nuggets have the most entertaining team in the league with JR, Melo, Bird, Chauncey, Nene and now the Law-son.

Nuggets fan for two decades

The more the merrier, anyone who hates the Lakers is alright by me

by Zachm219 on Nov 17, 2009 4:52 AM MST reply actions

Yeah

Just make sure you don’t say anything mean about Kobe Bryant or the rest of the Lakers because on this site, we have mad props for how amazing The Lakers dynasty is. And even win we beat the Lakers make sure you find as many excuses you can for why The Lakers didn’t win. And just know, Kobe Bryant is the single greatest Nugget killer and on this site we make sure to give him the proper praise and respect because of the stand-up clean, modest, and respectful Man that he is…

by SternfluffsKobe on Nov 17, 2009 11:03 AM MST via mobile up reply actions

Once again, I agree

Of all the sacred cows you’d think you should avoid on this website, you’d never guess that one of them is Kobe Bryant!?! Virtually every poster here has completely (and unfairly) trashed Anthony Carter going so far as to suggest that GK and AC have some sort of relationship that adversely affects GK’s objectivity about AC. People have called out GK’s weight, called for Melo to be traded, falsely stated that JR went to prison for drunk driving and on and on but Kobe hater here posts a tongue-n-cheek rant about Kobe and his character and gets fucking blasted… Makes no sense at all.

I’m with you SternFluffsKobe. Kobe is a douche and he has the league office rooting for him night in and night out. It’s sickening.

Welcome aboard Captain Bandwaggon! There’s room for you and anyone else who digs our Nuggets, just don’t disparage Kobe or the LakeShow – you won’t hear the end of it…

Just don't say stuff that is untrue

You guys post how Kobe is horrible or how he fakes being injured or sick and it gets people to thinking that you are being irrational in your comments. Some people realize that Kobe is a great basketball player and you guys go around saying he sucks. It doesn’t make sense so some readers of this blog will tell you that it doesn’t make sense.

We all hate the Lakers but we have the right to tell you when you make statements that are dumb.

by Gasus on Nov 17, 2009 11:39 AM MST up reply actions

hey Gasus

please point out the time or part where i said Kobe Bryant wasnt a great basketball player. would love to see it. that post about him having the flu was about the fact that he doesnt need to play up the dramatics becasue he’s already a great player….

didnt mean to hurt your feelings, though. Im truly sorry man. I keep forgetting that this is a feel good site where only positive opinions are accepted and anything negative is viewed as an “attack” on other posters. unless its about AC….

F*ck Kobe Bryant

by SternfluffsKobe on Nov 17, 2009 3:30 PM MST up reply actions

Okay Gasus

Read the posts. No need for fact checking. It is all opinion and no one ever said that Kobe sucks or fakes injuries. Did he drop 41 with “the flu?” Probably not. Probably not influenza. Maybe he had the squirts or the sniffles or a nasty cough but he probably didn’t have “the flu.” Whatever. It was a funny post that was basically saying that Kobe is a douche bag and I tend to agree…

May I please have permission to despise Kobe Bryant while acknowledging that he is a very good player? Thank you. Seriously though. Why defend the guy so much? Me hating Kobe doesn’t affect your Nuggets fandom does it? Why don’t you defend Melo or GK or AC or someone associated with the Nuggets? Why Kobe? Uh oh. Are you Kobe? AKA “Gasus?” Well Kobe/Gasus, I think you are a fine basketball player and maybe even the second best of all time but I also think that you are a douche bag. SternFluffsKobe probably doesn’t have to explain his feelings about you does he?

Practice doesn't make perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect.

by Big Mickey D on Nov 17, 2009 3:34 PM MST up reply actions

Anyone who thinks Kobe isn't the #1 Nugget killer

is a bandwagoner and doesn’t know any recent Nuggets history. He has always killed us, always. I have a huge amount of respect for him in the same way I do for Peyton Manning or Ladanian Tomlinson, when a player kills your team time and time again you can’t help but begrudgingly respect him

by Zachm219 on Nov 17, 2009 3:49 PM MST up reply actions

Well said

I couldn’t agree more. It just pisses me off that as a fan of any sport we can’t hate or make fun of the greats without some people feeling the need to wax philosophic on their understanding of how someone is the “greatest player of all time” or “dynasty” or “scheme” etc….
I actually looked up the word fan vs fanatic…one is a derivative of the other: extreme and unreasonable zeal. So if your not that, we’ll just say youre a nuggets observer.
Interestingly enough, whether you rationally go about commenting about our nuggets, OR you decide that every team we play on a given night is an enemy it has absolutely NO affect on the teams performance. So why not get ridiculously passionate as opposed to rationally accepting….?

by SternfluffsKobe on Nov 18, 2009 12:58 AM MST via mobile up reply actions

Eat it

Carmelo Anthony leads the league in scoring! Kobe can suck it!! And that’s the end of that tune. (girlfriend of sternfluffskobe). I don’t even like basketball, but this is a no brainer!!

by SternfluffsKobe on Nov 18, 2009 2:00 AM MST via mobile up reply actions

Actually....Melo is number 2....behind Kobe...

You can despise Kobe and acknowlegde he’s great. Thats all anybody really asks. Problem is…from your last “flu” post….that didnt really come off. I remember being told I was feeding into the media and ESPN for saying dude was a “monster”, which he is. If anybody in the league is a monster…its him…not acknowlegding that makes it seem as if you dont respect Kobe’s talents whether you despise him or not. Thats all.

I cant stand LeBron James. Hate the dude. I think he’s and arrogant POS that cant really shoot. But when you look at the numbers he put up last year (shit, for his career)…you gotta sit back and say “Damn. Dude is fucking nice tho.”

by GottaLoveMelo on Nov 18, 2009 6:44 AM MST up reply actions

I just re-read

EVERYTHING I wrote about Kobe…I’m so sorry for not using the term “monster” when describing him. I thought “NUGGET KILLER” was pretty much the same thing. Please re-read it as well before you “remember being told” anything.
My thing about buying into the Media? You are 100% right. JR smith gets yoked for accidentally killing his best friend and he is considered a thug (yes, I get it, he tweeted gang-style), Carmelo Anthony gets into a fight in NY and is labeled a thug (even the pacers/pistons fight WITH FANS guys aren’t called those things), Kenyon Martin…well he’s just a thug, right? I mean look at him!! All those tattoos…!!! But Kobe Bryant SETTLES A RAPE CASE OUT OF COURT and no one EVER, and I mean EVER talks about it after? His reputation is actually BETTER than it has ever been? That is what I’m talking about when I say “playing into the media”.
Wow, now that I think about it, you chose the perfect word to describe him: MONSTER. My
bad.
By the way, you seem to have harsher feelings about LeBron James than Kobe…come on man. LeBron James? Even I won’t waste my time on that guy. What is your fucking deal with the Kobe thing. And the fucking flu post was supposed to be a tounge-in-cheek response to what I saw as a fucking pathetic showing by a team that WON A CHAMPIONSHIP barely beating a team they should have crushed. Get a sense of humor.

by SternfluffsKobe on Nov 18, 2009 8:07 AM MST via mobile up reply actions

Is it libelous

if I refer to Kobe as a rapist on this site? Do I have to refer to him as an ‘alleged’ rapist to be PC…?

by Artimus Mangilord on Nov 18, 2009 10:54 AM MST up reply actions

Libel/Defamation

Andrew would tell you otherwise but he’d be wrong. Because libel/defamation is a tort and not a crime, there has to be malice and damage. As well, there would need to be a defendant and a claimant so, unless Kobe Bryant himself decides to sue Artimus Mangilord’s true identity after demonstrating damage from comments and malicious intent to cause said damages, you are probably fine. Politically Correct is a completely different story…

They argue like children. Not the points they make (pretty childish for sure) but more so the way they argue. Just keep coming after dude’s throats but we still show restraint because we think if we tell them what we really think of them that Nate or Andrew will either warn us or kick us off the site. I’m really close now to telling these two how I feel about them.

by Gasus on Nov 19, 2009 10:56 PM MST up reply actions

Okay

So you can talk shit about a guy but I can’t defend him? Old Mikey there just said that he doesn’t think Kobe faked having the flu in one sentence then in the next he said he probably didn’t have the flu. Give me a fucking break, you guys are irrational as fuck.

by Gasus on Nov 18, 2009 3:10 PM MST up reply actions

Relax

I wouldn’t classify the flu as an injury and my point was that he didn’t have influenza anyway. With H1N1 in the news and influenza-A killing kids and old people by the dozens, the need to be accurate about an illness (NOT AN INJURY) is a reasonable demand. He probably just didn’t feel 100% and to sternfluffskobe’s point, why leak it or use it as a method to hype his game? He dropped 41. That’s great. He’s a great player. No reason to amend it with “playing through” the flu just to look even greater. That’s Kobe’s biggest issue – he needs to stop trying to be the greatest player ever and just play. Let history sort out who’s who among the world’s greatest of all time.

Why are you so sensitive about Kobe on a Nuggets fansite?

We all get that you really like Kobe.

Hopefully he wasn’t faking it!!!!

Denver Stiffs.com: Defending the sovereignty of Nuggets Nation.

by Nate Timmons on Nov 18, 2009 4:00 PM MST up reply actions

He had to be

Migraines are so debilitating that people can’t even get out of bed. Just had to be faking! If I couldn’t do it then how could Melo? LOL!

by Gasus on Nov 18, 2009 4:17 PM MST up reply actions

"Earlier in the day"

Exactly. Melo wasn’t trying to sell us on the fact that he played DURING a migraine… The point being, however, is that this sort of self-absorbed “Hey look at me! Look at me! I am great even when I’m sick” sort of back patting is a little off putting coming from superstars – to sum up the entire argument – I am absolutey, hypocritically and perfectly okay with giving Melo a pass for doing it because HE IS ON MY TEAM AND THIS IS MY TEAM’S FANSITE!!!??? Kobe Bryant doesn’t get a fucking pass okay?

Come on Nate! I get that this site is pretty PG-13 and that we watch what we say but REALLY? I’m not allowed to blast Kobe? I’m not allowed to make irrational points (that started out trying to be light and funny by the way) about superstars on other teams? That is so weird to me. Have you seen other fansites? They are BRUTAL about our “Thuggets” and “lead gang member” Carmelo Anthony. BRUTAL!! Forgive me. I thought it was safe to launch a couple haymakers at Kobe because this is a Nuggets fansite. I certainly wouldn’t do it on a neutral site or, Heaven forbid, the Lakers’ fansite!

Practice doesn't make perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect.

by Big Mickey D on Nov 18, 2009 5:43 PM MST up reply actions

Just need to chill out dude

Keep blasting irrational things all over and then what good is the site? Is it where people go and scream retarded shit and then watch the game? Then after the game scream more retarded shit? Who has fun with that? Intelligent coversation will give Nate and Andrew much more readership and I am pretty sure that when people say off the wall shit they are okay with someone telling them it is off the wall shit.

by Gasus on Nov 18, 2009 10:59 PM MST up reply actions

I know Kobe is a good player ... maybe will be considered by some to be one of the greatest ...

but I don’t like the guy. Don’t like how he plays the game. Don’t like his jersey number. Didn’t like that he changed numbers so people had to buy more, probably because he didn’t want to be known at #24 … the number after M.J.’s 23.

I don’t like the Lakers. I don’t like that they can outspend Denver b/c they have the revenue to do so. Don’t like their jerseys. Don’t like that they came out with a white jersey to ruin their tradition.

Blast away at Kobe all you want. But realize some people will disagree.

Love reading debates between fans of opposing teams and debates between Nuggets fans.

Last year during the WCFs there was some pretty good debate on my old SB Nation site Pickaxe and Roll between Laker and Nugget fans. There was some definite good stuff and some just pure trash talk. I loved the shit. Wish Denver would have won to shut them up … but that was last year. This is this year. 1-0 Denver so far.

Good one dude

by Gasus on Nov 18, 2009 4:16 PM MST up reply actions

Answer the question

WHY ARE YOU SO SENSITIVE ABOUT KOBE ON A NUGGETS FANSITE? Seriously? Every post where someone is blasting Kobe you jump to his defense. Why? This is a Nuggets fansite where people are going to write irrational, unsubstantiated things about superstars that have gotten in the Nuggets way of winning playoff games. This is the place where we are supposed to be able to do that right? Are we not allowed? Do we have to be totally objective and nice? I don’t get it. You keep posting defense of the guy’s game and no one has really said that he’s not great or not a Nugget Killer. So why so sensitive about the attacks on his personality and self-serving demeanor? The guy is an asshole. Jordan is and was also an asshole. Wilt Chamberlain? Asshole. Larry Bird? Asshole (just ask Dr. J!) All great players. All assholes. Why does that bother you Gasus? Do you need people to think that Kobe is a great player AND a great person? He isn’t. Relax okay?

Practice doesn't make perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect.

No, just rational

by Gasus on Nov 18, 2009 11:02 PM MST up reply actions

One of Andrew and Nate's rules as I understand it

Is you cannot attack the character of players. You can’t say things like “Kobe is a rapist,” or “David Stern blows Kobe.”

If this were allowed the whole site could turn into a hate site where any time a guy makes a mistake all the immature fans come here and write about how the player got his first unwanted ss *cking 30 minutes before the game. Get the point yet?

by Gasus on Nov 18, 2009 11:12 PM MST up reply actions

Can you actually

Prove that Kobe ISN’T a rapist? And as far as my screenname goes…come on man. Really? That offends you? How do you know that my full screen name isn’t “SternfluffsKobe’slaundry”?
Once again, I’ll be the bigger person here and apologize for making you so mad! If you spent half the amount of passion you have against me and that mikey d dude on ribbing some of our opponents then maybe there wouldn’t be this confusion about your manic defense of a “nugget killer”….

Hey there fellas!

New to the site and as quiet observer I think its really cool that there are Lakers and Nuggets fans having spirited debates. Its kind of adds to the whole “New Rivalry”! But Gasus, i tend to agree with you more as you are more like me, and as i describe it we are “hybrid” fans. which, to make a long story short is someone who is evolved enough (including not using a name like sternfluffskobe? thats just rude) to just appreciate the game and have love for everybody and not be nailed down or identified by one team. I actually think it makes watching the NBA more fun when you can root for someone or some team on any given night solely based on the two teams playing!!
And Big Mikey D- You raise great points, and seem to be very passionate about your nuggets. its clear though that you might be preaching to a congregation that might be a different denomination! sorry for the church analogy. its cool to see all that fire though. again, watching fans of two different teams having what seems to be for the most part an “above the belt” spirited debate about arguably the best player in the game is pretty cool.
I started really paying attention to the nuggets during the playoffs last year and love their tough guy attitudes…plus Melo is on my fantasy teaM!!! LOL

Welcome Aboard!

As one of the co-proprietors of this site, let me sincerely welcome you to Nuggets Nation. We need all the fans we can get. It’s a little known fact, but the Nuggets have one of the smallest non-local fan bases of all NBA teams. This is because – prior to Carmelo Anthony’s arrival – our games were hardly ever televised nationally and even in our NBA Golden Era from 1976 through 1989, other than David Thompson no player caught on nationally among the fans.

And anyone who hates the Lakers is welcomed here with open arms. That should go without saying…

by My3Cents on Nov 17, 2009 8:58 AM MST reply actions

I wouldn’t call you a bandwagoner… I think to be considered a true bandwagoner you would have to have dumped your favorite team (you never had one to begin with, you just smartly avoided rooting for a California team :) ) and jumped on with a successful one. If we had won the championship last year, then it would definitely be a blatant case of the dreaded bandwagoning. But, it seems like you just happen to like our team (who can blame you?) and want to jump aboard, so I say, “Welcome!”

If you are having trouble finding a feed to watch the Nugs games, check in here on game days and click on the game thread and you should find posters helpfully posting links of a live stream for the game. I’m stuck in TX as a fan, so have to resort to this for 80% of the games!

The STIFF LIST (as of 8/30 by Andrew)

STIFF #1: J.R. SMITH
Remember when I wrote that J.R.'s "nine lives may be up"? Well, that was last January. With Denver police looking closely at J.R. allegedly attacking former 14er Damien Lolar at a recent Pepsi Center shoot-around, it's clear that J.R. will never mature and it's time to move him.

STIFF #2: LEON ROSE AND WORLDWIDE WES
After commandeering LeBron's departure from Cleveland, Rose and Wes are allegedly working to move Melo out of Denver. Let's hope the Nuggets do what's best for Denver and not these two franchise-destroyers.

STIFF #3: RIC BUCHER
The man who once guaranteed that Kobe Bryant had played his last game in a Lakers uniform has been gravy-training on other reporters' Melo-related stories all summer long. Who does Bucher think he is, a sports blogger?

STIFF #4: MARCUS JORDAN
Like father, like son. Last week, His Airness's 19-year-old son tweeted about dropping $50k at the Aria casino in Las Vegas prompting an investigation.

STIFF #5: INDIANA PACERS
Brandon Rush has been suspended five games for violating the NBA's drug policy and 2010 draftee Lance Stephenson was recently arrested on assault charges. Larry Bird sure is doing a great job re-shaping the Pacers' already shoddy image.
